Just a vent on my Delta experience this weekend

try Southwest Airlines next time! Lots of non-stops to MCO from just about everywhere.
Not from the western part of the US they don't...I had a similiar experience as the OP with SW and will never fly them again. Each airline has their problems I guess....Flying from Boise we are actually lucky to only have 1 stop in SLC and I always worry about that connection. Most trips to Orlando from here have 2 connections and with Southwest 3 or more. No way for me and kids!

The rep. was a Middle Eastern man, and he seethed with contempt because I was doing all the talking while my husband stood by silently. If he can't set aside a cultural (or maybe it was just personal) belief that women should be seen and not heard, Delta should not have him in a customer service position.
That is awful!! No one should be treated like that especially in the US, good for you for making the supervisor aware.
I'd don feathers and fly myself before I'd try Delta again.
LOL that is funny, and how I feel about Southwest! LOL

I used to love to fly but that's changed. In the past few years everytime I fly something happens, lost luggages, but mostly delayed flights.

I went to Washington on business in Oct 04. We had a direct flight. Our flight was delayed coming home by 3 hours. Why, they said it was because they didn't have a flight crew to fly the plane. We had to wait for a crew to come in from Philly to fly us to Manchester, NH. That was USAir. I already disliked them because of 2 other incidents so that pretty much confirmed I would not fly with US Air again.

In January my daughter, husband and I flew Delta from Manchester, NH to Orlando, Fl with a stop in Atlanta. The stop in Atlanta was supposed to be approx. 1 hour. It turned into 3 hours so we didn't get into Orlando until midnight. Again, they used the same excuse....no crew to fly the plane.

On the return flight we were stuck in the crowds due to the winter blizzard. We expected delays and we didn't blame anyone because weather happens.

However, we didn't expect to get screwed by Delta. We were given the choice to either stay in Orlando (my choice) or fly to Cinncinati and then catch the next available from there to Manchester. My husband's thought was that we would be that much closer to home the next day. So, the 3 of us were off to Cinncinati, OH. We were told we were rescheduled on a 2:30 pm flight the next day. We arrive in Cinncinati, stayed the night and got to the airport by 11am to check in.

Upon check in they informed us that our 2:30pm flight was delayed because of the wind in NH. Ok, that was fine when can we expect to go home? They have us scheduled on a plane for 7pm that evening. She hands us some tickets but says she can't give us boarding passes because the system won't issue them until 5 hours before the flight. Meanwhile the woman at the desk is chatting with her friend and neglected to tell us that we should get our boarding passes as soon as possible as they can give them away if we don't. We thought we were guanteed a seat on the 7pm flight.

So, we find the playarea and remain there all day with a 3.5 year old.

One hour before the flight we proceed to the gate to check in. I was told we weren't scheduled for the 7pm flight that day but the 7pm flight the next day! I was extremely upset. They gave our tickets away! The woman behind the desk knew it. I asked for her supervisor and she said that the supervisor was on the way down so I stood there. I don't think she expected me to wait and I think it was a bluff to get me to go sit down. Anyway, she whispers to me that she has 3 seats on a flight to Providence, RI and did I want them? We took them.

When we got to Providence we had to rent a car. Mind you, Providence got dumped on big time and the airport was dead. I was surprised to find 1 car rental company open.

When we finally got to Manchester my husband said he wanted to go inside to see if our luggage had arrived. Sure enough, it was there. That confirmed that they gave our tickets away. Maybe it was our fault because we didn't get our tickets around the 5 hour mark but how were we supposed to know. It's not like we have blizzards that close down the whole north east everyday! They could have tried paging us or something before issuing our tickets to someone else.

The delays ended up costing us an additional $600. We decided we like traveling in our motorhome.

I fly Delta and other airlines just about every week. What you are posting about Delta could just as easily be posted about NW, AA (my airline of last resort), CO etc....

We all want $200 tickets, but $1,000 service. I hate to say this, but Americans have made a choice, cheap over service. Those airlines who tried to charge more and give great service have not survived. Even AA who was doing the "more room throughout coach" program gave up, they are putting in more seats and taking away the extra room and why? we won't pay for more room.

SW does a good job, but if you get a weather delay on them expect the exact same treatment (trust me, I have seen lots of folks sleeping in the Nashville airport LOL!)

Finally word of wisdom. Weather delays happen, things happen, everbody want to take a connection and save $$$$$$ Direct, connection, train, bus, car, delays happen. You need to understand the airline make no extra money by having to put you on another flight.

Saying that the plane could wait another 10 minutes for you is not correct. If the airport had weather related delays and the aircraft is cleared to push back from the gate and they choose to stay put they lose there place in line, and depending on the destination maybe the opportunity to take off. To answer the next question NO I do not work for an airline, nor does any of my family of friends. Delay cancellations and stuff are lousy, but must be expected .
