I have some great raves, and some big complaints (tho mostly not dis). Lets first get the complaints out of the way...

We went to Planet Hollywood for dinner. They were seating immediately. There were lots of tables. However, they INSISTED on sending us to a different floor so again we waited on the 1 slow tiny elevator. When we arrived to our floor there were 2 tables by the hostess area. I asked if we could get one of them since we had Julias power chair. Nope. We were to go to 17... umm ok. We had to ask _4_ tables of people to get up and move their chairs as well as one lady in a wheelchair in order to get her power chair to our table. I was MAD. I immediately asked to speak to the manager.... poor fella got the wrath of momma bear. Looking back I should have simply refused to ask people to move. I had never been presented with this situation. The manager blamed young inexperienced hostesses. I told him it wasn't their fault they were not equiped with information. I suggested he rent a wheelchair and figure out which tables are accessible. Once he figures it out he should mark those for his "young inexperienced" staff. Then they would know.

Our room in SSR had little white mini moth-looking bugs.... and noone seemed to care. It was seen as "normal" I guess. I won't even go there in this post.

We went to Rainforest Cafe. I had told them 5, one of which was a wheelchair. As the hostess took us to the table she said "Are you sure you want her to stay in *that thing*? It looks too short for our tables" I thought that remark was a bit rude, especially in front of Julia. So Julia pipes up and says "I will sit in my chair just fine thank you." She pulled up to the table and used her hydrolics to get to the proper height she needed and the hotess stood there staring at her. I said "Thank you for seating us, is there anything else?" she was like "Oh, no... nothing else" and left. One would think this would be out of a 17 yr old hostess, but no she was probably in her 40's. Nice...

At Typhoon Lagood Julia tripped and hit her nose (thanks to some running older kids). Her nose started *gushing* blood. I asked the lifeguard if they had any gause or anything. They said to go to the fist aid station (umm opposite end of park). I asked where the restroom was I could get tissue to wipe her off. I was instructed to just rinse her in the water?! Ummmm eww. I know chlorine is a potent chemical, but patrons should not be told to rinse blood off in the water. I took her to her chair and thankfully had a pack of wipes so I cleaned her up and got it stopped. I was appauled!

The few times we took the bus (and even while driving) we noticed a TON of transportation CMs at bus stops marking how often busses were coming, how many people were waiting, etc. So it was evident they are working on the bus system.

We went to the P&P party on the 4th. We waited in line because Julia wanted to see the princesses. They were taking 3 families at a time and switching off for pictures with each princess. However when we got there they closed off the room. They let Julia have about 30 mins with all 3 princesses. She was *THRILLED*! They sang and danced with her, played with her. I just stood in the corner sputtering. Momma needed tissues! I felt bad for those in line, but every time I tried to get Julia to move along, no one would hear of it. It was FABULOUS! That, my friends is what we love about Disney! So here is a pic of the princesses:

Overall it was a great trip! We had to do a LOT at night (after 7). It was much too hot for Julia during the day. We would sleep in, go to the pool and then nap before doing something in the evenings. Overall it was a great trip! :) I also wanted to say Julias power chair doesn't fit on any of the accessible carts. We transfer her for everything.

Wow! What a special moment with the Princesses! I am so glad they did that for you.

I'm also glad they are working on the transportation issue. I am a little worried about our trip because we will have to use the busses with my ECV.

Yuck about the bugs--hope we don't run into a problem like that !

All in all, it sounds like you had a good time.

She is just so adorable with those princesses. No wonder they wanted to spend so much time with her. She's such a cutie.

How nice of "The Princesses" to do that for her!!!! Real Magic!:wizard:

Sorry that those rest. hostesses were less than magical. :(

REAL princesses know another one when they see eachother....just wanted to spend time with their best friend, Princess Julia! Hey, the others were just commoners waiting for an audience!

I am not at all surprised to hear about the Royal Treatment Julia received. We experienced so much Disney Magic when we were on our Wish Trip. I have never been to a place where such a high percentage of staff are courteous, friendly and fun. WDW has got to be the employee smile capital of the world.

::yes::
For Princess Julia
:cutie: :tinker: :flower2: :flower: :daisy: :flower1: :butterfly :jumping1: :genie: :flower3: princess:

What a beautiful Princess--and spunky too! Loved her comment to the hostess!

Believe me, sometimes it is not just the hostesses that don't think. We were at the mall food court and I was in my scooter and DH decided to pick a table in the center of the area where I couldn't get in :headache:

At Aquarium of the Pacific nobody was in the restaurant. When we were done eating it was packed and we had to ask a lot of people to move. It is sad when a restaurant like Rainforest do not plan for disabled guests. The one at DLR always had clear aisle, hmm, I wonder why that one did not.

