They just made an announcement on the local news. Starting the first of June, Disney will offer two ways to ride MS. You can ride with the spinning centrifuge or you can ride a stationary version of MS. They are suggesting that anyone with health issue ride the stationary version.

I think that's great news. What I wish they would have done is just make the whole thing less intense. This won't help people who don't know they have a problem. But a step in the right direction. Where did you hear about this?

That's great - that means people like my DMum (who gets travel sick) can still experience the ride! :thumbsup2

I liked it - but once a trip would be enough for me on that one! :teeth:

DD should meet the height requirement, but I think we'll take her on the non-centrifuge version as she'll only be 5 y.o. on our next trip! :goodvibes

I love the ride as it is, but I'm glad that people who cannot ride the ride will have a chance to see what it's like in a stationary view!

Thanks for the info! :thumbsup2

I live in Orlando. It was on the local news.

I'm glad. I would never have been able to ride MS the other way. I will do the stationary version and at least get to experience part of the attraction.

Here's a link to the story from local6.com. Looks like they will just be making some of the centrifuges stationary, seperating the queue lines and posting different warnings for each type.

Thank you so much for sharing. Hopefully this will help encourage people to take a safer route instead of risking their lives (and yes I know many did not realize they had a health condition, but i always say, when in doubt.. don't). Not to mention I can see this making the ride a bit cleaner too, I for one sat next to a lady who got very sick and definately felt sorry for the CMs after the ride who had to clean it up. Thank goodness for those baggies!!!

Yeah! Tara and I have never done it either. This will be great. (Martha who has not had the news on all day - is always the LAST to know this good stuff!)

How "tame" do you think the stationary one will be? Suitable for all family members or still intense?

If they are going to not run the centerfuge on some of them, then the ride will have no 'physical' intensity at all - except for the close quarters the ride puts you in. It will al be visual, with perhaps a little seat vibration at lift-off.

Interesting solution: I wonder what the ratio of spinning / non-spinning riders will be. My guess would be 3 to 1. Personally, I don't think I'd spend the time to ride the 'tamer' M:S.

Peggy, Thank you for sharing. Maybe now we will be able to ride. We did not in the past due to my DH aortic valve situation. We will have to see what the restrictions are for the stationary experience.

Also, I have PM'd you Peg. :sunny:

Stationary should be no more intense than watching an awesome movie. The intensity was all from the centrifuge.

I'm glad too, Ferelpeg... I'd love to see it again but it was a bit intense for my taste.

I'm honestly surprised people are actually interested in a non-spinning one. Without the centerfuge, it's like watching a movie on a screen 12 inches from your face. There's just no real "experience" there. I just don't get it.

I think I saw somewhere once that if you are experiencing a ride and its not moving (for example Body Wars or Star Tours) your mind gets all screwed up. It makes you want to think you are moving but you aren't, which leads you to get motion sickness anyways.

I'm happy.
I have not ridden it because I was sure to get sick and this was not one we felt comfortable putting youngest DD (who is disabled) on.
Now we'll all be able to ride.

This is good news for my ears! I have only been on M:S once and I think it was two years ago. I remember when I got off the ride I felt a bit quesy from both the force and the excitement. I have been afraid to ride on it again, since I was so close to getting sick on our last ride. Now I will be able to ride it again without being afraid of getting sick. Thank you for posting!! :thumbsup2

I'm not sure how I feel. It's better news then closing it down...but I wonder how this change will affect the line(s). Which line will be longer? The old version or the 'new' version?

I can't imagine riding it without that feeling of actually going into outerspace but I'm happy for those who couldn't handle it the regular way.

Will be anxious to see how all that goes in June and how people respond to it. My DH has been on it and enjoys it but myself and the DS's will not go on it because of the spinning. I may consider it now after the reviews next month.

This sounds perfect to me! Don't get me wrong, I'm a thrill ride junkie, but this ride was just too much for me! So, my dh, and my two ds's will go on the regular one, while me and my dd will go on the mild one...
