I heard so many "bad" things about SSR. It was the only thing available as we booked so late, so my expectations were low. WOW - what a resort. Soooo gorgeous and perfect. We loved it so much!! I was thinking we should have paid the lower price and bought into that resort instead of AKL. I forgot to look for the THV's though, where were they? We were only there for a few nights prior to our Magic cruise.

Anyway, just wanted to share what a lovely resort it was.

I am glad you had a wonderful stay at my favorite DVC resort! :thumbsup2

I have been an out spoken supporter of SSR since our first trip three years ago.

Thanks for posting! :cool2:

This is why reading these boards should be done with a grain of salt.
The "ANTI-SSR" group seems to be very vocal. There are poster who stayed there once several years ago and periodically post about how bad it was like it's a NEW event LOL! I tend to ignore most threads regarding the following:

- Resort XYX is the worst ever
- Housekeeping
- Buses. (Started this after getting on a bus at OKW with a man who YELLED at the driver because "We waited over HALF an HOUR for this bus" Hmm... I waited 20 minutes and YOU arrived AFTER me. Time spent wandering around your room does NOT count LOL!)

If I do read them I just smile at the hysteria they produce.

Laura - we agree - we toured SSR in 06 and bought this year and stayed there in Oct for the first time and absolutely loved it.

We are going to try OKW for our Feb trip....our goal is to try all the DVC resorts to find our favorite.

That's nice to hear ! We love SSR too.

However, I can think of one reason I love all the of the DVC's that we have tried. Haven't stayed at AKV yet but I am sure there will be plenty to love there too.

As you can see from my signature we like to stay everywhere. Depending on the type of vacation, we decide where we want to book.

Enjoy trying them all. Read the boards for all the information that is available but try to keep an open mind and make your own conclusions !

Glad to hear it! Can't wait to see it for ourselves in just a few months now. :goodvibes

We bought last week and used some Dev point and stayed there 3 nights. LOVED the resort, but I didnt care for the bus rides themselves. The buses were right on time always, but had a couple of drivers that need to go back to driving school :)

We love SSR. I think each resort has something different which makes it unique and inviting. I dont understand why people have to go and bash a certain resort if they have different preferences. That is why I don't listen to some of the things commented on the boards and I try everything at least once and make my own opinions.

This post makes me feel good.:goodvibes Been members since 93, and believe it or not, we've only stayed at OKW except for two nights at BW in
06. We are staying at SSR on Dec. 3-7. I get a little nervous when I see those negative posts. I usually ignore them.Since both kids are now in college we plan on trying all the DVC resorts. SSR is first on the list.
P.S. I'm open to any and all feedback regarding any tips.:goodvibes

Thanks for the post. We're staying there in May and cannot wait!

Glad to hear you had a nice trip and enjoyed SSR.

We first stayed there a few summers ago for a non-Disney Park trip and were a bit apprehensive.

Then on that first stay they had to go an upgrade us from a studio to a 1 bedroom villa! YUCK! Wow, did we hate that! Who wants a full kitchen and separate rooms? Who wants separate bathrooms and one with a jacuzzi?? Who wants a washer and dryer to do your laundry at your leisure? Who wants mousekeeping to make these cute little ribbons out of all the towels and to put all of your dirty dishes in the dishwasher so when you come back from your day everything is clean??

Who wants to look out of their windows and see all of DTD glowing at night?? WE DO!! WE DO!! That's why we've stayed there 6 times since!! :lmao: We've have come to love SSR, 1 bedroom or studio. Just love that conveniences and the ambiance of such a peaceful, laid back resort so close to everything! We have done Disney park trips since that first time.

I was even impressed that this past trip (we were there over Halloween) in the mornings there was a CM at each bus stop monitoring the timing of the buses. So just when you thing there might be "issues", WDW seems to be right on top of them.;)

And to top it off, they've been running so many deals for AP holders or FL residents. Some people call it an apt. complex...I call it "my escape from the real world" ;) ...pretty far from an apt. complex as far as I'm concerned. (guess those same people call the CR, Motel 6!:rotfl2: with a train going through it!;) )

Make reservations at Turf Club. It's fantastic. Also, be prepared, because the rooms at all of the DVC resorts are MUCH smaller. I think staying at SSR was a culture shock for my BIL/SIL, as they are OKW owners, and have stayed at OKW since '95. :scared:

If you don't have a car and want to go to other resorts (for dinner, let's say), walk to DTD and hop a bus. For parks, you can catch a bus right in SSR. Also, take a walk to OKW from SSR if you haven't done that. Absolutely beautiful, plus, you can say hello to your old stomping grounds! :goodvibes Lastly, if you enjoy working out, take clothes. The workout facility there is the best!!!

Here's a sneak peak! I LOVE my home resort. :cloud9:

It's so funny that I stumbled upon this post. We just returned from SSR on 11/11/08 and we LOVED it!! We stayed on developer points and after reading so many posts about people not caring for it my expectations were really low and to be honest I was kind of disappointed that we had to use our developer points there. I spent the entire flight preparing my mom who hadn't been to WDW since 1979 to be disappointed as well:rotfl: . Once we arrived my fears were definately put to rest and we were throughly impressed! We had a fabulous dedicated 2 bedroom and we saw the treehouses being constructed and they look really neat. I too thought to myself wow we should have saved a few bucks and bought here. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

I have to add that after our first day in the parks we returned to a completely flooded room. A pipe had burst in the closet and when we returned the master bathroom, closet, part of the master bedroom, and out into the living area was completely flooded! This normally would have sent my DH into a ranting fit (doesn't care much for being inconvinienced on vacation). He liked the place so much and was so impressed with how quickly they reacted and took care of us that he didn't even get a little upset. From the time I called and let them know what had happened to the time we were settled in a new room was all of about 45 minutes. It just happens that the head maintenance guy they sent was from Albuquerque which is where we live and DH is from Orlando so that was a funny coincidence and we had a great conversation with him and when all was said and done they also gave us $200 for our inconvinience. In the end I would definately recomend SSR. We really liked it and would definately stay there again!
