Just an update regarding bringing in outside food

i dont see why they wont allow coolers at least in the lockers..or even the outside the park lockers? that is just crazy that they turn them away at the security check point!

"Coolers larger than 6-pack sized are not permitted into the theme parks."

There are lockers back in the picnic area, which is BEFORE the bag check on the DTD side. Of course, how someone from the Harbor side is going to get through bag check to get to them I don't know...

" * Note: Guest can store coolers up to 18" wide x 25" high x 37" deep in picnic lockers located outside the Disneyland Park Main Entrance. Lockers are not refrigerated and availability is limited. Guests who need to refrigerate medication may do so at First Aid.
* Exceptions may be made for special dietary or religious needs."

DASANI is owned by coca-cola bumpershoot.. of course it's expensive!!!!!

I know that...the point was that it is local, filtered water, which is EXACTLY what comes out of the drinking fountains there.

I've been trying to get entirely away from fluoride (I'm very sensitive to it in a bad way, and I don't believe that industrial waste should be added to water when it's not been proven to do a single thing for our teeth), so I'd been researching bottled waters (until I found that my city has two non-fluoridated wells that I can fill up at for free...a month into that experiment and I feel SO GOOD!) and found that out about Dasani.

Unless things have changed in the last month, you can bring sandwiches in without any problems. The issue with the family you saw is that it is against park rules to bring in fixings for sandwiches. There is no issue with sandwiches. So - if you have a loaf of bread, a container of mayonnaise, onions, a head of lettuce, a tomato, and some cheese, they will not allow it in and will direct you to the picnic area to make and enjoy your sandwich. However, if you bring a cheese sandwiches with mayo, lettuce, onions, and tomato on it in a baggie in your backpack, they do not care.

Exactly!

Hmm, that is a strange and interesting distinction. Trying to figure out the 'logic' behind that.

Glass jars of mayo?

not permitted: "Glass containers, with the exception of baby food containers, medicine or small perfume bottles (under 4 oz)."

We almost always bring in some sandwiches and healthy snacks. Not because we can't afford what DLR offers, but because we choose to eat some healthier things to balance out the mostly unhealthy things that are offered there. When we feed our kids carrots, celery, friut, homemade sandwiches and stuff for lunch and make sure they get plenty of water, we don't feel bad at all for them to have cheeseburgers and fries (or chicken nuggets) for almost every dinner. It works for us and we don't feel bad about it at all. We spend plenty of money on other things at DLR when we go.

Yep!

We bring in safe-for-DS PB&J sandwiches (bread and jelly are the big difficulties with what he can't have, especially at a place that uses smuckers jelly and corn syrupy Uncrustables), as I mentioned before granola and protein bars, etc.

We also eat at Disneyland's restaurants!

Most treats there are off limits b/c of the corn syrup problem as well as being vegetarian (we'll never have a Tigger Tail, for instance), so if we want snacks beyond the seemingly-safe (but they changed the recipe) chocolate chip cookies but do NOT want a chocolate dipped banana (the only safe frozen thing from the carts) or one of the safe ice creams at Haagen Dasz, we gotta pack it in. :)

I see nothing on the list prohibiting food. There could be another spot to look, though.

Interestingly....also on the list of prohibited items? "Strollers larger than 36" x 52"", and look at this non-adult-including bit: "Costumes on Guests older than age 9, except during special events that permit children up to age 12 to wear costumes."

But still no food.

And if I could I would sooo do it! total tailgate on the grass near the castle complete with a keg!!!

……..Who wants a flet minon with blue cheese before fireworks? :lmao:

LOL!!! That reminds me of a show I watched where they went to the Superbowl and Tailgating was banned from the superbowl parking lots!!! :scared1:

Yeah, the rules say nothing about no being allowed to bring in food. Obviously Disney is okay with that. My guess is that they want everyone to feel like they can afford the trip - whether that means eating every meal at DLR or bringing theirs in.

