Just back, bitterly disappointed in Ohana's.

Yall need to learn to open your mouths more at the restaurant and less on a message board.

All it takes is telling the server you feel rushed..and they slow it down. If you feel it is too slow, ask them to bring out extras and they will do it.

The staff at Ohanas isnt mind readers. For every guest that thinks they are being rushed, there are 10 more thinking its too slow.

They deal with over 2000 guests a day, you arent a special snowflake.

Time after time I see complaints here, yet they never make a complaint when they are at the restaurant and it can be fixed....and if they do finally make a complaint, its after the meal has been served, there is nothing anyone can do to fix it, and it looks like people are just after a free meal.

Nope. sorry totally off. I'm in the restaurant business in NYC. No way, no how should some one have to tell a server 30 minutes inbetween courses is unacceptable. Thats freakin common sense and if you're servers have to be told that, get out of the business. You say they deal with 2000 guest and they can't figure it out.
Please don't make excuses for crappy service. Looking for a free meal is the dumbest thing I've heard. I made adr's for this meal, are you saying that when I made them I had no intentions of paying for the meal? Gimme a break.

MY job at a restaurant is not to train your servers, that's why god created managers. If 10 people are complaining about the speed, its managements job to tweek the system until they get it right. Whether you serve 2, 20 or 2,000 if you run a successful restaurant the goal is always zero complaints.

I'm glad you accept any thing but I do not pay for products that I do not like. EVER.

as for complaining, this is a review forum. I gave a review of my experience. What? you want people to lie about their experiences just so we can keep parading the "every thing disney does is perfect" line? How does that help anyone.

I want truthfully reviews, if a person has had a bad experience I want to know. I'm smart enough to be able to pick out the ones that I think are silly from the ones that have real merit.

Totally, totally agree with you on this point. Not sure why folks are so willing to accept mediocre food and/or service at Disney restaurants and pay such high prices for the privilege.

I’m guilty of not complaining when I receive poor service. Bad service has roots in poor management and when I’m on vacation, I don’t want to train the staff on how to treat customers. A customer that spends $200.00 on a meal that would normally cost $80.00 outside wdw is a “special snowflake”. Most businesses would not consider it a burden to serve over 2000 guests a day.

Hi! I couldn't AGREE WITH YOU MORE! Here is my review last month regarding Ohana:

************************
Just BACK - Some Observations

Hello My Fellow DISER's!

We just got back from a 7 day vacation at WDW. As always the place is clean, gorgeous and breathtaking! We love it there.

Now we did not go to the parks we went to various resorts to check out some concierage level rooms and we ate at various restaurants.

Here is what we observed in a nutshell:

Restaurants
BOMA- This place is the BEST Buffet in all of WDW! It is always consistant and ALWAYS good. The restaurant is beautiful the CM's are always nice there. Waiter was really good!

CAPE MAY - The atmosphere is really really nice. Very sunny and beachy, I love it! The food was okay. Standard clams, blah shrimp (no Old Bay seasoning, no seasoning at all as a matter of fact). The crab legs--They really were not great, you had to do a lot of picking, because the meat would not easily come out of the shell. I think they were over done. The chef was extremely nice, waiter was great the CMs were also extremely nice. The restaurant was very clean, very cheery and very nice atmosphere. The colors there just remind me of YES, the BEACH.

We went to Cape May about 9:45 p.m. and were finished by 10:30. Well this kid came in the buffet area (WITH NO SHIRT ON AND A BATHING SUIT) and asked the waitress if he could have a piece of chicken. The waitress said, "No, the Market Place is still open, you can go there". The kid asked 2 more times and 2 more times the waitress said no! I could not believe this kid had the audacity to do this!!! SHEESH!!!

OHANA- Okay, this used to be our favorite, but no more!! Seated at 8, waitress did not wait on us until 15 minutes later. Received the bread (no butter). Didn't get the salad until another 15 minutes. The salad had no dressing on it. Had to wait another 10 minutes for that. Then came the chicken wings, they are not the same chicken wings we had in the past. They were okay at best. Finally asked her for an iced tea twice and she did not bring it! UGH! Finally got the chicken which was very good. The steak WAS AWESOME. Very tender and very tasty. The waitress gave us dipping sauce with nothing to dip it in until I asked her for the wontons! She was horrible! Of course the dessert was good as ever.

