Juneau Whale Watching Tour

I looked into this but the tours are LOOOOONG. 3.5 hours? Yipes! I'm not sure my 8 year old as a 3.5 hour attention span for anything at this point in her life. Did you have kids with you? Thoughts on the length?

Yes, we had our DD who was 9 at the time. It was the three of us and another couple in their 20s. Honestly, I would have been disappointed with less time. It takes a while to get out where the whales are and once you start seeing them, you don't want to have to leave quickly. It didn't feel long at all to me. You can be upstairs or downstairs and DD wasn't bored. She did nap a bit in the downstairs on our way back from the whales, but not really out of boredom, more necessity as it was an early morning and the boat ride was so nice.

It takes a while to get out to where the whales are or even find them. We went last year and had a private tour with Harv and Marv, and if that time is for the time you get off the ship until the time you are returned, 3.5 isn't long at all. The ship is pretty far from where we actually got on the boat for whale watching.

Yes we went with captain Larry of Orca Enterprises. We had a fantastic experience and highly recommend them. My 8 year old loved it! There were only about 8 of us on board. I know his boat would hold about 40 but there was only 8 of us!! I know Harv and Marv get rave reviews on here but they were out for us due to the age restrictions. Plus I though they were very expensive for a whale watch. Orca was fantastic and the age restrictions are much more lenient. We got very close to the whales and Captain Larry knows his stuff and has been there for decades. They were very interactive with my 8 year old and he loves marine biology so that might have made a difference.
