Hi! I hope I can post here. I NEED to go back to Disney - it's been a year now since our last visit and I'm trying to work around my husband's job and my part time job at a school that makes it so we can't just pull the kids out of school and go when we know it's not crowded.

Sorry if this has been asked already but I was thinking about going the last week of August, into the first week of September as an option for us and was wondering just how hot it is down there, does that time frame include free dining if they have it next year, and are the crowds less than the rest of the summer? Thanks for any help!!

Hi. Can I join in the fun?

We're going from Aug 13-19, and staying at the Contemporary (in the cheapest room there I can find.) I can't wait!!!
My husband and I were last at Disney in 1990, and our 3 kids (9,7 and 4 years old) have never been there.

I have it on good authority that Santa is getting each of us a fanny pack-- can you think of any other small things he might want to bring along?

I'm currently obsessing about airfares, even though I know it's too early. And I have a tentative list of our ADR's done... is there anything big I should have my eye on at this point?

Tomar: We had our actual wedding on Long Island. I had a lot of business trips to Disney during our first 3 years married. The company I worked for did a 600 person convention down there and I planned it so I needed to go down every so often for meetings and such. Of course I always added days on so I could enjoy some time with Mickey.

As for traveling in August, I have done that the last 2 summers. The first family trip was in July and it was hot but also VERY crowded. In August, we got free dining the last 2 years and while it is still very hot, the crowds are much less. In July there were times where you could not even walk through the crowds. In August we were always able to get right onto rides without too much of a wait. You do need to prepare though and keep an open mind. Lets say you plan on going on Peter Pans Flight, good chance there is a long line but you can fastpass that. Take the fastpass and hit other things in the area that don't have lines like the carosel and Its a Small World. You can easily waste time doing other things while waiting for a fastpass. As for the heat, keep in mind that every ride, store, and restaurant is air conditioned. Take breaks and enjoy the scenery. Just eat it all up and don't feel like you have to do everything during your trip. Leave something for your next trip to Disney.

There are 10 of us planning on going July 19-26, 2008 at AKL. Are there ever codes for July. Most of the week is value season, but every little helps.

If codes are a possibility, when would they be released?

Thanks.

This should give you the info you are looking for.

Hi Everyone: Does anyone have a discount code for the Photopass book? I did a search and could not find anything but I figured we had the best of the best here so I would check before shipping all my dough.

MKY: You are leaving in like 2 weeks. I am so excited for you. Hopefully that foot is holding up. I am really so sorry that we did not get a chance to catch up in August. I think I am still in shock over how sick DD8 was. This will be a much better trip, I can feel it. I only wish I were coming with you. Maybe in your suitcase.

Tomar: I can't believe that the perfectly princess is 16 months old already. She was not even born when we met. Time flies.

Thank god we don't live out west. Can you imagine how hard it would be for you to breath over there? That was all I could think about this week. Asthma is so new to me, it is really so much work to bring all of the stuff all the time. I am so nervous that I am going to forget something at home. Her breathing changes by the minute. She will be fine and then she isn't. I can't wait for the frost, they are saying it will kill all the allergins and things should get better. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

EE22: Hope you are still surviving. Maybe you can get some rest this weekend.

Hiya everyone!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. :) We are down to 23 days! WOW
I finally got somethings done for winter and our trip. Went shopping friday nite and sat. Then today switched the winter with the summer stuff. Of course, pulled out my vac. wear. ;) So I have that set aside kinda like pre-packing. Still (and we have been at this time of year several times) not sure about the weather, and what to wear. Planning on mostly shorts, T's, and a few jeans, & sweatshirts? Ok, I thought about a few tanks, just in case we get lucky? I am one of those people that can wear shorts in January (up here), just need the top half covered and I am ok. When your in your 40's you are always hot.:confused3

I can feel the "shot" is starting to wear off. :scared1: Just little twinges' coming back now and then. Little cramping. Still trying to think positive.

TP2, Can tell you wheren't in the parks too much in august. It was Packed! Everywhere we tried to go. I followed TGM's advice and it was still crazy. Enough to question if we should go back next august. I thought it got much more crowded, when the free dining kicked in. As for the heat, it was extremely hot this year, but the weather reports all said it was worse this year, and they had more days over 100 than usual for august. The upside it rained very little.

Tp2 & Tomar, sis got a machine this week too. Her asthma was pretty bad for a few days > Oral steroids, nebs, and antibiotic's. She is doing better now. Well, it frosted today here, so hopefully things will all start settling down.

EE22, Your 1 quarter done out of 4? Football should be completed, how did they do?

