Just asked CM about UPH...?

I think it's a shame that they won't allow you to "officially" drop off the day of arrival and departure. If they would think about it they might make MORE money allowing it. Take myself and my husband for example. We stay the first and last night off site because of that very thing. I had decided to stay all 7 nights at All Star Sports because I didn't want to change hotels BUT it's just not worth taking the risk of not going ahead with the discounted rate AND paying more since we would need to drop both days. We could buy the extra day in advance for only a $2 bucks more....but why? We don't need it. I think Disney is somewhat shooting themselves in the foot on this one. For some people it's worth the extra money to not have to move. But for us single "frugal" couples it just doesn't make sense to pay the higher rate of a Disney hotel and then have to buy tickets for days we can't use. I know the hoppers are out there but we love the flexibility we have with the LOS/UPH tickets. I still love Disney and you will still find me there every chance I get....but they sure seem to be making things more difficult than they have to be.

I tend to agree with you, WDW or BUST. They could make much more in getting folks to stay those first and last nights on property than they can by sticking it to folks for park time the won't use. But it seems that they'd rather get a little extra out of guests for nothing (having them pay for days they may not use) than to get much more out of them with the cost involved in having a room occupied for a night. But, just like with the DVC park discount issue...they don't seem to be seeing that they are encouraging people to step away from WDW on occasions that they might not otherwise do so.

The one time we used UPH's we stayed at the Wyndham in DTD via Priceline before checking in at the Polynesian promptly at 7am the next day. I would have liked more nights at the Polynesian....but since I would have been forced to get more days on our tickets than I wanted, we stayed elsewhere. Same applies to the end of the trip....

Oh, well....maybe someday they'll figure out it would really be a win/win situation.

I think that many here are under the mistaken impression that Disney wants you to use the passes. What they actually want is to have people buy the passes and not use the entire length of time. If you buy the first and last day, most will not be able to use them fully and therefore Disney gets pay for a service it doesn't render. I suspect they make more money doing it the way they do instead of only providing what is needed.

The post quoting MS got me to thinking. What if one checked in at 8 am, would they let you drop the first day? I wonder.

Besides, I don't see the UMP as a reasonable option for most people, too expensive for what you get. One way around some of this involves changing resorts, simply having a new reservation or changing rooms or room types will count as one stay. I'd say though that if you change reservations for the same resort, they usually don't know enough to connect the 2.
