Just a little rant about a player owned quest---

Ok, I've done a few of the player owned quests since the quest engine came out, and I decided to go try one that's been on the popular room list since at least yesterday. I go to this quest room - Virtual Disney World Quests - and note there are four quests to choose from. I check each out, check out all the neat coffin teleporters, and decide that the Adventureland quest sounds fun! I start the quest, make a few mistakes and have to backtrack, but all is fun so far. So, I'm about 30 minutes into this quest, including time just nosing around the room, and I finally get to the very last quest task, when NO NO NO!

The picture on the task shows somebody performing inferno, and asks you to do "magic feet like this" which is, in fact, inferno. Woops. I spent all this time in this room and on this quest, and since I am not one of the few who actually owns inferno, I don't finish it. Rats! I went back to this quest start room to be sure I didn't miss anything, and nowhere does it warn that you will need inferno to finish the Adventureland quest.

Edit: I am now in this room and am asking about the last task, when some of the owner's "friends" get very "unfriendly" with me. I had posed a question to the room asking about the last task in the Adventureland quest, and I explain how the last task is impossible without inferno, according to the task picture. After a few back and forth observations, a "friend" says, oh no, the owner wouldn't require inferno -- you just need to dance. Huh? Ok, then why does the picture show a person doing inferno? Again some more back and forth between "friends" and me, and a "friend" says, "maybe I should log on the owner's account and boot you."

Nice!

I did the same quest the other day- and when that picture popped up- I probably felt same as you did- but said- well- "he didn't say I needed inferno- so let me try just dancing" and it worked. But yeah I was a little worried and disappointed at first- but it all worked out in the end...

Did you try dancing before the quest ended?

Now as far as rude friends- I can't help you on that one- but I'm sure Tampa/Ranch would take care of it if he knew it was a problem.

I know how you feel, I tried some of those quests but got really frustrated at the full rooms of chair mazes and such.

Here's some food for thought: if you wrote the friends name down you could report him... You are not supposed to share your personal or account information with anyone and whether or not the owner did; the friend shouldn't be saying that he can do that. That is clearly against VMK values. :teeth:

Hmm, maybe being the logical thinker that I am (lol), when the picture showed a person performing inferno, and the task wording stated something to the effect of "perform these magic feet," I didn't think of just doing a dance. So, no, I didn't try dancing. I just stopped the quest. Isn't dancing just a category under emotes, and when did it become a "magic?"

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a good challenge and I have completed all of the current official vmk quests. But this was just a dead end, in my opinion, and I'm sure it's disappointed/skunked many others too.

As far as the rude people, yea, it's a shame, but you see all kinds on vmk. All I was trying to do was point out the issue when I asked the owner's friends if they had actually seen the last task.

I didn't mention the owner's name in my post, but if he sees this thread and wants to PM me, I'd be glad to share what happened privately.

Lauralee,

That was me in his room - and I am sorry if you feel I was "unfriendly" - It's just that I tried to explain to you - MULTIPLE - times that Inferno was not needed to complete the task, and yet you continued to rant.

Frankly, I was tired of trying to explain something to someone who was not receptive to my help. That is it in a nutshell.

His room is quite busy, and you sitting in the lobby crying while people were trying to help was not only annoying, but preventing people who wanted and needed to get back into that room from in fact getting back in.

I am sure Tampa will back me up on this... Sorry you feel I was unfriendly - but perhaps you should try to be a little more receptive of people trying to help you...

Dizpinfriend - (note my title has the word "friend" in it) Not a coincidence!!

The task in questions reada something like:

"Now To Show You're A Winner Of The Virtual Adventureland Quest.. You Gotta Show Us Those Fun Key Feet!"

Maybe the inferno usage in the pic might have been over the top, but I'm definitily not going to say, "Ok, now dance.." It's a cheesy riddle, in which if peeps couldn't figure it out and ultimately, quit the quest, then I'd say that's a victory for the quest woo woo! lol.. and btw, a task that required inferno would be the worse idea I've ever seen.