It is good that Princess Julia stood up for herself. Great attitude and she will go far in the world. Thanks for the report and you are blessed to have such a sweet princess.

Thanks for the TR! I always wonder how the Princesses manage to stay dry-eyed when encountering a special child? I'm so glad this one memory was made but sorry for the rude encounters. How did her SD do? Did you get to ride the boats at SSR?---Kathy

We did ride the boats at SSR. They were easy! We only needed the ramp once, but most of the time there was only a small lip and her chair goes right over that. Once there was a bout a 4 inch drop (the boat was full) and we needed the ramp.

Lucas didn't get to go with us this trip! I spent the entire week worried about Julia getting too hot and me not noticing. It was stressful. I think next time I will cancel if he is unable to go. His paw got a cut on it a few weeks back and then it got infected and the vet didn't feel it had enough healing time before we left for the hot hot ground and long days of walking. He spent the week at work with my DH. No teacups for Lucas thi trip :(

I am sorry that you had a hard time in some of the resturants. It happens to us all of the time....
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful picture I am sure you needed many tissues!!!!!

I'm glad the trip went well over-all. So sorry to hear about your dealings with idiots, my jaw practically hit the floor when I read her comment about "that thing" :scared1: !!!!! You got me welling up reading about her meeting the princesses; I'm amazed you managed not to completely dissolve into a puddle of tears in the corner ! As for Lucas, I hope his paw is healing OK, and sorry his missed out on his holiday (glad to hear Julia coped, though).

You too, huh?! My fella still does that to me sometimes, and I've been using my wheelchair outside the house for over a year and a half now! Poor, silly men, I really don't know what they'd do without us :rotfl: ;)

We had trouble with the seating a Planet Hollywood too, although no one in our party was in a wheel chair. The tables are simply too close together! The hostess pointed out our table and I actually said, "You're kidding, right?" The chairs were pushed all the way up to the table and the occupied chairs around it were push right up to our chairs. There was no way to even pull the chairs out from the tables without out saying, "Excuse me" to the people already seated around them. It was difficult just for us to sit down at the table. I can't imagine trying to navigate that mess with a wheel chair!

Julia is adorable! I'm glad she had a great trip.:)

I was just remembering a dinner at Wolfgang Puck's a couple of years ago. They seated us at an end table in a corner. It was hard enough to maneuver but when we were ready to leave, the restaurant was even more crowded. Same thing- people having to get up and move so I could get out. I ended up knocking over an empty wine glass from a nearby empty table ( glad it wasn't full and glad the table wasn't either!). My kids were embarrassed but it wasn't my fault as I don't have eyes in the back of my head and there really wasn't enough room. Perhaps the seaters need to try seating themselves in a w/c so they'd have a bit more common sense.---Kathy

very good idea.
we've been seated before where whole tables have had to be moved for us.

Oh, I think I saw you guys at the pool at SSR on 6/5/08! This is the first time I've ever read a thread and recognized the people in the pictures! Looks like you were having a great time in the pool. It was hot that day!

Umm yep probably us! We are pretty easy to recognize...

Please tell me we were on good behavior when you saw us?

Your story of Julia and the princesses is just wonderful. She's a precious little girl and apparently has some chutzpah! (Good for her---putting that hostess in her place).

Oh, I forgot to say that I too have had problems with the wheelchair access in Planet Hollywood. We were pretty lucky, in that we were only one row of tables in, so only had one set of people to squeeze passed, but my main problem was with the toilets. I went and asked where the disabled toilets were, and was told I'd have to go right down to the bottom floor, so off I went in the one tiny elevator, that seems to be used by about half of the restaurant's customers at the same time. When I got there, the stall was pretty tiny, and the toilet was completely blocked. So off I went again, to try and find a member of staff to ask. After being ignored for five minutes or so, I was told there was another toilet further up (can't remember which floor). So off I rolled, yet again, to find this one. This time, when I got there, there was no way on earth I was going to fit my chair into this cubicle (barely bigger than a regular stall), even though my chair is a fairly standard size. In the end, I was directed to one on the very top floor, which was a single large cubicle, opening into the restaurant seating (not sure how hygienic that is, but by this point I was beyond caring). Oh, and the people repeatedly rattling on the door handle while I was in there (despite my many calls of "just a minute"), really put that final cherry on the top! It must have been about fifteen minutes between my leaving the table and getting back to it; my mother thought I'd fallen down the toilet, or something :lmao:

Anyway, that's my little (hmmm... well, not that little :rotfl: ) rant over. Once again, sorry you had those bad experiences, mykidsintow, but I'm glad the holiday went well over all! :goodvibes
