I have a few points that expire Jan. 31. I am wait-listed for Dec 10-13, but from reading the DIS boards, I'm coming to realize that's not very likely to happen. If I made a reservation for Jan (or got on the wait-list) and my Dec. res. came thru - would I be able to cancel the Jan res. without a penalty?
Thanks in advance for your help. The people on these boards have really enhanced my Disney experience. As they say in Texas - YOU ALL are great!

sure, worse case scenario, the January points would be holding points (if within 30 days) but it wouldn't matter to you as you will be making a ressie right away.

I believe you're within the time frame where you could bank those few points right now (before October 31st you can bank up to 25% of your points if you have a February use year). If your waitlist comes through you could then borrow from next year's points. If you plan on going next year you could then use the banked points.

I agree with WDWorld2003 except for the banking deadlines.

With a February use year, you can bank up to 25% of your annual allotment as long as you do it before the end of November. (No banking in December of January with a February use year). Your 50% deadline is October 31st.

That assumes you are talking about 2006 points and that the points you have left plus what is already banked do not equal more than 1/2 of your total (for the Octber 31st deadline) or 1/4 of your total (for the November 30 deadline).

I wouldn't advise trying to make a January reservation unless you actually plan to go then if the December waitlist doesn't come through. IMHO, better to bank - unless the expiring points have already banked or borrowed. If that's the case, hope your waitlist comes through or you can go in January.

Best wishes -
