We are waiting for our room.

When I checked in they said 4 pm. When I called for readiness, the CM told me check is 4, but not guaranteed until 5. I didn't argue, but I think that is plain incorrect. Right?

Traffic on I 95 from mid SC to I 4 was negligible heading south and a nightmare heading north. This encouraged us. Breakfast at the Hampton in Palm Coast was empty. Only a few other people there. The 1BR suite was about $15 more than a regular room and slept 6 easily on the 2 beds and sleeper sofa. I would recommend it for larger families on a budget. Very clean and friendly as usual for Hampton.

My DD9 (with epilepsy) had a seizure and cut her face. We were in Celebration ER by 11. She needed 6 stitches on her face and 2 inside her mouth. My wife is at the pharmacy getting the prescription for antibiotics and doing grocery shopping while we sit around waiting for the room.

A few notes on check in. Best I have had at WDW!! Kudos to Kenzo from Botswana and all the staff. No welcome homes but who cares when everyone this nice. No line at all and it looked like the counter was fully staffed and waiting for busloads of people. We were assigned a room on the Suset Savannah, which was not available, so so she went to check for available rooms she assigned us an Arusa room. Also not available. Her smile was not as big when it turned out my wife's name was mistakenly not on the reservation and she had to go back and get another charging ID card (my fault, won't explain). But she handled it well and told me to check back with her to see if we can get an earlier room. When I went back , though, the lines were quite long, so we came back outside to wait.

We went to lunch at Mara's. Their Caesar salads were excellent (with chicken). The CM at the counter said the salads without meat are pre-made in the refrigerators. She was a little snippy at one point, but no biggie. She made a great salad.

The coffee at Mara is a B-. I like mine stronger. I noticed they have FRESH BREWED TEA!!!!. Which is hard to find down here. I can't wait to try it. The quality is yet to be seen -- or tasted.

Very impressive landscaping at pool. Much like Poly with similar plants, but I actually like it better. I feel more Disney "magic" here than I thought I would.

gotta sign off.

I will come back and proof later and update.

This afternoon the pool has been relatively unbusy. About 2/3 of the chairs are taken. Is that because there is no pool hopping?? I'm glad there is not. (We own OKW and usually stay there and for me pool hopping is too much hassle anyway.)

So here we wait by the ?Savannah -- the one by the pool.

PS. I'm using a Verizon link and it works great!!

Hope you have a wonderful trip and get a room soon! Hope your daughter is doing ok now.

How neat to be checking in while still waiting for your room. DVC policy says checkin is "After 4pm" whatever that means?:confused3

Sorry to hear about your DD's fall. I hope she is still able to enjoy her vacation:wizard:

Looking forward to reading more.

We will be at AKV concierge June 5-12th:banana::banana:

Wow, I'm sorry that you had to begin your vacation with a trip to the ER. I hope things go smoothly and that you have a wonderful time.

Bobbi:goodvibes

I've been to the Celebration ER during a vacation, so I know it's not a fun way to start your vacation.

I hope you and your family have a great trip!

Sorry to hear your DD had to go to the ER :sad1:
Have a great vacation and keep us upgraded. Here's some pixiedust: for your DD

So sorry your vacation had to start that way. I hope your DD is doing better! Enjoy the rest of your vacation!! I am looking forward to reading more!!:)

Most (but not all) CM's just don't seem to be as 'cheerful' as they were 10 years ago or so. Every once in a while you can run into a real gem though; one who obviously loves their job and spreads joy everywhere they go. We try not to let the bad ones ruin our vacation although sometimes they can really leave a sour note in your head.

And then again maybe it is all in my imagination.......

I hope the rest of your vacation is wonderful and look forward to reading more of your reports!

oh no. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter.

Have a great trip.

Back again.

Thanks for all posts.

My post was not to complain. As you can read below, the morning actually went quite smoothly and God blessed us with an overall great trip. I was amazed how fast we got in and out of the ER and to the AKL by 1230. That includes breakfast, driving from Palm Coast and ER! We were helped by so many wonderful people.

We're in the room now, the drapes are open and it's dark outside. They lighting in the villa has a beautiful warm glow, which was very romantic against the cool colors of the evening outside. Things are quieter and I more time to think as I type. DD9 is asleep. Again on my Verizon wireless as the little card on the table next to me says HS Internet is $9.95 per 24 hours. Is there still a charge for that for DVC?

When I finished typing my first post I called again to find that our room was again NOT ready. DS 14 was bored and .. well .. bored, and most of you probably know what a bored 14 boy is like. My DD9 couldn't swim because of the stitches on her face or play in the playground (she gets real dirty because she always ends up playing in the dirt) and she was exhausted from her ER ordeal and stitches. More on Celebration Hospital later. So she was sitting in her wheelchair and really needed to be lying down. (She can walk, but we keep a chair for after her seizures and when she gets overtired.) I went back to the Registration Desk, where the line was still quite long. Since Kenzo had told me to ask HER specifically, that's what I did. I went straight over to her counter. She helped me right after finishing the guest she was working with. Checking the computer, she found that the room was STILL listed as not yet ready. She said she didn't believe it, so she went and checked on the room herself -- after she "took another guest to their room." Whatever that meant. I got the impression she actually either went to the room to check it or spoke directly with the housekeeper herself. I think she only did that because of my dtr's plight. She came back and immediately gave us the #, and I was very gratetful because DD was having more seizures than usual and she needed to lie down.

