So continuing this conversation, none of those things came into your mind when you decided to do homeschool?

Nope. I dont regret my decision at all. I like homeschool a lot better and as strange as it sounds, I get to spend a lot more time with my friends. I can go to Disney/church trips whenever I want. I really don't talk to any of my old friends at my old school much because I've made so many new friends because of homeschool.

I know stereotypes are often wrong. Heck, just a year or so ago I was on this very board defending homeschooling with the same arguments as you.

I thought my life was fine, I thought I was better off, I thought I was doing fine academically. Now that I look back on it, my opinion has changed some.

Homeschooling wasn't the worst for me, and it wasn't the best. I am very (like I said before) undecided about my decision.

I got some great things out of it. I became more relaxed and less dramatic, I found out what true friends are, and I grew up a lot.

But come on, you don't EVER miss public school? Cafeteria lunches and water fountains? Old beat up lockers and those hard wooden desks? Passing notes and laughing at what the teacher is wearing?

Can you really tell me that you never ever regret your decision?

Oh, man, I miss all that stuff so bad. I love, love, love helping my friends with homework. I love looseleaf paper. I love pencils, and actually writing things instead of typing them. I love wastepaper baskets and chalk and the smell of EXPO markers. I miss the hallway in between my first and second period class (in the middle was the English class that had a lot of hot guys in it, and I would always admire them from afar). I miss Bill Nye and the stupid movie about the family that moved to the west. I miss turning in homework and checking homework and extra credit. I miss people slamming lockers and losing papers. I miss fire drills. I miss getting called on. I miss science fairs and lectures and guest speakers. I miss the Korean breakdancing team that I thought was so ridiculous. I miss the guy with the red hair and the Nirvana sweatshirt that always sat across from me at lunch. I miss getting to school at 6:30 and having it be completely empty. I miss the big rush at the end of the day to leave. I miss everything I took for granted.

I agree with you, I like homeschooling better for me. I like doing the work on my own time and doing as much as I want. I love being able to go places whenever I want and not having to worry about missing school. I'm ahead in my schoolwork, like you. As far as friends go, I have my best friends and I honestly like them much better than any of the friends I've ever had in school. Plus I just work so much better independently. I don't have any regrets, and I honestly wouldn't go back to public school if I had the choice. I think it just honestly depends on the person.

high school is easier. you don't have to deal with the same people in every class so it is easier to ignore people like that

I love homeschooling for all the same reasons. I've never been to a puplic or private school so I don't know what it's like.

I know that if I was homeschooled I'd never do anything.
It's hard enough to make me work in class...
When I'm at home all day, I wait until my 20 minutes before my parents get home to bother doing chores. If I had homework, tests and stuff to read at home.. well they'd never get done.

Besides, I like working with my friends on things.

Honestly I really really wanted to be homeschooled up until the beginning of this year and I really started thinking and I'm glad I never did. It's just not for me.
I think HS is SO much better drama wise then JH for sure. I love HS.

Yeah. My friends and I were in a fight most of 7th grade year, at one point we were waiting outside class and we both started screaming at each other across the way. A friend and I thought we hated our other friends so we sat at a different table and we talked bad about them and they talked bad about us. It. was. a. mess. Which was quite funny because the very last day of school in 8th grade we all apologized to each other about everything and so far since we've been in highschool we haven't had much problem.

You still have disputes in HS but they're a lot more mature and well handled then in JH and usually forget about them after a few days. They don't really interfere with your friendship. At least from my experience. Some things you just can't really get past and stray away from some friends, but it's really okay. I found my best friend in HS. There is still things we fought over in JH that we stick to but we just forgive and forget and it's much easier.

Yes, JH is bad. For some reason, I am having trouble as a freshmen in HS. Rumors spread around in about 5 seconds. The stupidest ones too. Like I am a stalker. That I waited in the office for a boy to pass, so I could walk with him. No. That's not what happened. What happened was I dropped something off in the office, and I saw him, so I walked with him. There.

One thing you can try doing tommorrow when you is acting like nothing ever happed

Just really try to keep your head up high
I didnt have much drama in middle school...Just other peoples drama and one little thing that ended up being proven a month ago...
So I dont really get the whole middle school drama thing
But you could say I've got more than my share in high school
I guess the things that have really helped me was a trusted adult I knew who I could talk to things about and gave really good advice
Maybe if you know someone like that they could help you...

All those annoying little things you listed, none of them played even a tiny part in your reason to switch to homeschool?

That was the school I 'attended'. I did the 4 year high school curriculum in 1 year and graduated at 16. Now I'm at college.

Yeah I use actual textbooks. So much easier for me to have a physical thing to study and read from. So I get to use pencils and notebooks and looseleaf paper.

Yup, I'm doing a combination of online schooling and community college classes. I've got a little purple folder and a black notebook, with a pencil. Unfortunately, there are only seven kids in my class and the teacher likes us to take notes on our computer. But still. There's a wastepaper basket an a dry erase board and, you know, a teacher. So I'm really happy with how it's working out.

The only problem I see with homeschooling is that alot of those students who come to the university have a tough time fitting in. I have a couple in my classes and I think its been a rough transition too.

But I do think taking community college classes helps.
