June, July, August PLANNING thread

I know what you are talking about. First my boss tells us after a couple of years that we can only take vacations in June, July and August. we have 8 people with 3 weeks vacations and there is not enough weeks in the 3 months for everyone to take vacations. Second, he tells us that if we dont take them we loss our vacation time. Of course he is the one that approves our vacations. Third - since he can't afford to take vacations, he does not think we should take one. Get this - If we are granted our vacation time, he wants us to take our company cell phones with us so he can contact us in an emergency, also we have to check in with him daily even on vacation.

We have to work 7 days a week 24 hours a day 365 days a year for him. We have to check in with him when we arrive at work and let him know when we leave at the end of the day. At 54 years of age, i would be a fool to start a new job and who would hire me at the salary i am currently at.

I understand how you feel, I also need a break........It has been a battle for the last 25 years for a day off let alone a vacation.

I forgot to add one thing. I have been a single custodial parent for 12 years. My wife left us when my DD was 8 months old.

SO - I have to be careful with every discision i make because it affects our lives. My DD 12 always says - DAD let's pray and GOD will take care of us and if you lose your job, GOD will direct you if that day comes. GOD will never let you indure more than you can take.

Happy Memorial Day!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We are finally caught up. Had a big wedding this weekend and working. It was very very nice but we got home late & i luckily got cancelled to work sunday. So it worked out. We pretty much just vegetated out sun and today. Told bug, I would do laundry tommorrow. [i am off] so we are not doing anything big.

Well summer is here in illinois. 90's all weekend. We went from heat to air conditioning again this year.

RHMH, Sorry about your job / vacation policy. Ugh. I work at a hospital and they like to use the 'pto' policy. You use it for sick time, or vacation or holiday's. 3 weeks for 5yrs and 4 wks for 10 years or better. You can pull them over the years up to 480 hrs. But, they also offer a "buy out" twice a year if you haven't used it or are getting close so you don't lose it. I have never needed that feature.

RHMH sounds like your a great dad!

It's HOT here to mky...but going to be cooler tomorrow I guess DH said. I have to go direct him on some weeds to pull between this one wild flower I have that I cannot touch. Bad news!

You are so right too...the corn is coming and if we don't get some rain, I'll be in big do-do. Not looking happy right now

TP2: I hope your plans are coming along. I know you were throwing things together at the last minute

I'm just going to be moving kids around all summer or so that's what it seems like right nowDS came home last week and we are taking his stuff back up to the house he's renting with 4 buddies...we really just got it put away when this transpired that we are taking it back this weekend. We have to get him a bed and get the guys internet in the house too...but I have been assured that this new arrangement "will be cheaper Mom"

Then we go the next week to get DD from the Windy City and she starts summer classes that Monday after we get home.

I have classes for a week in June too. Too busy

still have to buy a bed toohowever, I'm spotting him that one as a bed will be about the price of renting a loft for two years!

He did put together the vaccum and is currently putting together the desk.
The desk set actually was a great deal...desk, table, and book shelf for 75 bucks at Walmart. It's that "Fine Pressed Wood."

Well, I left it in my car overnight and it wasn't good!

DS put the desk together...DH is working on the shelf and table.

DS is renting a house next year for school...it's not for the summer.

I cannot blame him either...the dorms have NO AC and I hate when he goes back in August and the internet is horrid in the dorms!

It is NOT however going to be a savings
I'm hoping I break even on this deal.

The one thing is too that he gets a pay as you go food plan and being in the dorms the food is more expensive per meal which seems very unfair to the students who are not old enough to live off campus.

Well, it will be a whole new adventure that is for sure

I asked if they needed a shower curtain for the shower....I got the "deer in the headlights" look.

I bought one...I can always return it to Walmart if they don't and there is a Walmart where his college is for all the things they didn't think about.

Oh my a glimpse of what I have to look forward to. DD16 can go off to University next August if she wants to. She will have enough credits to finish high school by the end of first semester next year. Just over 17 and moving out seems so early. I was eighteen and I think that was early enough.

She has to go away to school since the physics degree she wants is not available at the University of Windsor. It would be a lot cheaper if she could stay here.

I never thought I'd be moving the stuff this weekend that we just moved home last week...but there were no vans for another weekend in the summer and they can get into the house June 1st so OFF WE GO!!

I guess it's better than after I start work in August. And, we'll get his stuff out before DD's comes home!

well its offical.. my days off at work are approved and in the computer... so its on to the next planning stage.. picking a hotel.. my friend is suppose to come over saturday and we should choose then... then its all the packing and seeing what i need to get ugh my least fav part

we've added some thigns to our trip, money allowing anyways.. since we will have a few days to ourselves to do whatever.. we are gonna try for a water park, and one day at one disney park for a little taste for next year...
