Hi everyone! We just got back from our week tent-camping! All-in-all we had a wonderful time and it was very hard to pack everything up and come home!
There were five of us (DH and myself, and another couple with their 12-year-old son). We were in two separate tents, and we had a screen tent to set up over the picnic table.
We requested the 1500 loop and the site they gave us was 1513. When we got there, we couldn't believe how tiny it was! It must be one of the littlest sites they have! There was no way we could fit 2 tents (not to mention the screen tent) on that little square! LOL! So, we called the front desk and they moved us to the 2000 loop, in 2053. It was a much bigger site and everything fit just fine. The only thing I didn't like about this site was that it bordered the main road right behind us, so there was constant noise from buses, horse trailers, and employees' cars going by. But, it was ok.
Now the bad part.....
For the first three nights, we had HORRIBLE, rude, noisy, awful neighbors!! That's the first time in the 18 years we've been camping at FW that this has happened! They were yelling and swearing constantly, never talked below scream level, smoked marijuana, used a machete to cut down the trees and branches between our sites (at 1am!!), shone their flashlights right against our tent over and over into the early morning hours, etc, etc. They had 2 cars, and 2 golf carts that were constantly coming and going at all hours. The first night we called the front desk and complained about the noise around 11pm. Security came and told them to quiet down, but it didn't help. They were up yelling and shouting until 2am that night. Then at 5am, one of the guys left in his car, yelling and shouting the whole way out.
The next day, they were having races with their cars and golf carts down the street -- the WRONG WAY! Squealing their tires and yelling! We went down to the front desk and talked to the manager about them. She said that they couldn't do anything about it, unless they caught them in the act themselves.
When we got back to the campsite, we peeked at their parking pass in one of the cars and saw that they were due to check out the following morning. So, that night, we just gritted our teeth and told ourselves it was the last night and we could bear it. But, the next day, we saw that they extended their stay another night! Aaargh! We called the front desk again, and they sent a security officer out. The people had gone to the parks, so he snooped around their campsite a little bit, then told us he "found the evidence he needed" and was going back to the manager. Well, needless to say, nothing happened. We had one more nightmarish night with yelling, shining flashlights, cutting down trees, smelling marijuana, etc, etc. We were actually scared to get out of our tent and go down to use the phone, because they were know we were the ones who complained! I didn't want a high, machete-weilding guy after us!
Anyway, they finally left on the third day, and everything was peaceful again.
I taped a lime-green Mickey on our post, but nobody found us. And, we went driving around on the golf cart through all the other loops, but never saw anyone else. I guess we were the only DIS people there this week!
The weather was fantastic -- a little cold at night, but we had lots of blankets! The comfort station was kept very clean the whole week! We went to the campfire program Friday night and saw Snowball Express. We set up our camp chairs behind the benches. There was a school group there of 69 kids -- around 10 years old or so. They were very loud, but they finally left about 1/2 way through the movie.
We rented a golf cart for the whole week, and used it a lot!! It was so nice to have our own transportation--especially in the mornings on the way to the bus stop and at night when we were tired after getting off the boat.
We ate at the Trail's End twice -- once for lunch and once for breakfast. It was great both times! The 69-member school group showed up unannounced for breakfast when we were there! The servers were very annoyed about it, because they had no notice. Boy--were they running!! LOL
We took a few walks, saw lots of deer and armadillos and a couple of alligators! We miss the peacocks.
Any questions?
