Hey everybody! :)

I've been meaning to post this for awhile, so I don't want anyone to think it's aimed at them specifically. . .

But I have noticed in the past couple of weeks quite a few instances where people have used an asterisk or some other method to get around the profanity filters we have on the boards. . .

It's not a big deal, and I have to admit I've done it myself a time or two. .

But, the filters are there for a reason, and it is against the guidelines to type in *'s to get around them. . . the same holds true if you post an image that contains words the filter would catch, or a link to another site that contains objectional language.

If anyone feels like using a filtered word is necessary, just type it in, and I'm sure people will figure out what it is. .

If everyone would please keep this guideline in mind, it would be appreciated . . Thanks! :)

Just for clarification, let's use the word "this" in place of an objectionable word:
Are you saying that "th*is" is ok, "th*s" is ok, "t**s" is ok, "t***" is ok, or "****" is ok or all they all no-nos?

WILLY, ANNA appreciates that you can be a little "rigid;) " at times but welcomes all types of language within the private confines of a PM:p :p :p :p ............

And all along I thought the asterisks got automatically added when you typed in a "no no" word as the site's way to censor the bad word!!! Silly me!!!!

Hey Jeff!

If you type in a word that is filtered, it will automatically replace each letter with a * So, using your example, if "this" were an objectional word, you would just type it in as is and then when your post comes up it will show ****.

So, typing in any *'s, as in your other examples, would be against the guidelines. . . and just plain wrong. . . ;)

:)

Thanks for the ****ing clarification Willy  :p

And Anna Nicole Smith wishes she still looked that good

Thanks Willy...."hopefully" no one will feel it necessary ter use such asteriks!

LOL!!! You are all so ****ing hilarious!! ;)

Right Eros. . PM's are different. . . ;)

what is the difference between #$%#$@ and *****

LOL Shannon! :teeth:

That's a good question Abaldacci, and the best way I can answer it is to give a couple examples. . .

Now, do not try this at home. . ;) . . . but there is a difference in seeing "Sh*t", "****", and "#$%&" on a post here. The first one makes the word so obvious, it might as well be typed all the way out, and because the owner of the site has decided (and rightfully so in my opinion) that he doesn't want those kinds of words posted here, doing that goes against the guidelines he has set forth. . .

The last two are generic enough that while one might guess what they stand for, they are not in and of themselves suggestive or offensive or however you want to put it. .

It's not something I can really quantify; it's just a matter of having to draw some kind of line, and that's where it is. . :)

CC, after your post on using dial up the other day, I'm pretty sure Willy's talking about you on this thread.;)

******! I was hoping you wouldn't see that Cathy. . .
