Just Announced - Disney To Change MS

Thanks for the info. I only rode MS once, and I plan to keep it that way. :)

They just made an announcement on the local news. Starting the first of June, Disney will offer two ways to ride MS. You can ride with the spinning centrifuge or you can ride a stationary version of MS. They are suggesting that anyone with health issue ride the stationary version.

That is a great idea!!!! Thanks for sharing the news :)

This sounds perfect to me! Don't get me wrong, I'm a thrill ride junkie, but this ride was just too much for me! So, my dh, and my two ds's will go on the regular one, while me and my dd will go on the mild one...

But... you're actually looking forward to just sitting in the chair and watching the film? What's so special about sitting in a chair and watching the movie on the tiny little screen?

Yes....because I'm at Disney and I will get to experience it while my family that "likes" the ride enjoys it as well....Probably nothing special about watching a movie on a tiny little screen..but I'm at disney with my family and that is special enough:) Why knock it? If there are some that can't handle the ride (like me) then this is a great solution...it will still leave the regular attraction for the ones that really like it.

Thanks for the info Feralpeg.
I am kinda hoping they will start earlier than June. DH and I will be there at the end of May.

:woohoo: That makes my day !!! Now putting M:S on the schedule for June !!!
I have been dying to ride it (we are a "Space Camp veterans" family !) - but all the big kids got dizzy and/or sick on it - DD got such a bad headache she had to go back to the room and lay down - so I never used my baby swap option to ride. In June I'll still be recuping from surgery - DNeph (8) will be so happy to hear that we can ride together - he won't mind missing the lift off - we'll just be happy to see the queue and experience what we can !!! :woohoo:

Interesting. The only thing that got me with the ride was the tight space so I do not think stationary would help me out.

I am pretty sure the "Do they still serve peanuts?" remark was a joke...but just to absolutely sure...it was a joke right? Our daughter is deathly allergic to peanuts...but after my announcement about the tamer ride...she was excited to try it. I just want to be sure!

I'm glad we have experienced the attraction twice, but that's enough. I hope all those who try the stationary version enjoy the experience. :earsboy:

They just explained on the news how they will do this. MS has four large centrifuges. They can just shut down any one of them. The capsules where you sit also turn and shake. They will continue to do so. You will feel some effect, so those who are really prone to motion sickness could still feel something.

I think it's good that disney is accomidating people who couldn't originally ride but I don't see the point of wanting to ride w/o the spinning. I thought the whole point of the attraction is to simulate the feel of space travel. I would think the other way would just be a dissapointment.

I'm glad. I would never have been able to ride MS the other way. I will do the stationary version and at least get to experience part of the attraction.
I did ride the other way, I got very  had to go to the First Aid station to rest. I will try this new version should be better for me.

WOO-HOOO! This now solves my MS/DDP dilemma...I kept wondering how I was going to combine MS and all that great food on DDP, w/out getting sick...now I can have my cake and eat it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plus, let's face it, I was becomming a bit of a hypochondriac with my family...worrying that we were going to find out about someones undiagnosed condition AFTER riding.....

I went on it once and felt just awful. Now I am willing to give the calmer version a try. When you come home you can tell people you were on ms. You just don't have to tell them which version.

I may actually try it in September now!

For those of us that can't handle the centrifuges this is a great option. I can't wait until our trip in December now to check it out. It gives us a chance to at least experience part of what our friends & family rave about without being miserable during or afterwards. What does it matter to anyone else whether it is fun for me or not! To each his (or her) own.

This is great news - I was part of the "tear it down" camp after the last incident there, but now I'm happy that more people will have the chance to experience this attraction. I've never ridden M:S but was planning on riding when I go in November...now I'm not sure if I'll do the calm side, the spinning side, or both.

Fantastic. The first time I rode it, I had no problem at all. It was 9am, and the park had just opened. I went back at 2pm, and came out of it feeling the same sort of queasy off-kilter ickiness I have before a panic attack. (My anxiety has never been triggered by motion before, and I love the flippin' Gravitron!)

Gimme the non-spinny one.