And I can't apologize enough if anyone I knew was rude to anyone else. Alot of them know the fusturations I go through sometimes and they can be real protective and really short fused sometimes. Lobby sitting can do that to a peep.. anyways.. thanks to all who've come to play.. congratulations to all the winners who've won, and I'll see yall in vmk.

:thumbsup2

The staff-created online quests had questions much more cryptic than Ranch's! If it weren't for the answers here, I would still be looking for the "bones" on the pictured Tom Sawyer Island, that were actually in the Hidden Temple (spoiler hidden)!

Anybody who is willing to give me, a total stranger, a Wanted Poster for free has the right to make me jump through hoops for it. It's still better than last weekend when I waited in line, in the Florida heat, for the Buzz Lightyear kiddie attraction (all the while remembering how much better Eastern Airlines' If You Had Wings was) and paid $12 for a photo that I didn't want, just to get that same poster!

Actually, Ranch's quests wouldn't even be that long if VMK wasn't crashing every 10 minutes! Thanks, Ranch, for having put the effort into your quests!

P.S. If you want a simpler quest (with correspondingly simpler prizes), GrapeWillow has a nice fun one. It's much shorter, if you're the impatient type, and just gives you Narnia stuff, but it has a fun little story to it. :)

Maybe an easy way to fix this is to say in the Quest information that you do not need inferno.

As far as people being rude that isn't called for but I can say from experience that saying the same thing over and over and over can really be challenging.

Okay (lol) -- I sure didn't sit in there - crying - because that is, in fact, not my style and is not what happened.

I came back to the start room, after I quit the quest, to see if there was a sign that said we needed inferno to finish the Adventureland quest.

I asked if anybody had seen such a sign. Then several people identified themselves as the owner's friends, and they told me that I didn't need inferno -- I just had to dance to finish the last task.

I asked the friends if they had actually seen the last task. I pointed out that the last task appeared to indicate we need inferno by: 1) showing a picture of the guy performing inferno, and 2) the wording indicating "perform these magic feet."

Again, the friends told me to just dance -- even though I hadn't asked what the solution actually was. Okay, the solution was to just dance.

It was after the second "just dance" comment from the friends when the next comment arose about one of them logging on as the owner and booting me. Hmm, I believe the entire conversation consisted of no more than maybe five or six comments back and forth, not even a full minute. I am surprised that this short conversation was identified as a rant and deserved that kind of response. Dizpinfriend, I didn't see what the others were talking about (asking for help as you say) because I was engrossed in our conversation. After reading the threat of the boot, I chose to leave the room.

That is what happened -- in a nutshell.

I chose to make a "small" rant here on the board after the boot threat for asking questions and for making an observation about the last task in the quest. I did not identify anybody by name. Maybe the friends were just running out of patience with everybody's questions, and didn't want to address my comment - I don't know. My intention was to bring something to the friends attention, who then might address it with the owner.

A big, big problem with online communication is that messages (or in this case my questions and comments) can be interpreted in an entirely different way than the author meant them to be, simply by reading unintended emotions into the messages.

I did not, however, misread the boot threat -- that was very clear!

Well I didn't have a problem with Ranch's quests except that I am not SMART enough to get through them! :rotfl:

A friend and I tried today. Boy, Ranch, you sure have some mazes in there. If I NEVER SEE A GREEN CHAIR AGAIN :teeth:

And then I have people yelling at me to move and I would love to, but I can't!!!!!!!

Very good prizes, but ya gotta earn it! :smooth:

Oh don't bother I'm changing it every second of the day heh :smooth:

My quests were pretty simpe, nothing hard to do and no magic needed...

But i put it in my Animal Kingdom Lodge Safari Room with the Kali River Rapids chair and i get so many questions about that...

and of coarse theres those people who ask how to get the engine (or kiosk that its called now) and i say, you need inner space magic

one girl was rude enough to say "no really dumbo" so i ignored her then booted her...

um... oops ;)