On another note, my favorite no-no is: Cremated remains (e.g., urns, vases, boxes) :rotfl:

Someone has HAD to have tried that for it to get put on the prohibited items list. I would have loved to witness that! (but that would be pretty cool to have your ashes spread around DL....ahhhh to join the spat out gum, dropped snacks, and other gross-ness on the ground. ;)

Last summer, I was sitting at the Tomorrowland Terrace (behind the Jedi Training Academy show) waiting for my family to come off Autopia. A group came and sat down at the next table with a soft-sided cooler. It wasn't huge but definitely bigger than six-pack sized. They proceeded to pull out Tupperware containers full of spaghetti, mashed potatoes, vegetables, rice, etc. as well as forks and bottles of water. They each picked a container and ate from it for a few minutes. Then they would rotate containers so everyone got something new. They did this for a few rotations until everyone had eaten their fill from each container. It was rather interesting but seemed to do the job of feeding everyone lunch. And apparently their containers were allowed into the park. They didn't heat anything. They just ate it all cold and seemed to be happy!

Back in 2007 they had to shut down POTC because some woman was seen pouring a substance in the water.... The sad part is that they flush the water every 6 months or so and that persons ashes probably now reside in the Anaheim sewer system!

There are a surprisingly high number of known cases of people scattering remains in Disneyland. I have read many reports of this on line over the years.

The case CrazyDuck quoted is one. There is another case on PotC where a woman sprinkled remains throughout many scenes of the ride. If I remember the article correctly, HEPA had to be called in. The Haunted Mansion is apparently a popular place for this, as (I guess) makes sense :confused3, it's a small world has reportedly been a place for people to do this, and the Rivers of America is another.

I remember reading that it IS illegal and in cases where people have asked Disney for permission, it has been denied.

I don't understand the idea behind cremation, but the idea of those someone leaves behind trying to spread ashes in an amusement park is just bizarre to me.

Oh my! I guess it doesn't surprise me, but why people think they will be able to get away with it is beyond me. :goodvibes

I'm not sure what the law says but I know CA does have one about getting permits to spread ashes. My mother in law wanted her ashes spread out at a camping area she used to take my husband and his brother and sister. We asked the place once we got her ashes back and we were told there is a law about that and we were told we needed a permit but they were really hard to get.

Next time you think about bringing food with you, consider the places where it is not allowed and how much you want to push Disney until they are restricting it as well.

They are being nice or polite as it is. The government is not and look at the list of things you can not fly with. This is the end result of people pushing the limit.

Of Yeah I want to add next time I go I will be wearing a falcons shirt and pokes hat so that good teams are represented from the Mountain West or WAC as it were.

We took our kids to DL in March 09. It was the first trip in many years, as my dh and I hadn't gone since we were teens. I checked the website for rules regarding outside food and remember reading that it said NO. Our oldest daughter has severe disabilities and issues with some foods so I packed a few snacks and certain type of drink (just enough for her for the day) and figured we'd be able to find variety in meals. When we went through bag check I pointed out the food to the CM and explained why she needed it and the CM said, No problem, you can bring in anything you want. I was a little annoyed that the website hadn't said that because it would have been nice to be prepared with snacks for all of us. We went to WDW in April of this year and I brought snacks for everyone, and the CMs at each park had no problem with it at all.

I try to feed both my kids healthy items, and I do like to save money, but the biggest reason for me to bring items in with me is to save TIME. Little kids want to eat every 30 minutes. There is no way I'm standing in a line that often to get something for them when we could be having fun! :yay:

Ooh well in that case.. ….

Next weekend I am bringing my dead dogs ashes to spread in potc, then I will have a small get together on the grass outside the castle, I will be grilling lobster tails and kabobs on the hibachi grill I will be bringing in to the parl—hey they didn’t say no grill!

I totally know you're joking, but it actually does prohibit camping equipment...and I would say that a grill falls under it.

"Sporting goods or equipment (e.g., baseball bats, helmets, hockey sticks, golf clubs, bows and arrows, camping equipment, chairs, stools, tables and Frisbees)"

In addition, no "Miscellaneous other items (tools, fire extinguishers, musical instruments, megaphones, pots and pans)"

And it does state that you canNOT bring "Cremated remains (e.g., urns, vases, boxes)". :)

They are pretty thorough!
