Just back....and I have a new pet peeve!

I dont think my cousin would last long at WDW. He has a huge temper. But he has huge muscles to back it up. :) Can you ay brick outhouse! He was kicked out of a stage theater and sued by another person who had a camera at our old theater directors play he was starring in. (yes, I was in theater. 6 years. ) We were sitting there watching the play and someone two seats to our right was snapping pics like Aerosmith just walked on stage. There are signs all over the place telling you not to use flash photography due to the actors need for vision. :) Mike finally got sick of it, reached over and grabbed the guys camera, walked out into the lobby and opened the front door and chucked it into the street. Btw, this is after the guy was asked by everyone around him including stage staff to stop. I never laughed so hard.

I must admit I did the "flash" totally by mistake in December:guilty: !
We got our first digital camera about 2-3 weeks before we left and I had tried it out at home on our Christmas tree, cats, etc----mostly with the feature where you can turn the flash off.(notice all of the things I was taking pics of couldn't say to me "hey idiot you still have a light going off"!).
I knew the rule about no flash photography so I thought this would be great and I was feeling so smart with my "wonder camera"!! :teeth:
After snapping away with my new "I can turn the flash off" camera :snooty:, it wasn't until I actually got on Buzz Lightyear, took a couple of pictures and they stopped the ride TWICE did I realize that even though it says no flash and there isn't a blinding white flash there is still quite the orange light that goes off and it was stopping because of me! :earseek:
I am sorry to everyone on the ride...it said I could turn the flash off and I was so proud of myself :blush:I honestly didn't know :)
Needless to say---that was the end of my inside pictures!

When I was there in January, we saw alot of people taking flash pictures and also using video cameras on the dark rides and on some bumpy ones (Star Wars). My pet peeve that trip was rude Brazilians. After waiting in line with my 8 y/o GD for 45 minutes to get her a candy sculpture from the Japanese candy lady, I heard someone saying 'excuse me, excuse me' and this Brazilan lady was pushing her two daughter in front of everyone. My GD and I was next in line (after two other ladies) and I just put my hand on the cart in front of the Brazilian girl and said 'the line is back there'. The mother said 'excuse me, but we're in a hurry and my daughters want a candy animal'. I said "so were we, but we've waited 45 minutes and so can you now get back or I'll be yelling for security so loud they'll hear me back in Brazil". She then started making comments about 'rude Americans'.

Two days later at MK there was this young Brazilian family and the little boy (about 5 or 6) was very hyper and kept swinging on the railings kicking everybody around him and when people looked at them the parents just laughed. We were stuck behind them on two different rides (Snow White and Mickey's Philharmagic). As we were going into MP the little boy was bouncing around and fell into my son's elbow. He immediately bounced off and instead of crying raised his fists and came at my son. The father (who knew it was an accident and the little boy's own fault) finally grabbed him, but just a few minutes later he was bouncing into other people. He was small, but his little feet really hurt when he was kicking and swinging on the railings. As my GD said, he was a brat. Kids will be kids and you expect an occasional bump, but not continuously and purposely.

A few nights later at the Cirque show a young Brazilian couple had obviously bought their tickets as walk ups and so were not sitting together. The man was next to me and asked if I would mind changing seats with his wife who was sitting a couple of rows back and several seats over. I told him no, I was sitting with my son and GD. He tried to keep insisting saying my GD had her dad to sit by her and didn't need me, and his wife was sitting by herself among strangers. Well excuse me, but if I had moved I would be sitting amongst strangers and besides I ordered my tickets several months before in order to get the seats I wanted (like they should have). He got really annoyed because I would not change. Apparently his wife had asked him to ask, because in a few moments she was calling down to him and he was shaking his head and said something about 'Americans'. As soon as the show started he immediately reached in his back pack and pulled out a small video camera and started taping. I politely told him that there was no flash photography allowed and no video taping. He rather snottily said 'if you don't like it, you should have changed seats like I asked you to'. Within just a few moments a CM came down and told him to cut off the video camera and suddenly he acted like he didn't speak English. I couldn't help it--I said that's strange you were very fluent in English just a few moments ago. He did finally cut the camera off.

Most of the Brazilians we met were really pretty nice. It was only a few that caused any problems. We saw parents encouraging their kids to urinate where ever they were and there were always some cutting in lines. Buzz Lightyear got stopped, because a Brazilian girl dropped her purse and she dove after it. It took forever to restart and afterwards the points were not posted for some reason. I guess with the long wait to get her and her purse back in, the points were lost.

When we were on Star Wars a young Brazilian woman taped the whole thing. After all the problems we'd had with the Brazilians all week, my son whispered to me he hoped she dropped the camera. Tacky, I know!

What is the orange light from? I have never heard of this. (means nothing since I just bought my first digital camera) I wanna know if this is going to happen with mine.

new pet peeve after going to MK today. 3-4 people holding hands walking side by side down the sidewalk or street. I couldn't move right or left because of the crowds so had to stop and hope they would break their hands apart and let me through. They also were walking one direction on the bridges and sidewalks so if you were trying to go the other way you had a hard time.
Move to the middle and stop. No matter what you do they have to break apart.

What dark rides need is a CM with a spotlight up in the rafters to shine on people who do flash photography. Also, what would happen if another rider took his own flash camera and flashed at the miscreant (works only with digital cameras).

Put your finger over the flash lens if you are unsure whether the flash will go off.

I probably would take pictures if I was evacuated from a broken down ride.

Aubriee....at the risk of making myself very unpopular I'm going to agree with you and even add to your comments.

We were at Disney World from 1/28-2/2 of this year and had a wonderful time despite a few annoying moments. (I posted a quasi-trip report under the thread Gay Couple Just Returned...comments, compliments, complaints.) I mentioned a few of my gripes i.e, cell phones and hot tub hogging but steered clear from specifying my other complaint for fear a seeming intolerant. But, well, now here I go....we were regularly offended folks visiting from south of the border (Mexican, Brazilian? I'm just not sure)
.
I just want to say both of us (my girlfriend and I) are educated liberal women...in short there's nothing Bill O'Riely about us!!! Still, even through our "enlightend" lens we were completely put off by what we saw!

For instance:

Screaming to family members at the top of your lungs rather that walking the 20 feet to address them face to face.
Littering....I'm a NUTS over littering!!! I personally picked up several cups and wrappers purposely dropped.
Spitting....I saw so many WOMEN spitting "ugg"
Kids out of control...swinging and hitting other guests and the parents not caring one bit.
Running...herds of teens running and weaving through the crowds knocking anyone and everyone over.

And my last gripe/story. A seeming disregard for anyone else We were in MK, having lunch outside Pecos Bill Cafe. Our lunch was made just a little bit more fun because of the family next to us...a really sweet couple with adorable little kids. So we're all sitting and just as the parade begins the Spanish speaking family that had been sitting between us and the parade route (right up against the fence) suddenly get up and stand on their chairs. Now mind you there's NOTHING blocking their view and so no reason to get up on their chairs. So the dad of the cute kids asks "could you folks sit back down, we can't see?". The other family turns around looks and decides to ignore the request. So then I speak up "could you please sit back down?", to which one of the woman says (in Spanish) this is not your house shoots us all a dirty look and then turns back around! Mind you I didn't know what she said, but my girlfriend, who used to do community outreach work, understands a little. So she pipes up "do you stand on the furniture in your own house?". I thought that would do it, but still none of them moved. Now what's with that!?!

(ducking, hoping I haven't made to many enemies) :scared:

Ditto,Ditto!! I am not very confrontational, but I can give a dead on "what the ****" are you doing look, real quick! :smooth:

I hate to say it but I may not last very long in a park ifthis stuff happens to me. I am a challenging, and hard headed person and I dont take that kind of garbage off "It's all about ME" people. My wife would probably go get a CM, I would ask once, and ONLY once. Then I get ticked (trying not to curse. These make me so mad) and get physical. I wouldnt hit them, but there are ways and areas to apply pressure that would make them completely understand your point of view. And no, I wouldnt get this way with a young kid.

Some people are complete freaking idots and are just begging/needed someone to beat the crud out of them.

We just got back as well (1/29- 2/5). I agree about the "flashers", but I was amazed at the rudeness in general. This was only our second trip, but our first trip was great in January of '04. Everyone was so friendly and we didn't encounter anyone being rude at all. This time, it was horrible. I can 't tell you how many times my kids (ages 5 & 10) got trampled by kids or old women who were trying to get to the rides first. And we are not slow walkers by any means, so it wasn't like we were being like those obnoxious people who get in front of you and walk real slow.
We saw people breaking in line, knocking others out of the way to pass a few people to get in line. It was just awful. Honestly, I would have expected this more from teenagers (not that it is acceptable), but the old women were just as bad if not worse.
Even in the shops people were rude, breaking in line and pushing. I thought you were supposed to be "happy" at Disney World. It sure makes for a ruined trip when you encounter this kind of rudeness constantly. :sad2:

to everyone else except THEM!!! They think they have some special "stuff" about themselve that everyone in the world should follow the rules expect them. How dare you even bother to questions them about it! People at Disney are totally out of control when it comes to manners. :sad2:

"The rules don't apply to me." So then the kids of those people learn that "rule" by watching their parents disregard the rules, and the attitute perpetuates itself.

(I do have to add something funny, however. Last weekend we were at a dance show. The MC said to silence our cell phones, which we did. It turns out that the dance music was so loud it was literally painful. I couldn't have herd my cell phone ringing if I had held it up to my ear!)

It's the same thing at concerts and shows, when people do this, it drives me crazy! Granted the 'performers' on PoTC won't get distracted by the flashes, but it does ruin the atmosphere for the other guests, REGARDLESS of how many times we've seen it.

The rudeness was my second pet peeve. We must have encountered some of the same people while we were there!

This was our third trip and the first time I noticed this. Either there was more rudeness on this trip OR my Disney high was impaired from the cold medicine I was taking. There were people smoking all over (My DH and I smoke, but are always careful to find the smoking spots in the park, except for Saturday when we had staked out a spot to watch wishes, and even then, we still made it a point to walk to off the beaten path out of everyone elses way). People pushing, cutting in front, littering, and all sorts of stuff. On Saturday night, as we were waiting for Spectro, there were a group of kids, possibly brazilian so maybe from the same family as mentioned before, that were using the double strollers as bumper cars in the one little section off of main street. I can't tell you how many times these kids almost hit people (think of the crowds waiting for spectro). I was amazed that no CM came over to say anything, but then again, I think Disney was understaffed that day as we did not see many CM's around. I told my DH, if they hit me, I am going down and not getting back up again. Perhaps that would stop their parents from standing there and laughing at them?

I think that with the expense of Disney, some people will do just anything to get their money's worth, without thought to anyone else it may affect.

I was a real punk when I went to MK in high school with my school. I did this and now I'm sorry I know that I had to be getting on everyone's nerves. So anyone who was at MK during March of 1997, if you kept seeing flashes on Haunted Mansion and three teenage girls screaming to the top of their lungs and disrupting the whole ride, I'm very sorry. I'm a very polite person now. Oh and btw, for those of you who would like to take pictures inside haunted mansion and POTC but never would, the pictures don't turn out at all anyway.

The flash inside the POTC and HM really annoys me as well. What is worse is the huge spot light on the video camera. I had one that really blinded me in HM especially in HM during the madame leota part, this person was directly accross from me since you go in a circle during that part and totally blinded me.

Last year I was on the Pirates of the Caribbean when someone sitting right in front of me turned around and took a flash picture right in my eyes. I screamed. I couldn't see for the rest of the ride. I had to sit down outside until the white spot went away. This person didn't see too apoplectic. They said they were sorry but they didn't really mean it. I think they were trying to take a picture of the large ship as we turned the corner. Here again someone only thinking of themselves.

Hello mzspaz! We also ran into a lot of rude people on this trip. We had a guy talking on his cell phone in the HM even though a CM asked him to hang up or leave. We had UDA dance girls yell and scream through the ride in Norway. Thankfully the CM did not put us in a boat with them! Some of them never made it to the safari because they got kicked out of the queue line. People were smoking and littering everywhere. I was not disappointed with Disney but I was very unhappy with the people there the same time as us. I don't think we will be back during this time of year again.

To G00fyDad.....the orange light from a digital camera (mine is blue) is light that helps the camera focus in low lights. This is different from the flash. Both can be turned off. I also didn't realize that I had a focus assist light until I was playing with my new camera at home and took pics of my cat. She kept closing her eyes just as I was taking the pic...it drove me nuts until I noticed the light.

On another thread, I read the funniest thing . . .

A lady was in line with her family and she said that a group of about 5 (I beleive she said) Mexicans tried to push their way through. She said, "Stand in line like everyone else". They pretended not to speak English. She repeated herself and again they acted "confused". Finally she said, "Oh my gosh! There is a huge bug on your back" to who appeared to be the mother! The mother, who claimed to not speak English said, "Where? Where?" Then the first lady said, "See you DO speak English! Now get to the back of the line"! And she and her group did! :rotfl:
