Just A Little Warning About Target & Price Mistakes

As the manager of a store (not Target), let me give my two cents worth.

Any given Customer Service Clerk is most likely to do whatever they feel is the least hassle (for themselves) at any given time, unless a store enforces a strict policy covering the transaction. This explains the varied experiences in the same type of stores. Unfortunately, as a Manager, I can't always ensure that every single transaction is handled precisely as I wish.

As to the credit showing up immediately versus being delayed a few days, this is usually related to whether the transaction gets "batched" before the second transaction takes place. "Batching" is the process of sending the information to the processing company for payment/credit. Some register systems do this immediately, some every few hours, and some only at the end of the day.

If the sale and credit both take place within the same batch, there will be no delay in crediting the account.

I hope this helps a bit. :)

Oh, please, that was rude and the smiley doesn't help anything!

I'll be the first to admit that yes, there are some times right after I've paid bills and just before we get paid that there can be very little in our account. That doesn't make me or anyone else a shopaholic! I have been trying to pay everything off, so as soon as there's money, I send more towards my debt, so there isn't much in our checking acct. I hardly think $55 would get her that title anyway! I think it is a nice heads up, because if it was day before payday and she was short the extra amount, it would cost me $40 in overdraft fees!

Not that I am defending disneefamily5, but the OP is the one that called herself a shopaholic in one of her posts.

they couldn't do anything. !
That's a lie.

(No need to go back and read the thread, I'll summarize it. It had to do with charging interest on a credit card because the payments fell short of the total balance but not short of what the total balance minus disputed charges would have been.)

Disputes should be in writing.

If something rings up wrong and you catch it before the order is totalled, you might refuse to hand over money or card until the error is fixed on the spot. This eliminates the problem of being charged twice.

Any time this has happened to me at Target I have been able to return the ONE item and repurchase it at the correct price. Furthermore if I have used debit I have been given the option of getting cash back instead of the credit to my card. All they have had to do is scan the barcode on the reciept, return the single item and ring it up again at the discounted price. That whole thing is totally ridiculous.

Wow - didn't mean to hurt any feelings :scared1: That was just my first thought when I read the post. I didn't get why the big deal over $55, knowing it would be reversed. Sorry if it came across as rude. I'll leave the smiley out so I don't offend anyone with that either. I just didn't see what all the fuss was about and the poor Target employee took the blame.
