Just a silly little TR - Run Away!!

Quote "CP's mom, great news for your daughter. Much better than Disney"

Thanks Marita, it was a difficult decision because she really hoped for a career with Disney but we told her Disney will always be there.

Ponzi, you can't pass up this offer and if the car gets too crowded I have an unused camper I am willing to donate. Someone just has to come pick it up ;)

everything will be alright in the end and if it isn't alright, then it isn't the end.

Sounds great Marita! I don't like the outdoors, but I do like road trips! I have to warn you though, I rock at the Alphabet game.

Yellowstone is kind of my nightmare. Do you have an E-Reader? That would be my saving grace. Seriously though, enjoy your vacation!

Shannon, I'll have my laptop (and free WI-Fi at the hotel), I'm bringing "The Help" and "50 Shades" to read, and hubby has an E-Reader if I get really desperate. As long as I have those and a bar at the hotel, I'll be fine ;)

You mean bad as in really poorly written right?

everything will be alright in the end and if it isn't alright, then it isn't the end.

Looks like I've got some catching up to do... and I'll do it in the morning. Just got back from watching fireworks with Kay. We had a terrific Canada Day. Had a bunch of neighbors over for a dip in the pool and snicky snacks and pop (regular or wobbly... depending on age, of course) during the day then fireworks at night.

HAPPY CANADA DAY to all the other Canuckleheads out there!

Does everyone know what time it is?

No. Not Tool Time (That was such a hot show for a while... then. Nothing.)

It's shout out time!

Wow the Dis now has an App for that!! cool. Maybe I won't get kicked off every time I try to load a page full of gorgeous pictures of Hawaii! Great couple of chapters Ponzi. Been so busy around hear I just haven't had the time to keep current on my Dissing

Elle has a Macbook. We just got Kay an iPod touch... I wonder if the parental units will ever get something for themselves???

App for that? I ain't got nothing to put apps on!

You need a down day on vacation, otherwise you'll need a vacation from your vacation when you get home from vacation.

I tend to go, go, go on vacations... unless I'm forced to see reason. Which happened that day. Thank goodness!

Aulani looks spectacular. A co-worker of mine just got married there a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't invited. Looks like it was lovely tho.

So would that be co-worker and now ex-friend?

Gotta admit, I was really blown away by Aulani... and that is not an easy thing to do.

Pineapple jam and peanut butter, sounds gooooood, might have to try that. Whadda ya think about pineapple jam and macadamia nut butter?

Well, having tried neither pineapple jam (Mom don't share her jam with no one!) nor macadamia nut butter... I don't really have an informed opinion.

But I'd sure be willing to give it a go!!

Loved the song Parody ! You have a talent!!

Whoa! That's not me, that's Thumper_Man's song. The clue there was 'talent'. Not a word that would normally apply to me.

Little bit of good news/bad news here, my daughter who is a seasonal entertainment cast member with Disney got her first real world job as a producer for the morning show on Fox here in Phoenix, that means she will probably not be able to fulfill her minimum commitment of hours in order to keep her status with Disney. On one hand I couldn't be more proud of her but on the other hand it is going to be awfully tough saying good-bye to all the bennies. It was a tough division for her to make but it was the right decision.

Well congrats to your DD on her first 'real world job'... and my condolences to you on the loss of the freebies.

I actully considered the horseback riding, till hubby told me it was 2 hours. Sorry, I'm not up for 2 hours....

It was definitely at the outer edge of time for us. I think Elle and Kay were fine, but I know I was pretty stiff and getting a little sore after about an hour and a half. It it was one hour, I'd say almost anyone could do it, two hours... you could probably do it, but might regret it afterwards for a couple of hours.

On second thought, since I will be in your neck of the woods anyway, I could just skip Yellowstone and go north for the week and go shopping with Ruby and eat your cookies.... ;)

Sure, I'll be... ummm... wait. When was this again? I'm taking Elle to Dance World Cup in Montreal next week... other than that though, we're home.

Sounds like a fun road trip. I bet Ruby would be thrilled to see us :)

That would be funny.

"Hi! Your husband invited all of us over!"
"Ummm.... okay.... Dear? There's a car full of women here to see you?"

:lmao:

Let's see what I can get out before the heat up here beats me to a pulp again:

Did I mention that we have central air? Oh, I'm sorry, was that insensitive of me? :rolleyes1

You're gonna talk about a bang in your trippy? Chatty Chatty Bang Bang?

I was thinking more "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang"... but I didn't want to give you the wrong idea.

Now that would scare me,, I think all the others combined might be cheaper than a Hawaiin souvenier shop.

