My daughter worked so hard studying for exams and the rsults showed that that I decided to surprise her with a 3 night get away to Disney World.

Calling last minute (about 1 month ago) there was nothing available at any of the resorts but I put a wait list request. A studio at SSR came thru.

Left from Detroit a few minutes late this morning on Southwest Air. They made up the time in flight. We arrived on A side, walked over to the B side and walked right on the Disney Express bus. Two other quick stops at POR and OKW and we were checking in in under an hour from arrive at MCO.

I have never been to SSR before. It is a BIG resort. We are way over in the 7000 buildings (Carousel) which looks to be a longs ways from everything except a bus stop. We are heading to Downtown Disney to go to T REX in about an hour so we will see how the bus works out.

When checking in I did ask if we could have a room closer to DDT so that we could just walk there but they told us there was nothing available. No big deal.

We used a golf cart type shuttle to get to our room. That was probably the longest wait we have had (15 minutes) so all is good.

The room is very nice. Looks like it has been freshly painted and new carpet. There is some water around the fridge and it looks like the power was off for a while so maybe it defrosted a little.

I'll post some photos later on this evening.

WOW ... one hour after checking in and our luggage arrived. Nice.

Nice Reward!!! All I ever got for good grades when I was a kid was "awesome job, that covers your rent for the last three months" from my Dad.

Let's see if I can add a few photos I took today.

Detroit Airport before we left for Orlando. One of our favourite restaurants at Downtown Disney is the "Earl of Sandwich". They have an Earl at Detroit Metro Airport. Excellent!

We are on our way to Orlando ....

Our room ... a studio at Disney's Saratogo Springs. Courtney get the bed (it's her trip) and I get the pull out bed. Still it is very comfortable.

Some photos of Disney's Saratogo Springs Resort this evening. The sun was beginning to set so the photos may be a little dark.

Saratoga Springs is a very nice resort. My first thought was that this place is huge and you need a car to get around. Before heading to downtown Disney we did a bit of exploring and even though we are in the far corner of the resort it really isn't that far away from the main lobby, and boat transportation. It was a nice walk.

We went to T-REX for dinner. The place was busy, busy, busy. Thank goodness I made reservations about a week ago. Arrived at 8PM and they seated us right away. looks like most were walk up reservations and I overheard them say that the wait was over an hour.

So here are some T-REX photos:

Loving the pics, we head to SSR in June for the first time so this is very helpful! We are going to try T Rex too, so we'll be making a reservation. Do they have any mug refill stations around SSR that are closer if you are so far out from the Main building, or is it JUST at the Main building? Great pics , keep em' coming!:thumbsup2

Good morning,

We are in the boondocks area, I mean Carousel area. :) It's really not that bad. There is a pool is the Paddocks area close by. I think the mug refill station is in the main building / lobby. Not near where we are at all. It's about a 10 minute walk.

Loving your TR so far and the photos are great:thumbsup2 We will be staying at SSR for the first time in May and I am always glad to read people's reviews of the resort. Wishing you a great stay;)

Good TR we head to SSR for the first time end of April!! How is the pool arear?? It is zero entry right?

Just back from a full day at the parks. I am pooped and heading to bed. I took a lot of photos today and will try and upload some in the morning.

Just an update about SSR.

This is a nice resort. The longer I have stayed here the more I like it. It is spread out but really not as much as I first thought.

The grounds are beautiful.

Our home resort is the Beach Club. Staying there is a very different experience. I like it there too but my opinion of SSR resort has changed for the better.

Night all.
Gary

Gary,
Glad you are having a good time, I appreciate the updates and the pics. Great news about your mind changing about the resort. I have been reading a lot of negatives lately and it had me worried for our upcoming stay. We'll be there for 10 nights so hopefully it will grow on us too!

Hey! We saw your daughter at DTD. I'm a people watcher and was sitting near T-REX waiting for my kids. It was so busy that we didn't even stop to look in the shop - which is torture for my 2 teens. Glad you like the resort. We're in the Grandstand for the first time and it's fantastic.
