I am newly joined to the boards, although I used them a lot before my trip for reference. After my trip, I felt like its only fair that I share my experiences.
I was one of the people panicking a little over the AKL construction but was assured before my trip that I would not be affected. I had reserved a pool view room.
I have to say, although we did hear a little construction here and there, we were NOT affected by it. It was just DH and I, celebrating our anniversary, so I'm not sure if it would be different with young children. We were able to walk out to the area to view the animals, which to me was just as good had we seen them from the window. The animals there are pretty lazy, grazing type animals, so IMO there isn't really much to see. You get a lot better animal experience at the safari at the AK.
When I think back, we didn't really have a "pool view" because we were on the first floor and there was more shrubbery outside our window, but I guess we were pool side. But I have to say, I love love love our room location. It was room 1018. Off the giraffe trail, right inside the entrance to the hotel, and down the elevator, we were the first room in the hall, right next to the outside door (an easy walk to the pool/the Mara) and the elevator. I had read about people being so far down the paths that it was a 10-15 minute trek to the bus stop, so I enjoyed having a room close to everything.
Just wanted to share my 2 cents. I guess if you are called about moving your room, then you should, but if not, you may be on the side I was, away from everything. Good luck!