Nah. Hawaii is very inexpensive. Everything is almost free. Didn't I mention that earlier?

Must've slipped my disc.

Mind.

If fI say I'm in total agreement with her when it comes to roughing it, do I have to turn in my Man card? Ever since I shared a sleeping bag with 500 Daddy Long Legs,,,,,for those of you counting,, that's 4000 Long Legs! With another 2000 spiders at least crawling on the inside of the tent. This was on a Girl Scouts outing,,, yes, you heard right,,, and no,,, don't ask.

Girl Scouts? Hang on, the FBI wants your address, just gotta dig it out of my PMs.... don't go anywhere, I'll be right back.

...

...

Just out of curiosity, has anyone knocked on your door in the last minute or so?

No? Just keep waiting.

As for roughing it... A couple of years ago, Ruby and I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas hotel.
Way more money than we should pay, but it was a very special occasion.

Now I'm so spoiled, no other hotel can live up to it.

Don't you hate it when they leave that left turn signal on? You just know it's been on since Bermuda!

Wasn't it George Carlin that had a schtick about that? "He's going left around the world."

It was fun writing it though, wasn't it? Believe me, I know what it's like when you don't have anything,,, that's why I was so fortunate that trip last year threw everything at us,,, man,, hurricanes, tropical storms,, tornados,, blowouts,,, I mean really,, how lucky can you get? I even got to name a character metaphorically, the Beast.

I have to admit, that on day one with all the bad stuff that was happening, all I could think of was, "Oh, that'll be good for the TR."

I've always wanted to be a Henchman.

Yes, and you'll notice that in the story, the henchman is left alone? Didn't want to deprive everyone of another Nebo TR.

that sounds really bizzare and very strange and unhealthy and I would have been ALL OVER IT!

Next time... if there is a next time. The loco moco is on the list of things to try.

I always say, you can't go wrong with blue,, so that's why when you came out of the plane's restroom your face was,,,,,

Huston, the nickel has dropped.

pkondz said:
That makes sense doesn’t it?

I'm sorry, I dozed off,, what does?

Where?

I'm beginning to think that your version of "all hell breaking loose" is when the cable goes out!

You try to stay calm when the cable goes out just as they're about to announce the winner of Toddlers & Tiaras!

so,, in translation, you are saying that the name is Deliciouslicious Dogs? Kind of like a PIN Number? And yes, you are correct,, this is WHY I don't have many friends.

That's not the only reason.

And I thought of it as Ono-Ono which translates to Oh, no! Oh, no!

That must have been pretty difficult,, finding a stretch of sand on a Hawaian beach.

I know you're just trying to be funny (keyword: trying) But Waikiki beach (which is actually several separate beaches) is very busy... and on Friday nights near the Hilton... finding a stretch is not that simple. We got there early so it wasn't too big a deal. But people who came later, couldn't find a place to set out a towel or blanket.

No, I thought I mentioned that Smidgy was here with me.
I'm probably over doing this again, aren't I?

Hmmm... over doing Smidgy as a drunken hula girl? I don't know, you tell me. Are you sleeping on the couch?

I love the picture,, um,, but what exactly does it represent?

Kidding aside, it was just the whole, sun going down, surfer dudes and dudettes coming off the waves, the whole Hawaiian slowed down culture, relax, play in the sand, childhood innocence... all rolled into one picture.

I dunno... I just look at that picture and I want to be there.

Yeah,, now that' s the way a vacation day should end!!!

Hey! Don't rush me! I got one more day!

Sorry.

I hate when vacays end.

Aw, really? Now I'm bummed. No, I'm sorry,, this is noat allowed,, it was supposed to be her 16th birthday present if I remember correctly,, and you cannot renege on that. Hey, she got in a shark cage for you!

I know! I know! We asked her though, "Given a choice, if you could do Hawaii now or Disney on your birthday, which would you pick?"

It wasn't even a close decision.

Stay at Pop,, no hopper passes, no water parks,, you can go cheap, We'll drive down and meet you, you can use the car to go and pick up groceries,, you won't even need to rent a car,, magical depress will transport you. Ok,, so you don' t eat well for a while. This is why God made Ramen noodles. Talk to me kid,, TALK TO ME!

Honestly, the money's not the biggest issue here. Well it is, and it isn't. Yeah, we could probably swing it if we did like you suggest. Heck we've DONE exactly that. But throw in another $5,000 for airfare... No, that's not a typo... Five THOUSAND dollars for airfare. And that's the killer right there. We could drive down. It takes three looooong days to get there... and the same going back. Which leaves two days for Disney. That's insane.

Not to mention it'd be peak season resort rates plus 4 adult MYW passes plus meals....

And that, in a nutshell, is the problem.

