June, July or August?

Hey DVC veterans: we are new DVC members and had a wonderful trip this month, July 1-8. Weather was not too hot and never too rainy. From reading posts, however, it seems a lot of folks had miserable weather the week before we arrived.

DVC members travel regularly. What are your opinions -- is the weather less likely to be disastrous in early June? July? I am trying to make res for next summer and can't decide! I need a crystal ball to tell me which weeks are good...

We swim a lot and only visit the parks in the mornings and evenings, so I am less concerned about heat than rain. Afternoon rain doesn't bother me, but a week of steady rain sure would.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

It's always a roll of the dice whenever you go, but the summer months, in general, are pretty dry with the usual afternoon shower thrown in.

We've gone in June three times (once early June, once middle June, once late June) and we had very hot, dry weather once and comfortably hot and dry the other two times. This year's rains seem to be an aberration that does not regularly occur unless the hurricanes are blowing!

Average temperature is a little lower in June than July or August, but on any given day they can all be REALLY hot or very nice....like I said, a roll of the dice.

And with DVC, even if you do get the rainy vacation, you know you will be going back often so you don't have to feel like your "once in a lifetime" vacation was spoiled! :D

Oh, and by the way, we're at the 11 month window for June 24 check outs, so if you're thinking June you'll want to get on that right away!

And last but certainly not least....WELCOME to the DIS Boards!

Here are some averages from usatoday.com

For the following months here are the average high and low temps, the warmest and coldest temps, and the average dew point and precipitation.

JUNE 91 72 100 53 71 7.4
JULY 92 73 101 64 72 7.4
AUG. 92 74 100 64 73 6.2

It looks to me like August has the least amount of rainfall. Personally, I always thought that August (being the beginning of hurricane season) was wetter than Jun / July but based on these averages, it appears I was wrong.

Apparently, I am the experienced old lady where summer weather is concerned, having gone to Florida every year since 1974. June is usually low 80's, which feels horribly hot if you are from the midwest and have had a very cool spring, August is always a steam bath, but July can go either way. We were also down there at the same time you were there this year, and I thought the weather was quite nice for summer. It always rains in the afternoon for an hour or so, what you experienced is actually typical. Those that experienced very rainy weather the weeks before our arrival actually got unusual summer weather for Florida, so make your ressies and enjoy! I have to wait a couple weeks before I make my own ressies, and I can't wait!

Thanks, Cruella! We used to go every summer when I was little (back in the dark ages of the 70's...) and that's what I remember -- hot, with afternoon rain. I kinda hate to go in June because then it's over so fast... We'll probably do July again and hope for the best.

I now see all the helpful responses from you Summertime veterans... thank you all so much. I had some grumpy friends asking me "Why are you going to Disney AGAIN... and in the summer when it is SO hot?" Well... I will never get enough of WDW (I'll be 78 when my DVC runs out and I will have to buy back in!) AND the week I was in Orlando, it was much hotter back in Indiana! Some folks just don't get it... anyway, thanks for the help :D

Colleen, I don't even want to know how young you are (my daughter's could have written your post about the 70's:D )! You're from Indiana, and people are complaining that Florida is hot??!! The absolute hottest I have EVER been has been when I was in Indiana, with Chicago a very close second!! Florida has nothing on the midwest when it comes to summer heat! Still, since we are from Michigan, and live in a town right on Lake Michigan, we hear the same thing. It's just a lot easier to say "I have a timeshare down in Florida". For some strange reason, owning a timeshare makes it OK to go to Florida in the summer. No one ever understands that you just happen to enjoy yourself when you are there:)
