Junkanoo Beach at Nassau

Any recent reviews of the Junkanoo Beach at Nassau? Tips, advice ect.

We were there a little less than a year ago.

Cons: Very crowded, dirty, lots of bars, junk in the sand (pardon the pun)

Pros: Walking distance from Prince George wharf; but it's a 25 minute walk (ish)

All things equal, we'd not go back; especially with Castaway Cay the next day

Nope then not for us. I would pay for a taxi to a nicer, cleaner spot. Any suggestions? Somewhere safe as well. Thanks for your honest opinion.

Other than our one trip to Junkanoo, we've always done shopping on Bay Street. My wife replenishes her cosmetics for (apparently) good prices. Check out John Bull for that. I've no first hand experience. Lots of people on the boards chat about going to Atlantis via the Comfort Inn workaround, but that's not really our speed. Our kids are teens and beyond the water park thing. You have Castaway Cay the next day, and if shopping isn't your thing (booze is cheap too), then maybe staying on the ship may be an option.

We're adventurers and roaming in a foreign port is fun for us (I was in the US Navy, so it's not a new experience), but, once you leave the immediate port area, Nassau isn't very welcoming. It's very much a 3rd world country.

Agree that Junkanoo Beach did not feel family friendly. It probably isn't too bad during the day, but looks like it could get rough at night. (And it is in an off-limit area for US Military personnel. It was funny that our Nassau tour on the way to the Ardastra Gardens went through every off-limit area.)

Well I guess we could just keep it to shopping that day. I just love to get out in those crystal clear waters as much as possible when we cruise or are on vacation in the Bahamas/Caribbean. We are taking a kid with us that has never seen the waters down there and I was wanting her to experience as much as possible.

Any recent reviews of the Junkanoo Beach at Nassau? Tips, advice ect.

We like to go to the British Colonial Hilton and get a day pass it is 80.00 per person and they give you a 40.00 food and drink credit they have a beach and pool you can hang at and you can see the ship from beach

We were there Sept 2018 . We were on the 4 night. Our goal was to get off the ship for a Max of 4 hours to at least say we have been there and buy magnets. As our sailing was short we wanted to experience the boat more. The walk to the beach is very simple and not long. Granted it’s not the best the Caribbean has to offer but not the worst. For an hour or two I felt it was good. When I think about it, the beach in Cozumel we recently got scammed into seeing was worst ( rocky/ tons of glass). Junkanoo was actually clean and I saw no glass. They have chair rentals and a bar. We did not use the bathrooms. The beach is easy to get in and out of as it has a gradual decline and no sudden drop offs. For kids ok

Here are some pictures. Back then there was a hotel construction right next door you can see that image. The walk I added two shots. Nice square the kids played in the fountain. The walk I felt was safe. Just me and the kids. I‘d google what the Deal with that is right now with that construction. I also added one of the bars having issues with uploading

We were there this August. No issues. No glass or garbage in view. We never felt unsafe.The sand is a bit rocky. Bring water shoes. We rented three beach chairs and two umbrellas for $40. We had a server named Kevin who was wonderful and brought us whatever we asked for very quickly. Food and drinks were typical and fairly priced. Our 15 year old enjoyed talking to locals. No one was overbearing. Our three year old enjoyed the water and playing in the sand. (We brought our own toys.) It does NOT compare in anyway to Castaway Cay but was still a fun experience for the kiddos.

Have you considered doing Blue Lagoon? They offer a beach day without animal encounters. We enjoyed the beach a couple weeks ago before/after our animal experience. It was a nice beach I thought. Only con is you have to take the boat and it is a bit of a ride 40ish minutes plus it does have the cost. Just another idea.

We might venture over there for an hour or so, check it out and see how it is. If it looks fine we could rent an umbrella, through down some beach towels and buy a few drinks from the locals. Nothing major at all.
