You will always find lighter traffic on I-95 if you leave early on a Sat. or Sun.

We usually drive down I95 on weekends. However, on our last five trips (2002-2003) we were on the road during the weekdays (Monday through Friday). We found the traffic to be less congested although we probably did see a few more trucks. We commented to each other that we would rather drive on the weekday than the weekend.

We stop in Santee, and the hotel we always stay is Country Inn and Suites. Reasonable and VERY, VERY clean.

Could you comment on any major construction going on during the route please? I am driving it next week.

Thanks so much.

There was construction around the beltway and also there seemed to be construction from Jacksonville to Orlando! It didn't really slow us down as there was nobody actually working on it, but it seemed to go on forever!

Thanks, would that be the D.C. beltway you mentioned about the construction or some other?

Thanks. I don't mind construction if it doesn't slow you down. That's terrific news! I am used to traffic here, so mere traffic won't upset me but I hate to be bogged down and halfway stopped, especially on a long trip where I'm trying to make time.

How far down in NJ did you start. I am going to do the drive from Westchester County about 30 minutes to GW Bridge. I was thinking of leaving 4am and going until about 7 pm. I didn't think I would make Georgia though. What do you think?

We start where the Atlantic City Expressway starts.

Denise can you tell me how the Holiday Inn Express was? We are planning a trip to WDW in August - we are hoping to leave at 4 am like you did (from Eastern Pa.) and drive all the way through (we have three drivers). On the way home, we are thinking of only going as far as Savannah the first day so that we won't be wasting our ticket that day and can go into the parks for a while. I am thinking of a suite at that Holiday Inn Express. Thanks in advance for any info.

DisKids2, you should have no problem meeting your deadline, provided you don't hit DC traffic in the morning! We left at 10:10AM from North Jersey and made it to Santee, SC by 11:00PM. That is with gas stops, 1 lunch stop(30 min.) and a dinner stop(1 hour). The Georgia border is only another 1- 1 1/2 hours farther. We were lucky, we hit no delays in DC. Just a tip: book a stopover ahead of time(especially Fri. and Sat.)

The H. I. Express was ok. Not great, just ok. I'm going to try someplace else next year. I just thought it could have been cleaner (so did my 8 year old who is very particular about cleanliness espcially in bathrooms). Don't get me wrong, it was gross, it just could have been better.