KONA - I ordered the burger and it was very tasty, DH ordered the steak for $15.00 and he said it was just okay. These were lunch prices.

MITZNER's LOUNGE, Grand Floridian -- THis place is really nice, you can listen to the band while you sip on a cocktail. Nicely decorated, CM's are very nice.

We still think BOMA is the best

'Ohana's has really gone downhill over the years, in my opinion. The first time I was there (10 years ago) it was pretty good. The last time I was there (maybe 4 or 5 years ago) the service was so poor! It's off my list.

Good service is not some vague and personalized thing; there are concrete standards that don't require knowing one single thing about the guest sitting down at the table. Absolutely people should speak up if they are looking for some deviation from that standard but diners shouldn't have to instruct their servers on the basics (like not disappearing for extended periods of time, clearing empty plates when the next course is brought, etc.).

The food at Ohana's usually comes out way too fast like they are rushing to get you ouut of there and than you can barely eat anything because the table is full of dishes and getting a refill is next to impossible. Wont be going back. The bread at Ohana is also gross. It's like a cold plain loaf of bread. I never tasted pineapple and i've been there three times and it's always cold and dry. Kona's bread is to die for!

They don't get a pass, just because it's Disney. We are dining less, at the parks and resorts...too much of a crap shoot.
UNSUBSCRIBING.............this thread is becoming a Disney downer :sad2:

The thread title states, "bitterly disappointed", what did you expect?

Eliza - I saw your other thread and thought you were totally being flamed here. It seems to me like most people have also had poor experiences.

We ate at Ohana's on our vacation (about 2 weeks ago) and I felt like our food was way to spread out between items, I thought our waitress forgot about us!

We had a reservation and were probably seated within 20-30 minutes of our reservation time, but once we were seated and placed drink orders nothing happened for the longest time. Finally when some food did come out, it took a long time between items and we had to flag down our waitress to ask for the meats to be served as we were there for what seemed to be a really long time (a table near us that was seated right after us had already made it to dessert before we were served any meats). We flagged down our waitress a couple of times to mention the things we hadn't received yet but that didn't really speed her up, eventually we just stopped one of the guys with the skewers and mentioned we hadn't been served yet and after that it seems like things sped up.

The food was good and we don't mind waiting, we had a nice time chatting and people watching and being able to watch wishes from our table, but service did seem slower than normal for us that night. We've been to Ohana's more than once and I think it depends on your waitress, some are super fast and some seem to take their time more between "courses". Either way at least everything that was brought to us was hot and if we asked for anything extra it was always brought out.

We enjoyed our meal, but the experience can be different from day to day. Sorry you had a disappointing meal, but maybe you can give it ago on your next trip and maybe it will be better for you.

We're giving it one more try. We loved it for years. This past May it was TERRIBLE. I think part of the problem is the number of tables that the wait staff has. (At least that is my reason for why our server was soooo bad.) It seems like when they are charging $40 a person they could hire an waiter or so.
We were there well over an hour before we got any meat, and at that point we had to ask where it was. We never got the broccoli.... at all. I didn't realize it was missing until we were paying and my dd4 asked where it was. :confused3 We had to ask for the bill 4 times before it came out. The food wasn't as good as I remembered but I was so frustrated with the service that I might have taken it out on the food.

The bottom line is that any restaurant can have a bad night though. So we will try it again... but if it is the same this year... it won't be a repeat in the future.

We had a group of 8 that ate there in early August of this year and we all felt it was the best meal we had on our trip.
Seated promptly (6PM ADR)
Waitress took our drink order quickly and brought the bread
Apps were hot/warm
Noodles/broccoli was warm
Skewers were perfect. My DS ate shrimp for the first time.

Our servers did not rush us, they came by several times to refill drinks, etc. Gave us extra of everything. Very friendly.

I really enjoyed the food. Our table was right next to the grill area.

I feel bad that the OP and many others have had a bad experience. I will be trying it again I think.

