June vs. July vs. August Crowds

We are in the very early stages of planning a big trip out West probably in the summer of 2010. We of course will want to spend at least 3-4 days at DLR. We will need to go in the summer when school is out so that means anytime between early June to mid-August. I know it is obviously going to be crowded but is there a "better" time to go in the summer to hit fewer crowds?

I'd say earlier in June is better. Nicer weather, lesser crowds and the only thing you need to avoid is Grad Nights.

Agreed. As early in June as you can go. We have often left the day after school is out (mid-month) and the crowds have not been too bad.

Early June for sure. As the summer goes on you'll get bigger crowds and hotter weather!

They close the park early on grad nights. I think at 9pm?

Yep they close at 9pm on a grad night. The kids are bused in after closing, so it doesn't effect the crowds at all during the day.

Early June is risky because of reduced entertainment. Once you get to later June, IMO there is no significant difference between late June, July and the first three weeks of August. Except as the summer goes on it gets hotter. All else being equal I would go in the latter half of June for the cooler temps. We have only been once in August (2006). I thought the weater was quite nice. There was a couple of days when then weather was pretty warm. Not for me, but for my kids. They were pretty busy though. We are pretty laid back vacationers though! so we just took it at a snails pace. We had nothing planned but 2 character meals.

We loved DL! have a great time!
