Just Back (Dec 3-11). Refreshing for 7 & HS FP Drops

Right now we have 3 FP set up for the afternoon in Epcot, we're going to start the morning off in DHS. If we should happen to get lucky and see a SDD available while in DHS do we lose all 3 booked in Epcot?

Yes, once you have completed the FPs in EPCOT (meaning tapped into the last one), you can then book a FP in DHS.

And for what it's worth (I don't know the particulars of your planned day), you can pre-book 1 or 2 FPs in EPCOT, do those, and then book a DHS FP. You don't have to use or pre-book more than 1 FP in EPCOT to then be able to grab a DHS FP.

Yes, unfortunately you would have to drop all the EPCOT FPs for MDE to let you even look at FPs in DHS. But once you have completed the FPs in EPCOT (meaning tapped into the last one), you can then start looking for a FP in DHS.

They could look at HS FP's without dropping the Epcot FP's but as soon as they choose one it would drop the previously made FP's.

Thanks for pointing this out... Is this different on the web versus the app?

(I edited out that line re: looking at other parks)

Nope...you just go through to make FP's like you normally would. It will then give you the following warning and you just choose to keep the guests. It won't drop the first park FP's until you add a new one.

Thanks everyone, will have to see if it's worthwhile to give up 3 Epcot FP to pick up the 1 in DHS, and then have to try and get the Epcot ones back again afterward. :confused3

I think it's more complication then it's worth. If you want your FPs done as soon as possible then schedule 9, 10, 11. You can use 9 at it's earliest (although in most cases you're better off taking advantage of the low waits at that time). Then try moving up 10. If you can do it, great. If not fill in with other rides that aren't going to have a long wait at that time of the morning. As soon as you use it, try moving up 11. Try to get your headliners as early as possible since they are harder to move up. I suppose that if you have a headliner than you can't get at 9 or 10 but can get at 11 you could leave a gap but I'm not sure why that would help you over just scheduling the third ride at 10 from the get go.

Either I'm missing something here (perfectly possible) or this gap strategy is being suggested by people who don't know that once you use the FP the window is no more. If you use the first at 9:15, you don't have to wait until 10 to move up your next FP in line.

As much as possible I will make the hardest FP as the first FP because the others won't be as difficult to change. There is no point leaving a gap and I don't understand why anyone would recommend leaving an extra long gap between FP's. You would be creating a longer gap for the purpose of creating a shorter wait so it sounds backwards to me. Anything with refreshing will bank on finding availability but most rides can be found with some refreshing. Most only take a couple of minutes but the tough ones such as FOP, 7DMT, and SDD will likely take longer.
Totally agree with both of you. We book FPs the first 3 hours of park opening with the headliners in the first spot. Even if we RD we typically will only get one or 2 rides in before we start in on the FPs. On Christmas Day at AK we had done the whole park by the time people had gotten through the (5hour) FOP standby line.

It sounds like it's no longer happening. I'm there in 2 days, so I'll report back.
While I have in no way been looking at this for long, the last 3 days I have made a point to check from 9-10. I haven’t seen any drop for SDD. I haven’t checked during the afternoon. I did see each morning that there was a drop for AS and TSMM. How significant a drop I don’t know as I’m just checking for 2.

I was going to watch this morning and got distracted at the office (stupid work getting in the way of watching for FP's!!). I checked about 10 minutes later and was still able to find plenty of times for TSM and AS2 but even if there had have been any SDD they would have been long gone.

So, because I missed watching that, I'll throw this little gem out there.

I have definitely seen the drop for those two. I haven’t even looked at FOP availability, but there’s hope!

When you're not "working" and can closely observe the actual time the FOP drops, let us know, @JETSDAD !! LOL!!

I guess that could play a role but I kind of doubt it. Thanks for keeping an eye on the drops. It's annoying when work gets in the way of FPing - I agree fully.
:rolleyes1
I’ll try to remember to report back with a data point after our trip...I have an SE and husband has the latest and greatest (because he lets the toddler play with his phone and guess what happened to the old one? I feel like this was way too convenient of an excuse for replacing a phone...). I’m the primary Disney planner but he has the MDE app as well so I’ll have him try refreshing and see if he gets any better results than I do!

I own a real estate office and am in my office a lot during the day and can normally do what I want when there. Sometimes people won't leave me alone though. Come on folks I'm busy with some serious stuff here.

That would be an awesome data point. Thanks!

And yes, that sounds a little convenient. "Sorry hon, the baby was dying to play fortnight and the phone just skittered off the highchair. I guess I have to get a new one. You don't want the baby to go without fortnight, do you?" :joker:

It’s even BETTER. He’d probably me mad at me for sharing, but the kid tells everyone he meets so...he let him hold the phone to watch a video while sitting on the toilet!! And of course the obvious happened.

We were on vacation in the middle of nowhere so he had to wait a week to replace it, too, because no Apple store or Best Buy or anything. And now he has to live with the little voice that tells everyone “red phone is new. Black phone fell in the toilet.”

He had totally been eyeing new phones for several months before, though, so I’m pretty sure he was just annoyed the kid took so long to drop it.

Whoa, this somewhat goes against the FAQ addendum, second of the two FP+ guidelines pinned at the top.

According to that, once you tap in to the first FP turnstile of the first park you are at with one or more FP+ for that first park, you can make FP+ reservations at another second park, regardless of number of FP+ remaining at the first park.