Good luck to all!

We just happened to dine at Garden Grill tonight and it was everything we had hoped for 'Ohana last year. Food was brought out with proper timing; waiter even apologized when a reorder of meat took longer than he thought was acceptable (we were perfectly fine with the timing.) All the food was warm and delicious. The kids were wowed (and that's saying a lot for my picky, opinionated kids.)

I'm toying with cancelling 'Ohana tomorrow and heading for Kona.

This could be our family! We got a last-minute ressie at GG a few weeks ago and LOVED it. It's a much smaller restaurant and our server was attentive and served exactly what we asked for (even when teenaged kids wanted to try some of what DS5 was eating, she brought out plenty of the kids' items). Wonderful character interaction too.

Kona was another last-minute booking and we loved that too. The only "complaint" I have is how loud the lobby setting is, but DS loved people watching, so he was kept more occupied at Kona than at most meals. Great food and outstanding service.

sorry for your bad experience op. we just returned from disney & our last dinner adr was at ohana. this was our first time eating there & we were so happy w/ the food & service. our reservation was 5:10pm & we were seated right on time. we received so much attention from the 3 people that served us. our drinks were refilled often, and we were often offered/ given seconds & thirds on the meats. they were very friendly esp. cliff who gave my 5 & 7 yo's drink umbrellas when we were seated. the food was also amazing. all of the meats were tender & juicy. we didn't even use the dipping sauces with the meats b/c the food was just sooo good. we also enjoyed the brocc, noodles, potstickers, salad and dessert. i did not like the chicken wings, they were too sweet. the wings were a disappointment b/c ordinarily i love wings but not the sweet kind. my dh loved the food & said it was the best disney restaurant he had eaten at and my kids we very happy-- they loved the coconut races.

if you have not tried ohana's yet, i think that you should give it a try. i am so glad that we did try this restaurant and we most definitely will go again. maybe one of the reasons our experience was so good was that our dinner was so early at the start of service.

for all the ones that are afdeing on O'hanns can have your ADRs,i can not get a adr to save my life. Knock on wood we have never had a bad experince at O'hanns,or Disneuy at that. We love O'hannas and would go back In a hart beat

Our ADR was for 8:45 but we got there at 5:00 to try and get seated early. There were MANY walk ups and they were getting seated in about 1 hr. tops. At 7:30 my husband walks to the podium....The girl at the podium say "OHHHHHH, you want to be seated BEFORE 8:45?"

My brain is in pain thinking of this. What on earth must she have been thinking? I mean, I was a server/barmaid for a brief period of time, and had a fabulous moment of cluelessness one late night, but she definitely tops it!

Yeah, you chose to sit there for 2.5 hours instead of doing, oh, anything else, with another hour and 15 to go...sure ya did!

Yall need to learn to open your mouths more at the restaurant and less on a message board.

That's actually not true, if you have your usercp set up to your specifications. When I post I do NOT get subscribed; I have to specifically click to subscribe to a thread, or use the handy dropdowns at the top of a thread to do it. That poster must have used the dropdown IN the reply-to-post area...they could have just done it from the thread.

I learned something new tonight about the boards. Thanks bumbershoot!

Our meal at 'Ohana on Sunday night was a HUGE improvement from our dinner last year. But I made it very clear to our server that this was our 2nd visit and certain to be our last if it wasn't better and that our biggest disappointment the 1st time was how rushed the meal was. She made a point of not rushing us. The courses were nicely paced. My only complaint would be the meats - there was a large party of over 10 people a few tables over from us. The servers kept taking the meats there first and running out before they even left that table. It took a while before they came back out and by then my noodles and veggies were cold (and I like to have those with my protein.) When we finally got meat, I would say that the pork and chicken were very dry and overcooked. The shrimp were good and my son got some really good steak, but DD and I got some downright burned pieces of steak. Dessert was wonderful (even though I was convinced it would be a step down from the phenomenal coconut bread pudding we had a Jiko a few days prior.) But it was great and our server even brought extra ice cream right off the bat.

Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would definitely try it again - but I think we'll skip the pork and chicken altogether next time. The wings are moist and tender and I'll stick with them.
