I just returned from 7 days at AKL. Here are some of my observations.
AKL is a great resort. The restaurants are great from the Mara to Jiko. We really loved The Mara. Every resort should have a quick service location (QSL) like the Mara. I bought the refillable mug and it definately was worth it.

The pool at the AKL is large. It is bigger than the WL pool. I felt very relaxed at the AKL pool. The slide is fun too. The pool bar was great. It is large and the staff were extremely friendly.

We had a pool view room. Our room was on the 4th floor 4026. The view was pretty good. Our view was obstructed a little by a tree. Not a big deal. Mousekeeping did a great job everyday. When we returned our room was clean and ready for the evening. By the way, I did not hear any flushing toilets at all despite some previous posters complaining of that noise.

I can't comment on transportation as we had a rental car and did not use the bus service.

I would say that most of the staff was friendly. The check-in/check-out staff was probably the place where I noticed some personality problems, but not that bad. Everyone else was great!

Crowds at the resort and the parks seemed very reasonable. We did not have to wait very long on most rides. I think the longest we waited for a ride was 30 minutes at ToT.

Now the best part. I am going back with my DW and DD in 3 weeks for a stay at the Carribean Beach Resort. We are leaving on Saturday Nov. 13th. I have training to attend in Orlando starting Tuesday. I figure since the company is flipping the bill for the hotel we might as well take advantage and make it a family trip. I am definately getting use of my AP this year! I expect it to be busy as that weekend is the Festival of the Masters, Super Soap Weekend, the last weekend of the F&W Festival, and Chubby Checker will be performing at the Eat to the Beat Concerts. Plus Veteran's Day is the Thursday prior to that weekend. Look Out!!!

If any of you have questions please feel free to ask.

ADP,
I found that during low attendance times, like you did, that using your own transportwation was the way to go. You can park close in and no waiting for busses. Glad you had a good time and I'm looking forward to returning to AK to try it again and spend more time to see what we missed in January.

Glad you enjoyed AKL. This is our favorite resort. Like you, we have never heard any flushing toilets.

We also love the AKL! In fact I just booked a one night stay for us before we switch over to BWV for the week. The AKL is just so relaxing to us and we also love their restaurants! :)

It sounds like you had a pretty good time at AKL, welcome back and thanks for the trip report!

We are also loking at booking a pool view room and requesting the 4th floor. I see you room was on the Giraffe trail. Did you hear any noises from buses? How about pool noise? My mom is coming with us, she's in her 80's and tend to retire early.

Thanks for the report. We booked AKL pool view for this coming April. I chose pool view because it looked most convienent to the pool & restaurants - Did you find this to be the case?

Hi,

Glad you had a great time!!!!! Can't wait to go back someday!

Guys2 -
I did not hear any noise from the buses. I would say that the pool can be a bit noisy at night before 10:00PM. If you keep your door shut that leads to your deck you should be fine. That really takes away the noise from the pool. I would also suggest shutting the curtains at night before going to bed. The sun hit our room every morning which woke us up one day. It's not a big deal if you want to get up early. If you plan on sleeping-in defineately shut the curtains.

The restaurants are located pretty much in the middle of the resort. I would say that in the case you mention The Mara (quick server with refillable mugs) would be a bit closer with a pool view room depending on which side of the pool you were on. One tip that would help. Halfway down the halls is a single elevator. If you take that down to the 1st floor it will drop you off right near the pool area. This saved us a lot of time and less walking.

We are book there for the first week of Dec. Are there refrigerators in all the rooms now?

Hezreck -
There are not refrigerators in every room. I believe there are refrigerators in the Concierge rooms. If you want a refrigerator you can request one at the front desk for a fee of $10.00 per day.