Now about Celebration -- I really like that ER, if any ER can be liked. While driving from Palm Coast I had prayed with the family that we would be in and out quickly and everything would go smoothly. There is a sign above the registration desk attiributing their caring attitude to Jesus. Our last injury was much more serious and she almost lost part of a finger. Fortunately, this was a fairly minor one, so we were seen almost immediately in the minor emergency area. She needed 6 stitches on her face and 2 inside her mouth. Since she doesn't understand well, we had to basically hold her down and I had to hold her jaw shut while they sewed up the inside of her lip. Holding a jaw shut is HARD. Before I knew it we were heading out the door! We were there only 1 1/2 hours!! I was amazed. And the MD and nurses were great. And it was only a few miles from AKV.

Our room on the Arusha Savannah is in excellent condition and very clean. I think one light bulb was out. We took the pak n play out of the front closet and the folded-up wheel chair fits nicely in there. There are lots of drawers and shelves in the master BR so all our stuff has a place. I like the wardrobe because it has a shelf that little kids can't reach.

DS14 and DD11 took the connected lock-off studio . It helps them feel more independent. DD9 is sleeping on the sofa in the living room.

I have to insert here that DD9 is SO cute and a really great kid. You should have seen how hard she was trying to do what was expected of her, even though she was terrified. In the ER everyone was amazed that I was telling them the truth about how good she would be. As we rolled her out in the wheelchair she spontaneously asked one of the nurses that held her down for a hug. And gave the other a big smile and "Thank you" when the nurse gave her a sprite.

We are used to having 7 in a 2BR, but DD20 and DS18 couldn't come due to their college courses, so now we only have 5 and the villa seems seems huge. I was hoping they'd be able to drive down later in the week, but I think DS18 who still lives at home enjoys being home alone almost as much. I told him he could drive the Solara convertible some if he wanted.

A word about room requests. I didn't make any because I didn't know what to request or what my priorities were. Thanks again to Kenzo, we are on the East -Southeast side of the Savannah. Right by the elevator to the first level and the pool. Another reason why I say that in spite of the injury, everything has gone remarkably smoothly.

As the sun set we watched two giraffe and 3 zebra cavorting and feeding below us. One giraffe reached down and picked up a branch from the ground , which is no small task for a giraffe. The other giraffe decided to "share" the branch, and between the two of them it fell to the ground. They both looked down at the branch, then at each other and walked away nonchalantly. After a bout a minute, when he thought the other giraffe wasn't watching, the first giraffe snuck over and made the effort to pick up the branch again. The second giraffe immediately turned around and began chasing him. After a minute or two, though, he gave up pursuit and left the first giraffe to his branch.

DD11 and DS 14 went to the pool for a while. DW is now sleeping.

We're supposed to have sunny and low 80's all week except 40% rain tommorow.

I planned heavily for the week:

Mon -- bfast at Bomas at 10
Tues -- relax, who really cares what we do
Wed -- relax, who really cares what we do
Thur -- relax, who really cares what we do
Fri -- bfast at Ohanas at 10 and dinner at Jikos at 7

I'm gonna make us stick strictly with this schedule. I assume we will fit some parks in there, but I'm not sure when.

For now, Jambo.

So sorry to hear about your dd, but glad to hear that you are in your room and things are going well. We've spent a lot of time at Florida Hospital Centra Care center (3 little ones) right outside of WDW and can definately relate, the urgent care/hospital is no fun on vacation but you do what you have to do;). Hope you have a great trip!! We will be at Kidani Village 5/27 - 6/4 and can hardly wait!

:goodvibes Sounds good!

So glad your daughter is okay....and really like your schedule for the week. :goodvibes

Thank goodness your DD is ok! You sound very calm for what you have had to deal with so far! I think a trip to the ER would have sent me over the edge. Bless you for your patience!

Looks like you have a nice, quiet trip planned. Enjoy AKV and a little R&R!

No charge for HS Internet for DVC stay. Just make sure you check your bill to verify they didn't put it on there. Since AKL is used for both DVC and non-DVC, the note is there. We had it in our room also over New Years, but didn't have any problems.

Glad you are happy with your stay so far. We love our home at AKV, and can't wait for our first stay at Kidani this summer. Sorry to hear about your DD's accident, but glad everything went smoothly at the hospital and with everything else.

Have a great time and look forward to reading more about your trip.

I'm glad you are in your room!!!

This happened to us one time at AKL (non-DVC). Check in is supposed to be 3:00. Right? We get there at 3:00 and the room isn't ready and I was like, but isn't check in at 3:00? She said yes, but it is only guaranteed by 5:00. I had never heard of such a thing either. Now I know it is the same for DVC checkins.

Have a wonderful trip!!

Sandra
