Just a quick question

My family and I have decided to join DVC SSR. After long discussions and number crunching we know that we will need about 425 pts. 4 children ( 15, 13, 11, and 8), my wife, and myself. We like to stay at least 10 days and we will likely go no more than one time per year. My question is do you think it would be better to by the points as 150 initial and just add the rest on immediately or buy the 425 together? It would seem the reason to buy seperately is based on resell and while I find this as a highly unlikely thing to happen for us ( we are all Disney nuts ) you never know. So any input would be appreciated. We will not be financing if that is important in your advice. Thanks

What you imply about resale possibilities in the future is true--generally speaking, it's easier to sell smaller contracts than larger ones. . .not that it stopped us from buying 400 a couple of years ago, mind you! Just as a hedge against the possibility of having to unload a point-laden contract at a later date seems to indicate the minimum first followed by an add-on. At first glance, I can't see any significant drawbacks to that plan, either. Others may disagree, however.

If you are planning on buying 425 now - you can buy them now and split up the points - as long as your initial contract is 150 points.

With the current promotion for existing members...Why not buy 275 points, and as soon as you get that contract signed, add on another 150 and get the two free annual passes. I THINK that is possible. Others here will likely know for sure.

When I purchased at the BCV, I wanted 200 points and had the contracts written up for 150 points and another for 50, thinking about resale down the road. (I have no plans to sell, but one never knows what the future holds.) Disney did not have a problem with this at all!

I would definately split up the contract. I wish I did. 425 points is a large contract and if anything should happen that you could not afford the maintenance fees, or as your children grow up and you need less points(studio instead of 2 bdrm, value season instead of dream) you could sell off one of the contracts.

You may want to consider starting with a smaller contract for a little while to get a better feel how many points you really need. We purchased 300 for typically 7-9 night every 2 out of 3 year trip. I think we purchased just a little to many. You could buy 200 and then add on in a year or so. Also there may be other DVC's announced that you may want as that second contract. Or you may find VWL is really your resort of choice and you just need points there for Christmas time!

with 4 children and all ( we are all Disney nuts ) you say ,this is what I would do. this way you can leave your children each a contract if you wish to do so. by buying at SSR (the 1st of the DVC-2 resorts) any new resorts they build should be included in DVC- 2 group.

424 total - when you add-on (and you will) start another contract for your 4 child. If you do it this way the 2 add-on of 137 pts should get you 2 annual passes for each contract. But you should ask your guide if you can do it like this.

If you can afford all now, I think Dianes is a good way to go.
