The address was exactly the same as mine but it had a strangers name on it. I'm an identity theft victim, aren't I? :worried: Can someone please share the link for the free annual credit report please.
I guess I must also contact the courthouse?

How long have you lived at your current residence? It could also be someone who has lived there prior. There are several free credit report sites online. I always try to run one on my birthday or the day before (that way I remember to do it annually) just to be on the safe side.

I'm thinking old resident of your home, not id theft.

This is what I am thinking exactly. When I was summoned this year, I received a FAQ's and wrong name/address was on there. Even though you have updated your driver's license (and other places the list is compiled from), not everyone does. And the entire juror pool list is often not completely scrubbed until 10 years has gone by...in our community, that is a lot of turn over. {:offtopic: Our potential voters list is a mess due to this}

Getting your credit report is always a good idea and especially as the end of the year is approaching, it makes a good habit to begin. But, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion of your a victim of identity theft yet.

I've lived here for almost 12 years. I know the names of every person who has ever lived here (my house is 23 y/o).

The above is one of the popular ones. You can always call your home owners insurance and put a rider on it for id theft. Or get a separate policy if your worry. Life lock is popular right now.

More then likely its just a mistake...

I'm guess since it was a summons it was first class mail. Write the letters ANK to the left of the name and address and put it back in the mail box.

ANK is a postal acronym that stands for "Attempted Not Known" and put it in the mail box for your carrier to take as they would outgoing mail.

It will go back to where it came.

You can try calling the board of jurors to see if there was a computer glitch. There would be no cost to the call and if there was a computer glitch you will be covering your bases.

I would call the Jury commissioners office and let them know and ask them where they got that name and explain the situation.

I certainly am not familiar with how every state picks jurors, but I'm not sure any state uses any credit reports to get names.
Here they use:
Property tax records.
Drivers license records.
Voter registration records
State tax filing records.
The phone book.

More than likely it is just a transposition of the numbers on your address. So it is probably someone that lives nearby. Have you tried googling the person's name? Though that won't tell you for sure if it is legit. annual credit report .com is the official free site set up by the credit report agencies.

I'd circle the name and write "Recipient not at this address, return to sender" on the envelope. Then it would go back in the mailbox for pickup.

I also suggest to try a google search w/ their name and your address and see if anything else comes up.

My daughter received her first jury notice right after getting her driver permit, so as pp poster stated, I don't think it has much to do with your credit report.

Though checking it regularly is really a good practice to keep.

IDK where you are but I have lived in my state for 22 years. After living here 15 years I was getting jury summons at my parents house in Arizona where I hadn't lived or had a driver's license. I called them and explained this and I still had to send it back and request having my name through. It was matter of fact attitude with them- they said some people had been deceased longer and still were on a list. I had received one a few years prior also. I sent it back with whatever information they required showing I hadn't lived there. Think some states don't do a good job of purging the records well.

Definitely call the jury commissioners office. It could be a printing error and it is actually for you.

I've dealt with computer errors in mass mailings before where it had the wrong name or address on the envelope but the inside was correct.

Thanks everyone. I google the name and only 1 person came up and they live out of state. I wrote on the envelope and put it back in the mailbox.
