Just a silly little TR - Run Away!!

The nerve of some people! Welcome back!

Thanks! and I know...I couldn't believe it either. I mean, I don't ask for much, just a nice comfy chair, and an expensive computer to READ at...now WORK at...

Thanks for that Mrs. T. I'm going to have to see if I can find the song on youtube. I don't have a gun, so I'm going to have to think of something else...

As long as the concept is behind it, you can fill in the blank with almost anything...knife, golf club, Bat...
5.gif

Oh, that would make a good TR. Just make it all up, it could be the greatest TR ever!

:lmao: Don't count it out...if and that's a big IF, i do a TR on our upcoming trip to DL and WDW, they could get very interesting. Either that or I will be taking lots of notes throughout the trip.

Bus ride? Sounds like a story that needs to be told.

I'll let T-Man tell the story, because obviously if I told my version, there never was a bus...or a taxi...:confused3

Welcome back to Mr. and Mrs. T :flower3:

:hug:Aww...Thanks! Good to be back. Work has been so hectic lately, it's cutting into my Dis time...So not cool.

One of these days, you will remember the bus ride. When we go in December, we'll take the exact same bus ride again and see if that helps you remember.

Sure...The trip was back in '06...I'll start remembering just in time to forget that I need to remember.

I haven't had a Wunderbar in years. Do they even still make 'em??

Apparently WE do. Cadbury only makes Wunderbar for Canada and Germany, and it is the Starbar in the UK. We have them in the candy machine down the hall here at work.

You saw... you... saw... you... you... saw... them!

Yes, and it seems like someone might be willing to barter for Wunderbars. Perhaps you should stock up before your next trip...

Ugh! I know! I'm catching up as quick as I can! Darn stomach virus/food poisoning/whatever the heck it was...

Just so long as you are catching UP and not just catching...

Bus ride? Sounds like a story that needs to be told.

Let's see if I can remember all the details. Our first trip to Orlando back in July of '06 (when we were engaged) Lady H, my sister and of course yours truly T-Man, went to the Fraternal Order of Eagles International Grand Convention. This is a yearly convention for the FOE and this particular year it was taking place at Coronado Springs Resort. We were staying off-site, so we would have to drive to CSR to attend the convention. The convention usually takes place for 4 days (Monday thru Thursday), Thursday night being the last night.

Ok. Before I get to the bus rides, I need to give just a few more details about how the Eagles conventions work. The Eagles separate the 50 states into different regions. I’m not exactly sure how they separate Canada. Sorry Ponzi. Next Grand Convention I get to go to, I’ll see how they separate Canada. Won’t be this year, but maybe next year. Anyways; being from New Mexico and New Mexico being one of the Four Corner States in the U.S.A, our region naturally is the 4 Corners Region. Each region will usually rent an additional hotel room or two, and have what’s called a hospitality room. This is where free food and alcoholic beverages come in. Each day of the convention, each state in our region takes a turn running the hospitality room and will usually try to provide food and drinks specific to their region. So New Mexico being close to Mexico, expect some type of Spanish food and Tequila on their day.

Now that you know a little about the convention and how it works, the date was Wednesday, July 19 2006; the day after Lady H’s birthday. We started the day out at MK, took an afternoon break to go to the convention for a little while. Decided we wanted to hit the hospitality room for a little while since today was New Mexico’s turn. We had a 4pm ADR for Planet Hollywood. We got to the convention some time in the afternoon. I want to say around 1 pm or so. Took us a while to find the hospitality room. I swear I needed dodo to find the room. Didn’t realize how big CSR was until we went in search of the hospitality room. After walking in the 90 degree heat and 100% humidity, we crawl on our hands and knees and finally get to the NM hospitality room. Ok. We didn’t exactly crawl, but it was that hot. We see a few friends, say hi, hugs, kisses and head straight for the make shift bar. Now those of you that have ever partied in a hotel room, with lots of people and lots of beer; where do you keep the beer if you don’t have a large cooler? In the bathtub right covered in ice, right. My sister had never seen this, she thought that was one of the coolest ideas ever. So we each grab a beer and almost drink all of it in one drink, and then we repeated the process to rehydrate ourselves. During the time we were in the hospitality room is when we decided to take a bus to DTD. During this time is when I say Lady H had more to drink than what she’s telling me, because it is now time to head down to the bus stop.

We ask a CM where we catch the bus and they point us in the right direction. Now you’ve heard all the horror stories about waiting.........................................................................................
and waiting…………………………………………………………………………………………………………… and waiting for a bus to arrive. This was us. We head down to bus stop close to 3pm. This is our first ride ever on Disney’s Transportation. Figured the ADR is at 4, gives us an hour to get there. Should be plenty of time, especially since a bus comes every 20-30 minutes or so. First bus comes and it’s for AK. Next bus, Epcot. Then MGM. AK again, Epcot again, on and on and on. 30 minutes have passed and still no DTD bus. Did I mention it was 90 degrees and 100% humidity outside? This and alcohol don’t mix really well. Finally an hour later, a bus to take us to Downtown Disney comes. We board, he pulls out and then he stops. Hmm. Why are we stopped? Something happen to the bus? Nope, seems we are going to cruise around CSR. I didn’t realize there were 2 more stops. Apparently he had to wait until the bus ahead pulls out before he can pull in. We finally finish cruising around CSR and think, well we’re only be about a half hour late.

On the road again, just can’t wait on the road again; hey wasn’t that the downtown exit we just passed? Is there a different way to get there that I don’t know about? Must be a short cut. Or not. This bus actually is now going to make stops at OKW and Saratoga. We were an hour and a half late for our ADR. After this day, I vowed never to ride the busses at WDW again. Good thing is PH wasn’t really that busy at the time, so they were able to still get us a table. After we finished eating and drinking some more, we took a taxi back to; no not CSR, but to MK. We wanted to see Spectromagic and Wishes. We missed Spectromagic and caught the ending of Wishes. We were some of the first out of MK and were still at the mercy of at least one more bus ride. It was easier to catch a bus going back to CSR then one to Downtown, but at least it took us straight to CSR. Needless to say, Lady H don’t remember taking the bus, or a taxi. She does remember going to PH and to the convention. In December, we’ll think about taking that tour again. As I stated earlier; I vowed we would never ride the bus again, and we haven’t. Just might have and see if that sparks her memory. Still wondering what she drank though that she don’t remember. D’Sis and I remember it well.

There are rules, you know. Are you willing to cultivate the accent? And when you say something derogatory or gossipy about someone, you must end the statement with "Bless his/her heart." (the latter is not so much a Louisiana thing... more in the Carolinas, but I'm trying to promote it here in the Gulf South. It's so snooty and fun.)

Now, raise your right hand and repeat after me. Ah, insert your name here, being of southern mind, do swea - ah to drawl my way through e-vah-ry word of e-vah-ry sentence for as looonnnnggg as Ah shall live, or until Ah am not feeling as southern as Ah am today.

Oh Sandy, your post is so funny!! :rotfl2:

I'm a Carolina girl myself and I have to agree that the "bless your heart" saying is said pretty frequently around here and it is always, always laden with sarcasm. I have said it to Nebo on more than one occasion! ;)

I love your post Sandy! Thanks for the laughs!! :thumbsup2

Got it. You equate me with headaches. Check. Please continue...

Ack! Ack! Pardon me, I'm choking on the words you put in my mouth! ;)

My advice? If they fall in... just let 'em go.

Yeah, that was the conclusion I came up with as well. Sink or swim children, sink or swim!

So glad I could be of help...

Yep, I already have a vivid imagination......thanks for making it ultra neon colored.

I haven't had a Wunderbar in years. Do they even still make 'em??

Oh yes......yes they do!! :goodvibes

You saw... you... saw... you... you... saw... them!

I sure did, just for you! ;)

That's pretty funny. :rotfl: And of course you would think of me as a great wordsmith. 'cause I use words good.

Yes siree, you done do good work writing up them chapters evary tiume.

I must admit, that in this age of texting and tweeting, I've seen some very dim examples of young shining lights. :sad2:

Same here, sigh.

Actually, the party went really well. All thanks to Ruby and Elle. None to me. I was just eye candy.

Well, someone had to fulfill the role of eye candy.

Ugh! I know! I'm catching up as quick as I can! Darn stomach virus/food poisoning/whatever the heck it was...

Good grief! That stomach bug was pretty powerful to leap off the TR and infect you. Sorry you were hit with it, but I'm glad you are on the mend!!!

Apparently WE do. Cadbury only makes Wunderbar for Canada and Germany, and it is the Starbar in the UK. We have them in the candy machine down the hall here at work.

Yum-o! Seriously, Wunderbars are terrific!! ;)

Yes, and it seems like someone might be willing to barter for Wunderbars. Perhaps you should stock up before your next trip...

Yes, remember I live on the way to WDW. We can set up a trade anytime. I am so sad I forgot to pick up a few bars. :sad1:

For Wunderbars, I might just be willing to make a special trip to WDW just for you Pkondz. I could ship you zebra domes overnight in dry ice. ;)

Ok..after T-man saw my post, I was corrected on the park DoDo took us to. Evidently it was Universal Studios not SeaWorld. This is why I haven't done a TR and am skeptical about doing one, since I seem to remember things way off the mark from the way they really happened, sometimes not remembering things at all...:headache:

This reminds me of one Disney tip that I am really glad I took. Mousesavers has a "POI" file (that's Points of Interest, not a tasty Hawaiian treat) that you can load onto your GPS. I know they have Garmin, and I am pretty sure there is one for TomTom too. This file REALLY works. It "knows" the best routes to all the parks. Our best proof was USO; using Garmin's own logic it took us to the front entrance with lots of traffic and really long wait for the left turn into the resort. Using the POI file from the same starting point, it whisked us down a back route right up to the parking garage entrance. No lights, no turns, no lines. Total saving in travel time was about 20 minutes. Note: you have to remember to select your park from the POI function on the GPS, if you just type the park name it uses the default logic. Highly recommended.

Bat? I can threaten someone with a flying rodent?

I like it.

:lmao: Don't count it out...if and that's a big IF, i do a TR on our upcoming trip to DL and WDW, they could get very interesting. Either that or I will be taking lots of notes throughout the trip.

Now waiting for a Mrs. T TR.

Oh, oh.

Apparently WE do. Cadbury only makes Wunderbar for Canada and Germany, and it is the Starbar in the UK. We have them in the candy machine down the hall here at work.

Huh. Haven't seen 'em for a while. Guess I'll have to look a little harder. :confused3

Yes, and it seems like someone might be willing to barter for Wunderbars. Perhaps you should stock up before your next trip...

Hmmm.....

Just so long as you are catching UP and not just catching...

Yeah, NOW you tell me!

Let's see if I can remember all the details...

:lmao: That's quite the story! Thanks for that.

Got it. You equate me with headaches. Check. Please continue...

Ack! Ack! Pardon me, I'm choking on the words you put in my mouth!

Heimlich maneuver anyone?

You saw... you... saw... you... you... saw... them!

I sure did, just for you!

:faint:

Good grief! That stomach bug was pretty powerful to leap off the TR and infect you. Sorry you were hit with it, but I'm glad you are on the mend!!!

Yes, I'm blaming you actually. You didn't think I was going to take responsibility, did you???

For Wunderbars, I might just be willing to make a special trip to WDW just for you Pkondz. I could ship you zebra domes overnight in dry ice. ;)[/COLOR]

Well, Nebo PMd his address to me and got a little surprise... PM me your address and you just never know.

This reminds me of one Disney tip that I am really glad I took. Mousesavers has a "POI" file (that's Points of Interest, not a tasty Hawaiian treat) that you can load onto your GPS. Interesting. Thanks for the info. Of course since Betty went back to Costco, I won't be availing myself. But others will.

Hey, BTW. I'm going to be in Ottawa next week. Any suggestions on where to get a good burger?

Climbing to Aulani (part I)

I’ve got too many pictures… so this is going to be split into three (three!) sections.

Thursday April 19 comes bright and early… ummm…

Thursday April 19 comes early.

Before lights out the night before, Elle reminded me at least twice, “Dad make sure you wake me up when you get up.”

She was convinced… convinced that I was going to go by myself.

Hiking.

Up Diamond Head.

Okay?

I was going to go by myself if nobody wanted to come along, but Elle had made it quite clear, “Make sure you wake me up when you get up.”

Okay! Okay!

I don’t remember what time I was going to get up that morning, but I do know that Ruby was going to be up before me, to get ready for work.

Does that just sound weird to you? Hawaii and work?

Does to me.

Ruby gets up whenever she gets up, and I wake up sometime before the alarm was to go off. Ruby’s staying in the bathroom area so the light doesn’t wake the rest of us up.

I wander over to say good morning and chat a bit.

We hear a thumping sound coming from the bedroom… or is it just the main room. What do you call the room where the bed is when there’s no other room? You walk into a hotel room and to the left or right is the bathroom and straight ahead is the… room-room? It’s not the living room… there’s a bed in the middle of it! A bedroom seems to imply a separate room, no?

The thumping noise is followed by some scrabbling sounds… and a knock on the door. I open the door and standing there is Elle.

Dressed, out of breath, with eyes the size of saucers.

“You were supposed to wake me!!!” she says with obvious distress.

“Ummm… honey? We aren’t leaving for a while yet.”

Well, at least I won’t have to wait for her to get ready, right?

Okay, I don’t know where this goes so I’m throwing it in now.
A couple of chapters ago, I had mentioned that Kay finally got her Vanilla Bean that she’d been waiting for. She actually started to look for a Starbucks back at the Winnipeg airport… We finally found one on the windward coast.

When you leave through the front door of our building, you could turn left to the beach or go straight ahead to parking and shops. We’d buy drinks or muffins or chips… that sort of thing… over there.

If you turned right, all that was there were more hotel buildings.

Or so I thought. I had seen that there was a business center and post office in that direction and since somebody forced me to send them a package, I had to go there.

Which is when I discovered that right around the corner from our front door… about 40 steps away… was a convenience store… with everything we needed.

And a Starbucks right beside it.

Elle and I pile into the car and head off to Diamond Head.
We’ve got a hike in front of us!

Above us.

Here’s a comparison. Most people know that Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world. It’s a shade over 29,000 ft. Some people know that K2 is the second highest at about 28,250 ft.
The highest peak in North America is Mt. Mckinley at 20,320 ft.

Diamond Head is an extinct volcano which towers over Honolulu at an amazing 27,500 ft!!

And Elle and I scaled it! Without portable oxygen tanks, too.

Well, not quite 27,500 ft… if you take off the first and last digit, it’s a little bit more accurate. That still leaves 750 feet to climb!!!

Oh and the parking lot is 190 feet up.

That still leaves 560 feet of mountain! Straight up!

Except you don’t climb it straight up. There’s a trail that switchbacks up the hill. And a couple of gently sloping tunnels. And some stairs for the steep parts.

But still! It was an arduous trek that no mere mortal should attempt!

With the possible exception of the family of four with the 4 and 6 year old kids… or the lady with the stroller… or the Japanese ladies with their high heels.

But other than that!

Pretty intense.
smiley-vault-misc-164.gif

We arrive in the parking lot and pay (again) the $5 fee. This time we each have a water bottle with us, so no instances of attempted murder at the Sanskrit cuneiform menu fun truck.

With hopes high we set out!

Forgot sun-screen. Hang on.

<apply> <apply> <apply>

With some hope we set out!

Hang on. I need my sunglasses.

With… oh let’s just go.

Here’s a couple of shots of the trail leading up. It starts off paved but then changes to gravel.

P1000210.jpg

P1000211.jpg

There are signs posted warning/begging people to stay on the trail. Seems there’s concern about premature erosion. (oh, go ahead) Of course everytime there’s a youngster off leash, he’s gotta be scrabbling up and down the mountain off the trail. But it’s okay. ‘Cause every parent knows that those signs don’t apply to their precious little darlings.

The trail is about a mile in length, and as mentioned 560 feet in height. Nearing the top there are 74 steps of stairs and a tunnel.

P1000230.jpg

After the tunnel there are another 99 steps of stairs and a second tunnel.

P1000229.jpg

After that there’s a spiral staircase which ends at a bunker that you have to crawl through to get out of. Then it’s a few more stairs and you’re finally at the top.
1lg090yodel.gif

I wanted to go up here for the view. Whaddya think, was it worth it?

city1.jpg

The walk down was uneventful. And a lot easier. I greatly enjoyed seeing out of shape people gasping for breath as they toiled up the trail.

Passing one fellow about my age I grumbled to Elle, “I can’t believe we went all that way only to find out that it’s closed.”

He chuckled and remarked, “Nice try.”

:headache: Darn!

Continued next post…

Climbing to Aulani (part II)

… continued from previous post.

We headed back to the hotel, picked up Kay and were off to….

Drum roll please
drumroll.gif

Aulani.

All over the world, in countries great and small, a small handful of people are saying:

“It’s about freaking TIME!!!!!”

Aulani is on Oahu’s West (Leeward) Coast. I don’t remember exactly but it was about a 45 minute drive to Aulani. We get there… and I don’t have a clue where I’m supposed to park. There’s a parking lot with a sign that says it’s for hotel guests only, room key required, and… that’s it. I guess visitors are walk up only. Or maybe they discourage visitors.

They want guests but not visitors.

Check.

I pull up to the valet drop-off and ask where I can park. I risk telling him that I’m not staying at the resort; just looking, thanks.

The valet tells me that I can park in the holy parking lot. “Just ignore the sign. There’s a 10 minute grace period that’s free and you can pay with a credit card after that.”

We park and stroll towards the front entrance. I tell the brats to hold on a second and jog back down the driveway. I want a typical shot of what you’d see on the approach to the hotel.

P1000232.jpg

Heading back up I take a quick snap of some of the landscaping out front.

P1000233.jpg

We continue up the drive and the front entrance comes into view.

P1000235.jpg

We haven’t even gone in yet and this hotel is really impressing me. What’s also impressing me is that I really don’t have to write anything intelligible anymore for this chapter. Just keep plugging in the pictures and nobody’ll notice anything you say.

Here’s the front entrance as viewed from the outside. Notice the fine Corinthian leather and the sleek lines.

P1000237.jpg

A panoramic shot of the interior lobby. Notice Elle and Kay on the left. Don’t they look like they are really enjoying waiting for their Dad to hurry up and take the d^#% picture already!

lobbypano.jpg

This is the chandelier above the lobby. Below it was this neat little bit of Disney magic. If you stood in the middle of the lobby, you could hear a droplet of water fall and hit the ground. I have no idea where the speakers for this were, must’ve been an acoustic thing. After a while, a tile on the floor would light up in a pattern. I don’t recall for sure what it was, but I think it was a letter W (for Walt) or M (for Mickey). I’m not sure what the orientation was supposed to be.

Maybe both.

No, I didn’t get a shot of it. Boy! You people are so demanding.

“Didja get a picture of it? How ‘bout that? How ‘bout this?”

I’M ON VACATION.

Any way. Here’s the chandelier. Sheesh.

P1000244.jpg

From the lobby, there are hallways leading off to the left and right with little nooks and details here and there.

P1000256.jpg

P1000254.jpg

This next shot is down the hall a bit, (go into the lobby, turn left, walk about 75’, turn around). I like the art on the wall to the right. It’s a game table with people sitting around it. The gift shop is (I believe) the first shop on the right.

P1000296.jpg

Back in the lobby, if you walk straight from the front entrance you come out to a terrace overlooking the resort grounds. Right about now your eye has already skipped down to the next shot and anything I say is pretty much inconsequential.

Continued next post…

Climbing to Aulani (part III)

… continued from previous post.

We headed down onto the grounds and looked around. There’s a lazy river which looked really inviting. Both girls were on me like a dog on ice cream….

“Daddy, why didn’t we stay here?”
“Why couldn’t we stay here, instead?”
“Why can’t we stay here, instead of where we’re staying now?”
“Can we stay here?”
“Can we move here?”
“Can we come back and stay here, next time?”

It was then that I drowned them both in the lazy river. I think it was justified, but the judge thought differently.

Oh! You’re still reading and not just looking at the pretty pictures? Congrats! You’re the only one!

And no, I didn’t drown them.

I figured some CM would come along and tell me they needed wrist bands or something.

Or worse, a yellow jacket might sting me. :rolleyes1:

P1000260.jpg

P1000265.jpg

P1000290.jpg

Around this time, we noticed that there were a few people gathered around this dude. Elle wanted a picture with him too.

P1000259.jpg

She was fortunate because when we showed up, Mickey was just about to leave… and be replaced with:

P1000262.jpg

It’s only after I got back home and reviewed the pictures that I noticed Minny is flashing a “hang 10” hand symbol.

No shots of Kay with the mice, though. She’s too old and sophisticated… hmm… lets change that to too old and a rebel to be photographed with oversized plush toys. Here she is waiting for her older sister to grow up… :lmao: Doesn’t her look just scream “Puh-lease, Dad. Really?”

P1000261.jpg

Typical of Disney, as we walked along, we’d see new things. We spotted a small kids playground and a refreshment stand (with shave ice on the menu… we didn’t have any though.) There was also a fair size salt water swimming area. There was a viewing area for it that we found.

P1000267.jpg

The main pool area:

poolpano.jpg

P1000272.jpg

Past the pool area you continue for a bit to the entrance to the beach.

P1000273.jpg

At some point though, we had to stop. We came to a gate that would only open with (I assume) a room key. Whatever it was, the gate would open only if you spoke the magic words or waved a magic Disney wand. The upshot is, we could’ve gotten out but then would’ve had to wait for someone to unlock the gate before we’d be able to return.

Yeah, we easily could’ve jumped the piddly little gate, but then explaining to the burly security guard what we were doing might’ve been problematic. I settled for a picture from our vantage point.

beachpano.jpg

Which isn’t the greatest shot, so I took another from a better vantage area.

beach2pano.jpg

And this is the shot back towards the resort from about the same spot.

Untitled_Panorama1.jpg

By now we’ve seen pretty much everything there was to see… and I was starting to feel a little weird. I don’t know if it was because I was an interloper here, “Hey! You! What are you doing here? You don’t belong!” or because I wanted to stay here. (I hate it when my kids are smarter than me.) But it was time to go.

On the way out I grabbed a shot of the bar. Hmmm… maybe I should’ve grabbed a shot at the bar.

P1000286.jpg

We get back to the car and exit the parking lot. Yup. No problem getting out… unless you consider the $10 parking fee for being there less than an hour. :headache:

We head back to Honolulu. Our next stop is Chinatown. I’d read quite a bit about Chinatown and was really looking forward to it. I’ve always had a fascination with Chinese and Japanese cultures and was really looking forward to this. But first we needed to eat.

We went to a place called Little Village Noodle House. It had a bunch of good reviews… and boy was it good! We had sweet & sour shrimp, seafood with noodles & veggies, potstickers and spring rolls.

Dang that was good. Among some of the best Chinese food I’ve had… and I’m very fussy when it comes to Chinese food.

One of the reasons we came to Chinatown was because I’d read that it was the place to go on the Island (if not the whole state) for leis. Specifically, I’d read that Cindy’s Lei & Flower Shoppe was one of the better ones.

I let each horrible child pick out a lei for themselves (within reason!! Those things can get pricey!) I don’t remember the price comparison, but I saw ones elsewhere that were not as nice and astronomically more expensive, so I believe I made the right call.

Here are the evil children with their leis. And no, I don’t need any smartbutt (stole your word, Laura) puns about my underage children and how I got them lei’d in Hawaii, thankyouverymuch.

P1000299.jpg

The rest of Chinatown though was pretty much a bust. We found an area where you could buy cheap trinkets… and that’s just what they were… cheap trinkets. We had no desire to get anything. I had a walking tour in one of the guidebooks… which I’d of course left back at the hotel. I’m sure we missed stuff… but by then we’d had enough of touring anyway.

It was nice to see flowers on a lot of the street corners, though.

P1000301.jpg

P1000304.jpg

And we did see some of the women (as far as I could tell… it’s only women that do this) making leis by hand. Apparently it’s been this way for generations… and things aren’t likely to change anytime soon.

P1000302.jpg

Back at the hotel, I dropped the daughters of doom off. I had one more thing I wanted to do today. Well… two, but I’ll only mention one.

