June or December?

I have a small dilemma and was hoping that some of you could help me decide. My dear, sweet, prince charming planned a surprise trip for him and I from June 5-9. He gave it to me for my 40th birthday. I have to say that I was truely shocked because we just came back from WDW last month. (We surprised the kids) Anyway, here's the dilemma-he doens't read these boards or any other info regarding disney so he has no idea what dates are better or worse than others regarding crowds and what-not. I just read that the dates he has chosen are during Star Wars weekend and Gay and Lesbian week. EEk! No offense but I despise Star Wars! While I could care less about the gay and lesbian thing, I feel it may be super crowded-not to mention HOT! Given the above mentioned reasons, would it be wrong for me to ask to change the date to December 1-5? We have gone at this time before and found the crowds to be manageable and the weather to be cooler.
I am also dying to get back to see the Christmas decorations and the Candlelight Processional (my absolute favorite part of Disney) without the kids. (they thought it was boring) Our last 2 trips have been in December of 2000 and January 2005 -both cooler times of the year. Actually, in January, it was freezing which may be why he picked June. Am I being a fool even thinking of changing the plans after he gave me this trip as a gift? I certainly don't want to hurt his feelings! Any advice would be much appreciated! sorry this is so long! Patty

HI Patty,

Well this coming December will be our 6th year going at the beginning of Dec - Even though the weather can be cooler even cold at times its warmer than Massachusets! And the Beautiful holiday decorations, CP, MVMCP Osborne family festival of lights and low crowds make early dec worth it!

That said we also go every summer(end of june or july) - and the weather is HOT and crowds are UP - but we still ALWAYS have a fantastic time!

If I was forced to make a choice of only one it would definately be early Dec!

The first week in Dec. is one of the best times to go to the World ::yes:: . We rarely go to the World in the summer months for one reason at that is because it is to darn HOT!! Eventhough we are from the south and can pretty much take the heat, but when you add the humidity and the crowds that WDW has during the summer months it equals misery for us.

So with that being said I would chose Dec. We went there this past Dec. and loved it. We loved the MVMCP and all the decorations. We normally go sometime from Oct. through Feb.

Have a great day

I think you will have a great time and it is one of the most special times to visit WDW.Our favorite time in fact for all the holiday decorations and special events like MVMCP,CP,Osborne Lights and special live shows performed. We arrive 12/4 this year for our Decemeber vacation,we have been first part of Decemeber each year since 1992 so be forwarned once you go in December you may decide you need to go every year.LOLHave a magical time what ever you decide. :flower: :goodvibes :earsboy: :wizard:

I vote December too - fab time of year to go. I think June would just be soo hot and crowded that it might edge away at the enjoyment.

What a lovely surprise. I suggest you tell your husband exactly what you told us. Tell him you did some research and found it'll be hot and most likely crowded. Tell him you'd love to see the World at Christmas time (talk about magic). If he was willing to do this surprise for you, I'm sure he'll have no trouble changing.

Perhaps you can play up the "we've just been there" so you'd like to see the World in a different season. Be careful to mention how absolutely sweet your hubby is and how much you love the fact that he would want to surprise you!!!!!!

You are a lucky lady :goodvibes

I travel at both times of the year. The crowd level for Star Wars weekends seems about the seasonal norm, and if you avoid the Star Wars specific eents, it is like any other day at the studios. The same for the gay day crowds, levels seem seasonally normal...and I try to avoid the MK on any Saturday/Sunday in the summer months.

However, early December is also a wonderful time to go...but the weather can be unpredictable and you'll have to pack for most anything from summer shorts to heavy coats. The Candlelight Processional is beautiful, the Christmas Party and decorations are magic.

There are positives and negatives to both seasons. I do usually like the weather in June better than December.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I asked him what he thought and he said it was his gift to me and that I could choose whenever I wanted! Yahoo! It is definately going to be hard to wait until December though! Thanks again! Gotta go work on our reservations.... Patty

no, no, no!!!! Eeek! Stop recommending December!! LOL!! Thats when we are booked to go. We decided 2 weeks in December because all the boards are suggesting its a quiet time of the year - well, flippin' eck - how quiet is it going to be with everyone recommending it!!! :rotfl2:
