Just another sodding bad day

Every park has its ups and downs. You'll love it one day and then loathe it the next. What was your worst day at WDW? It can be anything from losing your wallet or coming during an "off peak" season only to find the rides totally full. I never really had a bad day so I was wondering if anyone else can interest me with their stories. Sorry, but I'm bored and typing this as I sit waiting for a three-hour meeting at work! :surfweb:

My worst day was when we were at the Magic Kingdom on the Saturday of the U.S.'s Columbus Day Weekend holiday. It's a three day weekend that most people get off from work and school around the country, but for some reason the state I lived in at the time never celebrated it.

So we were totally caught off guard when the Magic Kingdom almost reached *capacity*, on a supposedly "low season" October day.

It might have been manageable even given that, but both the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean went down for several hours from some computer problem, and my parents were traveling with us and insisted on going on coasters and stuff I couldn't bring my one year old on, so I was often left just sitting with my baby son waiting on other people, in shoulder to shoulder crowds. We would have hopped, but my cheapskate parents only bought a one park per day ticket, wouldn't spring for hoppers.

We tried to eat dinner at Columbia Harbor House and for some insane reason, they had closed the upstairs, and the downstairs was wall to wall people and trash and spilled ketchup and drinks on the floor.

At the end of the night, after the fireworks, the lines trying to get out of the park and onto the monorail or ferry to the TTC were an hour long in and of themselves.

The park staff were completely overwhelmed, and all in all that day just absolutely sucked.

That was the beginning of my Disney trip planning obsession! The next time we went to Disney together, they bought the tickets I told them to, and followed my well laid out trip plan, and we all had a much happier time. And I NEVER go to WDW on Columbus Day weekend, which is a shame, because it's my son's birthday, usually, but it's just not worth it.

It was the last day of our trip and we'd spent a wonderful morning in the Magic Kingdom. We returned to Pop Century for lunch in the food court before catching DME to the airport. A wonderful couple offered us their leftover counter service food credits (following us around, making sure we got drinks and desserts) and were just "paying" for our meal when my 3-yr-old son (who we thought was whiney because he was hungry) puked all over himself, the floor and me. After witnessing the carnage the generous couple fled as we hollered our thanks. I took DS to the bathroom and cleaned us both as best I could and then had to go to the luggage holding area and wait for them to retrieve our bags so we could change clothes (our LAST clean set.) DS seemed fine after that so we chalked up his illness to his 5 trips in a row on BTMRR.

Fast forward to our flight which included a layover in Atlanta and was delayed by bad weather in Atlanta. Just before landing DS vomited again AND had diarrhea in his pants that got EVERYWHERE!!! We ended up pitching his shoes, pants and stroller. DH and I cleaned ourselves the best we could and DS came home to freezing cold Illinois (January) in his 5-yr-old sister's pink shorts. At least our flight from Atlanta to Illinois and our hour car ride home were completely uneventful. He was fine the next day, so no idea what caused the V/D!

The good thing was that I was sooooooooo glad to be home I didn't have my usual post-Disney depression! Otherwise it was a perfect trip!

Wow, susykt4, you really win the prize. That must have been horrible. I was going to post about having money stolen from our room, but it really doesn't compare. I feel so bad for your little guy, and for you. I think that every parent can relate...