I’d heard that one of the best things to eat in Honolulu were malasadas at Leonard’s bakery. It’s a Portuguese bakery that’s been around since 1952. Famous for their malasadas, people line up out the door for them. A malasada is like a sugar doughnut… without the hole.

P1000306.jpg

You place your order and they run to the back to fill the box with freshly made malasadas .

P1000307.jpg

The verdict? Mixed. I tried one right away and… oh man. They were really good. But… by the time I got ‘em back to the hotel… and the girls (all three of ‘em) showed up…. They were pretty, well, ordinary.

Lesson learned. Eat ‘em while they’re hot, folks!

Afterwards, we relaxed, had some pizza from the hotel pizza place and called it a night.

Th-Th-Th- That's All Folks!

Finally caught up...You can see how productive I'm being today at work...;)

Just have to comment on a few things...

The moment I read this, I thought of the country song "Cleaning this gun" by Rodney Adkins, I've told T-man would be his song if we ever had a girl, and now can totally see you in this roll after reading about your family. The lyrics are below.

The Declaration of Independence
Think I could tell you that first sentence
But then I’m lost

I can't begin to count the theories
I've had pounded in my head
That I forgot

I don't remember all that Spanish
Or the Gettysburg address
But there is one speech from high school
I'll never forget

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Ain’t it son?
Hey y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Bet I’ll be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Well now that I’m a father
I’m scared to death one day my daughter
Is gonna find
That teenage boy I used to be
That seems to have just one thing on his mind

She’s growin' up so fast
It won't be long before
I’ll have to put the fear of god into
Some kid at the door

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all go out and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Now it's all for show
Ain’t nobody gonna get hurt
It’s just a daddy thing
And hey, believe me, man it works

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all run along and have a little fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Son, now y'all buckle up and have her back by te- let's say about nine...thirty.
Drive safe.

You know I've heard that song and the funny thing is as a single mom you wouldn't think I could strike fear in the hearts of men (or wanna be men in this case) but I did find out from my DD that she always told them they didn't want to poke mamma bear to hard with a stick in the event that she took it away and beat them senseless with it. :lmao: The absolutely hilarious thing is that I never give off that impression (at least to my knowledge). When they were around I was always welcoming and charming but that must have scared them even more because they thought there was some kind of crazy beast lurking just below the surface. :scared:

Great update! I loved seeing all the pictures of Aulani! It looks beautiful! :)

Thanks Dawn... and it was! :)

Super update, you didn't disappoint!! Aulani looks amazing, that beach is something I could seriously spend HOURS on and not look back!! And that pool is fantastic!!

I love the pics of the leis---I'm a florist and on occasion we'll get a special order for some leis---either for a wedding or a party or something, they're fun to make, definitely worth the money they're charging! Lots of blooms, lots of labor!! We typically charge by the stem we use (5-6 blooms for orchids per stem) plus 25% of the material charge for labor, give or take.

Thanks for the update!! By the way, I'm really feeling sorry for Ruby, you and the girls are having so much fun, seeing so much and doing so much, please tell me she gets in on some of the fun eventually?!??

~~Dawn

Hey, BTW. I'm going to be in Ottawa next week. Any suggestions on where to get a good burger?

You can't ask a question like that and THEN post an update... How am I supposed to answer?:confused3

Yes, I do!;)

There, I "might" give you more details after I read the update...

Oh Sandy, your post is so funny!! :rotfl2:

I'm a Carolina girl myself and I have to agree that the "bless your heart" saying is said pretty frequently around here and it is always, always laden with sarcasm. I have said it to Nebo on more than one occasion! ;)

Another Carolina girl here-I love it when it is said dripping with sarcasm ;)

It seems that work is getting in the way of keeping up on trip reports for a lot of people. Do you think that our bosses are on another board figuring out ways to keep us busy????

Ponzi-great update. The resort looks beautiful. Hopefully we will be able to go when Chloe gets old enough that we won't want to jump out of the plane after 10 hours with her ;).

Ok...I know you're not going to believe this but I just can't find the right words to describe your pictures of Aulani! I am in awe and I want to go there right now! Here's hoping I win the early bird on the HSC Lottery tomorrow:thumbsup2 If so, you know where we'll be!