I don't know how he could possibly pass on this deal!! Come on Pkondz, you can do it!!

Nebo might be on to something Ponz...

You heard him, Ponzi! I could get you some souveniers with 35% off.
See, getting cheaper all the time.

See above. But thanks for the support, folks. :goodvibes

I have a terrible craving for a loco moco!!! why does that sound good to me?

I have no idea! I wonder where that could've come from? :confused3

uh oh, now nebo is going to want me to make it at home.. hmm, how hard could it be?

It doesn't sound too hard, does it? But I hear it's all in the gravy.

Laura, what do you mean, you'll go through Illinois and pick up Shannon and continue on?? what am I, chopped chicken livers??? (always wanted to say that)

Uh, oh! Cat fight!
catfight.gif

See above... but thanks, Laura.

Ponzi, you can't pass up this offer and if the car gets too crowded I have an unused camper I am willing to donate. Someone just has to come pick it up ;)

Nope. Ruby would never willingly get in a camper. Didn't I expain the whole 'roughing it' thing?

I'm sorry buckaroo,, but with you I am not through.

(crap, how did Dr. Suess get in here again?)

We are only a one day drive from Winnipeg,,, then,,, after you leave your car here, for 4 people to fly to Orlando from O'hare,,, on the worst case scenario,,, it will cost 1200,,, that is a savings right there of 3800.
You'll park in the driveway,,,I'll give you the key code,, then you go inside and call a cab,,,, with tip,,,to O'hare it costs 60 bucks and 4 hours later you are in Orlando,, hopefully we have not run into the wratth of God again and we'll still be there with the car for you to get supplies.

Let's do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I'm sitting in the airport again. This time the Ottawa airport, though. I had high hopes a week ago when I got here.

Just about the time you wrote this, I was sitting in a long weekend traffic jam on the 417 in Ottawa AGAIN! Why is it that on the Friday of the long weekend, there is NO traffic in morning rush. Everyone stays home to get an early start, right? So WHY then do they all wait until 4 or 5 o'clock to leave town? Sheesh!!!

Oh, one more rant. When driving with a 3000 lb. trailer behind you and trying to keep a safe braking distance between you and the car in front, why does EVERYONE seem to take that as an invitation to cut in front and then slam on their brakes? I do more panic braking with a trailer than I ever do without!!

Here endeth the rant. Hope you got home in time for a wonderful Canada Day weekend!

Gonna take in some museums, check out the market, do some restaurants, blah, blah, blah.

Did maybe a fraction.

I guess after being stuck at work all day long, I just couldn't get up the desire to see or do much in my off hours.

We do have a lot to do here in the nation's capital. But FWIW, I've lived here for 40ish years, and still haven't done it all. That's a lot of days without getting up the desire...

Today, I left early, clambered into the car and went downtown. Saw Parliament Hill, Supreme Court, Civilisation Museum, Chateau Laurier. Parked the car and had 30 that's three zero minutes to explore. Popped into Chateau Laurier to see the Yousuf Karsh photos there. If you don't know who that is, he was a well known photographer. Trust me, you've seen his work. His most famous was an iconic photo of Winston Churchill... it was there.

Okay, done all that except Supreme Courthouse

Popped over to the market, scarfed down a beaver tail :cloud9: and sashayed around for a bit.

Now that's worth doing, but we gallivant about in the market, sashaying is reserved for the Sparks St. Mall.

I did manage to get to The Works for dinner one night. Tried the rings (they were good), the poutine (I don't eat enough to judge, but they were okay by me), and had a burger with sauteed mushrooms, chipotle mayo, gouda cheese & 3 onoin rings... my verdict? While the burger was very good, I'd still go for a VJs special in Winnipeg. There were plenty of other combinations to chose from, so I can't say whether The Works is the best or not. Based on the one burger I had... a cut above the rest, but not the best. But who knows, next time I'll try a different combination and I may change my mind. :)

And in case you're wondering... I never came close to eating it all. :rotfl:

I was wondering about that. There's enough calories packed in there to feed a third world family for a month! Don't recall you looking big enough to eat all that in the pictures!! I've actually never tried their poutine; that's something that is reserved for certain road-side stands across the bridge on da odder side dere...

I'm okay with you not thinking it was the best. Everyone has their own tastes and preferences - it would be a very boring world of restaurants if we all liked exactly the same things!

Really sorry to see the loss of the ticker. Hope you find a way to make it soon; we'll be thinking of you when we get down there in March. Okay, well I'll be thinking of you - the rest of my crew aren't on Disboards and only have a vague idea of what a "Ponzi" or a "Nebo and Smidgy" are...

