Just back...anyone else sick?

We were there the 13-18 and I got it there and now dh and dd have it. Mine is just about gone. It started with the throat and is mostly a cough with drainage down the throat.

Also, my dd got a double eye and double ear infection from the hotel pool. We had to visit urgent care down there.

Yep :guilty: Our youngest started sniffling last night before MNSSHP. I wasn't sure at that point if it was allergies or a cold but after 24 hours of worsening symptoms, there's no doubt it is a respitory illness. This is the first time we've 'caught' something at Disney :guilty: At least he didn't spend the entire trip miserable. Unfortunately, he has asthma, so even a simple cold can be really harmful.

yes I am in TN too.. my daughter had strep last week.. funny thing is.. or weird I guess you would say.. she only ran a fever.. that was it..no other symptons.

My son tested positive for strep with only a sandpaper rash on his tummy. weird.

There's a respiratory virus, A.K.A cold, going around here. It's a good one, low-grade fever, cough, runny nose for 10 days or so. Everyone's getting it. It's the time of year school kids start passing it around. Part of life's joys.

My parents just got back on Thursday
Dad was sick with cough and sinus stuff most of the week.
My cousin and her daughters were there at the same time and they had a stomach virus, throwing up and all.
Now my Mom has the stomach virus.

We arrived in Orlando on the 23rd of September. My son got the cold first and then my daughter. He cried on the plane home on the 29th saying his ears were hurting. Since they've been home, my daughter has gotten over it, but my son still has a slight cold. I believe their problems are allergy related.

Hope you feel better. I told them they were allergic to lovebugs. LOL

We've stopped using the air on planes because it's just recirculating all the germy air.

I knew what you meant as soon as I read this, but I still had to laugh. I can just imagine somebody holding their breath the whole flight.

Anyway, I have a cold right now and I'm thankful. I leave in 11 days, so by the time I leave, I will be over the cold and hopefully will also have a bit of extra immunity built up in my system to fight off any other possible colds while I'm in WDW. The only problem is, I can't miss work over the next week and a half, too much to do. I'll just have to suffer through this cold and go to work anyway.

A lot of us in the area are catching some upper respiratory infection. I suffered through it for about 10 days, I had to call in sick for 2 days at work and they finally put me on antibiotics which eventually got rid of it.

It's not surprising that these infections are easily passed around in a place where so many people share ride vehicles, bathrooms, etc.

Hope you are feeling better.

My mom came down with a cold or respiratory thing a couple of days ago. We leave for WDW in 18 days so I hope the rest of us don't get it. She's feeling better and should be fine by then.

I have a friend who is an MD. He claims that the American "germ fetish" is making us sicker.

He has patients who spend half thier time disinfecting EVERYTHING they come in contact with, guess which ones get sickest when exposed to a new environment? Thier immune system actually has less resistance then people who excerise basic caution according to him. So when they go on a cruise, vacation etc he knows they will be in his office with a major illness later.
There may be something to this line of thinking. In 2004 when our family went to Disneyland I spent most of the year before getting into what was probably the best shape of my life. Got down to about 6% body fat. Lifted weights and ran alot. Most of all was my diet. I ate extremely clean foods. Egg whites, chicken breasts, tuna and lots of vegetables.
So we went in June to Disneyland and I thought," Gee I feel good, I look great! I'm gonna eat whatever I want while I'm here!"

Sure enough, two days later I got sick as a dog :sad2: . Some kind of stomach virus or food poisoning. I spent 3 days in the hotel while my family had fun! :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

So the next year we went I didn't go so extreme in my diet. Everything in moderation. I still worked out but didn't mind occasional ice cream, pizza, etc.

I haven't gotten sick since! Go figure!

:sad1: Just returned yesterday and I found this thread kind of ironic. I had a scratchy throat and sneezes all week. Yesterday night it turned into a full blown cold. I am very careful to use antibacterial wipes and wash my hands, but still seemed to have caught something. Or perhaps it is Disney withdrawal setting in already :confused3

Well, after almost a week...I am still sick. Sore throat is gone, but the cough and congestion are still going strong. I feel more alert and not so groggy today; but am very PHLEGMY!!!! I have been using the typical OTC meds in hope that it will go away. I hate going to see a doc, might just have one of the docs I work with call me in a script for an antibiotic. This really stinks. I feel so bad for my hubby, we only spent one day at a park..the MK; but only went to ride on a few rides at the other parks. We won't be goin back for a few years, want to try some other places. At least he got to ride Expedition Everest before I got sick.

I came down with something upon returning from my trip in May.

My theory: I'm normally the type to not really catch many colds (or at least I get well quicker than friends and family).

However, after an INTENSE four day trip, where my friends and I ran ourselves ragged hitting those parks from open to close every day with no rest stop (we stayed off property for FREE...friend gave us their time share with no cost, but it was a half-hour drive away so no trips back to the hotel mid-day!), I think that it's all those germs that float freely in the airplane home that did me in.

I was weaker on the way home than I was on the way down simply from all the walking and that heat we endured! Drinking around the world probably didn't help strengthen us either ;)

Greetings everyone from "germ-y" Missouri. Hope everyone is feeling better.

I think respiratory issues are going around everywhere....I came down with the rattle in my chest, horrible cough, aches and pains, tummy ache on Saturday. We leave in about 4 weeks, so at least it should be gone by then. I have racked my brain but can't even figure out where I got exposed to this--no one I know is sick....unless its those little car-poolers....

So true!!! We are so obsessed with being germ free that we don't get to build up any imunities any more. I have a friend who was telling me the other day that when her family eats out, she makes everyone use Purell after touching the menus!!!! Yep, that's right. She says that there are so many people with bad 'bathroom habits' that you just don't know who/what has touched those menus before you. Just a bit over the top in my opinion.

I always go wash my hands after handleing menus. Excuse me but I am getting ready to eat and if the person who handled that menu just before has influenza, or terrible bathrooms habits, well I really dont want to share that with my meal! Not over the top. just common sense.

we have been back awhile, but around where i am i think something is going around. everyone i know is coughing, sneezing, etc. my dd17 has had a cough for 2 months. my 5 month old grandson has been sick, we were at the hospital 2 times this week with him. we were there sunday for 5 hours. they have him on augmentin, it was so sad he had the worst fever , which resulted in a rash all over him, including his head.............i wanted to cry..he was so sick. today hes a little better. but reallly its def. something in the air............
