After buying into DVC (and adding on) before actually seeing our purchase, we finally made it home for the first time this past week (Jan 19-26). We stayed at a studio on the ground floor as we had no experiences to base a request on. We had an awesome time!!!!!!!!
The room was perfect for our needs and we didn't find it to be dark at all. We loved the fact that you could literally walk around the building to the lodge side and see all this hustle and bustle in the pool and on the grounds, and then walk around that same corner to the villas and feel complete peace and quiet. We were told that the villas were booked solid for atleast some of the time we were there and we NEVER heard so much as a peep from the people next to or above us (can't say that at very many hotels...including our previous Disney hotel of choice-the Poly).
The hidden springs pool was quiet, yet fun for the kids...and the bubbling springs were worth a few squeals everytime we pulled the kids across those on their bellies. And for those people who have questioned why this pool has been serviced so many times in its short life, I would venture a guess on the reason why. The huge trees surrounding that pool are forever dropping pine needles into the water. Enough of those in the filter and ``bubbling spring'' parts and I'm sure they can wreak havoc. I'm just glad they are staying on top of it.
As for transportation from the resort, we were thrilled. We never waited more than 10 minutes for a boat to the MK (and that was only once during the whole week). The buses to the other parks were usually right there as we were walking up or there within 5 minutes! The buses for the return trip were just as easy and convenient.
After reading several earlier posts, we were expecting a really long walk to get to the boat dock and therefore were pleasantly surprised to find that was not the case at all. We loved the surrey bike rental and the beach area. Several nights we popped popcorn in our microwave and then took it out to the lounge chairs on the beach to watch the electric pageant at night.
We walked through the DVC model there at WVL and thought the 1 bedroom was awesome too (though at this point, with two smaller kids, we would rather have more vacation time than a bigger place especially since we are only in the room at night).
Park attendance was every bit as good as the past two years at this same time (maybe even higher IMO). We loved the new spectromagic parade, Fantasmic which we had not done on previous cash paying trips because of cold weather, and the new Millionaire game...I even made it into the hot seat, but knew I was doomed at the $8000 mark the second I saw Shakespeare in the question.
Already planning ahead. Considering a 4-day trip in late september to celebrate DD's 4th birthday.
Our house gives 2-thumbs up (way up) to VWL!