Thanks Ponzi! Sounds like you had fun! We had a great time broasting at Fitzroy Provincial Park - much better to be hot in the woods with the beach at hand than hotter in the city. Missed the fireworks though - not allowed in the parks and had a partial burn ban on.

I'll get a jump on things and wish our neighbors to the south a
HAPPY 4TH
for tomorrow!!

I'm sorry buckaroo,, but with you I am not through.

Aw, Nebo. You're the sweetest!

C'mon Ponzi!

Here he comes to save the day............... Nebo to the rescue!

Yay!

Let's do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You heard Elle, Ponzi!

Busy, busy, busy, busy.... Got lots to catch up with... and hopefully get to work on the next chapter some time.

I'm sorry buckaroo,, but with you I am not through.

(crap, how did Dr. Suess get in here again?)

Through the door? On the floor? No more!

Ok, now don't you think you are being just a little bit difficult?

Difficult is my middle name... Just ask Ruby. She'll tell you.

For sure though, we will not be going when we hoped next March. Maybe if we're lucky, in the summer... but who knows.

And yes, I have thought of flying out of Chicago. Actually last time we flew out of Minneapolis and saved a couple grand...

We'll see.

Sheesh!!!

Oddly enough, all those people were wondering the same thing about you!

When I drove to WDW with a friend 235 years ago, I got so ticked at all the drivers who insisted on cutting in front of me and then braking. Drove me nuts!

Here endeth the rant. Hope you got home in time for a wonderful Canada Day weekend!

I did. And it was great!

I was wondering about that. There's enough calories packed in there to feed a third world family for a month! Don't recall you looking big enough to eat all that in the pictures!! That's true. Otherwise we'd all be eating soylent green.

Yeah, good luck explaining that. "Okay, there's this Nebo. His real name's Steve but nobody calls him that. And there's a pkondz but people call him ponzi and I don't know what his actual name is. And they're friends of mine. No I've never met them. Um. Look! Squirrel!"

Hope everyone had a happy 4th! :goodvibes

Finally, she gets some time to spend and enjoy! I guess if you have to work Hawaii is the place to do it tho:thumbsup2

Nice purse story....:lmao: You keep us on our toes thats for sure!

Rainbow Drive In....I'm sure that was featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives on the Food Network! I could be wrong but it sure looks familiar and since we've never been to Hawaii that's the only place I can think that I would have seen it!

I love the pics once again...:goodvibes

I was going to suggest Minneapolis. You must be pretty close, sitting as you are up there above Faiar-go, NorDakota.

:rotfl2:great song Thumper man.:cool2: And now it is stuck in my head. (not as bad as the figment song tho... )
Ponzi it seems that Nebo has it figured out for ya. And I believe there is even a cook book for all those ramen noodles that a bunch of starving college kids did a few years back to help you out.
Nebo does have a point I mean sh did get into the the shark infested waters for you. (secret aaaaagent man secret aaaggennt man thanks thumper man)
But seriously ponzi I hear ya on the airfare. It is brutal from out here in So Cal can't imagine from the great white north.
(odds are he won't live to see tomorrow... sorry still there.)

Finally, she gets some time to spend and enjoy! I guess if you have to work Hawaii is the place to do it tho:thumbsup2

Rumour has it, you can relax there too. But I wouldn't know about that.

Nice purse story....:lmao: You keep us on our toes thats for sure!

I just figured that things were going to be a little dull... and we can't have that, now, can we?

Rainbow Drive In....I'm sure that was featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives on the Food Network! I could be wrong but it sure looks familiar and since we've never been to Hawaii that's the only place I can think that I would have seen it!

Thanks Jacquie. And you're right, Rainbow Drive In was on DDD. And for those who want to see it, here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2jEaMjjKOM

I was going to suggest Minneapolis. You must be pretty close, sitting as you are up there above Faiar-go, NorDakota.

Ayup. Still not cheap though. You've got to multiply everything by four, of course, too.

Ponzi it seems that Nebo has it figured out for ya. And I believe there is even a cook book for all those ramen noodles that a bunch of starving college kids did a few years back to help you out.

Yeah, but like I said. It's still a schwack 'o cash when you factor in four people. But I'll keep crunching the numbers. But for sure it won't be spring break like we hoped.

Nebo does have a point I mean sh did get into the the shark infested waters for you. (secret aaaaagent man secret aaaggennt man thanks thumper man)
But seriously ponzi I hear ya on the airfare. It is brutal from out here in So Cal can't imagine from the great white north.

That is a great song, isn't it? :lmao:

I LOVe watching Triple D!! and now that I watched it agan, I think I remember that episode!! loco moco yummy!