I started x-mas shopping this weekend. That christmas club $$$ was burning a hole in my pocket.:thumbsup2

Ok, any packing idea's please?

mky:cutie:

Hi guys !:goodvibes
Sorry I haven`t checked in for a few days....I actually was checked-into our area Hospital from Thursday until last night !!:sad1:
It has been a rough few days.....I had a very very frightening experience with my heart being in arithmia...(due to the fact that my potassiium was low)...and I really thought I was getting a heart attack !:scared1:
I went through 2 days of extensive testing (stress test...EKO cardiagram..cat scan of heart and lungs...and the end result is that I may be in for life with COPD !....:sad2: Not sure...I have to see my internist this week..but the cat scan came negative...so Im hopeful:angel:
The guys in my life DH & DS were by my side through it all...and I even spoke to PP on the phone from the hospital....she now says ....Cat..DaDa...MaMa..:goodvibes
MKY- I was in awe of the nurses in the hospital...they all became my friends...especially the ones that had a Disney uniform LOL :goodvibes
They were all very dedicated and pleasant...and made a terrible trauma in my life...a tolerable experience by thier kindness....I thought of you...I knew by knowing you...that you`re the same way !!:wizard:
Well guys ....Im out of the forrest...but not quite out of the woods yet...
more to come this week !! Wish me luck !pixiedust:

Hi All...sorry I haven't been around. It's been busy around here, but not nearly as bad as Tomar's days:scared1:

MKY, I hope your foot holds out. I don't have any great packing ideas for ya. I'm always cold it seems. My feet have to be warm. It was rather cool when we were there in Dec. DD liked being in capris and DS in shorts. I would watch the weather. I do know at night we needed sweatshirts.

I'm having major issues with my foot, but I'm hoping now that I have some new Danskos I'll be better. The first pair I had didn't work. I saw a lady in the shoe store and she gave me some tips on what to buy and they seem to work a lot better. She told me to buy the ones with the wider heal.

TP2: I hope things are going a bit better. I know it's very upsetting when your kiddies aren't well. We always had the trauma of DD's ear and whether her hearing would be okay. Sending pixie dust your way.

Football is over and the season ended better than it started. They won their last two games and Thursday night they won 47-20. GO LIONS.

A week of rest before bball starts but DH is out of town the beginning of this week.

Friday night I took the kids just before midnight to hunt for ghosts:confused3 I was creaped out just by being out after dark. This was with a class, but not mandatory, but DS really wanted to go so off we went while DH went to bed. It's an old historical house in this area that everyone says is huanted. I was only haunted by the lack of sleep. To bed at 1 am and up and out the door to the eye doc. I've developed another eye infection:eek:

I hope everyone stays well. Happy Thoughts on that one!:wizard:

After two weeks, my step mom is doing okay. It drives me a bit nuts that I can't talk to her, but I figure no news is good news.

ps....
8 Months Tomar...keep your eyes on that one.

MKY, I hope you take loads of pics of the new lights on the Castle for us!!
Win a night in the suite too!!

Tomar!

oh no, I am so sorry. That can be very scary. Anything with hearts scares people. You have some good men in your life.:) Glad your nurses where 1st rate. :wizard: That can really make or break your visit. We are voting at work to have "disney" as our theme for shirts. Fingers crossed the hospital lets us. We have been wearing the same teddy bear shirt for 2 years. This would give us some change. And you know I would be thrilled. So was this all brought on by your asthma? Eat your potassium. Bananas, OJ is fortified too. Potassium (k+) is esstential in heart function. Any drastic change in your electrolytes will effect it, and then effect your heart. Glad your doing better, that was a rough weekend.

EE22, Hope your foot is happy in it's new home. I reccommend the shot. Wondering when I can do it again?:rolleyes1

Hang in there everyone, seems like everyone is (getting older) falling apart. :scared1:

mky:cutie:

Tomar::scared1:  :scared1:  :scared1: You had a horrible weekend. Glad you are out of the hospital. I hope all goes well this week with further testing. I am so sick of doctors right now, of course they are wonderful and we really need them, and of course thank god we have them, but I am really sick of them. I am sure you are feeling the same way. I will say a prayer for you.

MKY: I was going to ask when you can get another shot, you answered it for me. Maybe sooner than you think.:hourglass

You are right about me not being in the park much this year. The times we were there we always got right on to everything. But once she got really sick, we were into free dining and could not go out during the day. Had to wait for sunset. I think we only went to the Pirate and Princess Party once free dining started. Not a good indicator of crowd levels. Last summer though, we definately noticed a difference between the crowds in July and August. Also free dining so I assumed it was the same.

DD3 is doing much better. We were back on Wednesday for a double ear infection and the doctor checked her lungs. They were clear, finally.

As for clothes to pack, it is still warm here in NY so I would think that Florida would still be worthy of shorts. Of course a lot can happen in 3 weeks during this time of year. I will keep my fingers crossed for warm weather.

EE22: You are better than me, I would not have gotten out of the car at the haunted house.:scared1: I am a big scardy cat about that stuff. I can go on any ride but haunted stuff just freaks me out. I am not even too big a fan of the Haunted Mansion in MK. I'm a little nervous to go on since the closure.

I understand that feeling of football season ending. Kindof like the end of June for me. Huge relief being able to own more of your time. Glad the season ended on a good note. Makes everyone feel good.:woohoo:

What about that shot for you too? May be worth looking into.

Have a good week everyone.

Hi guys !!!:grouphug: What can I say. ...you guys are the best !!:grouphug: Thank you for all your concern !!

MKY- Yep- I was tested for the electolites- and such...I don`t know too much about that...but what I do know...is the water pill that I take..was depleating the water in my body....leaving me with very low potassium levels....and thus I was getting palpatations and artihmia of the heart !!:scared1:
I was scared ...very scared !!! I had never been in a hospital ...other than having my 2 sons.....EVER !!...but like I said...all the nurses were just super !!
I hope that you get the A-OK to have Disney shirts MKY- they are soooooo cute....Emma (one of the nurses had the eeyore with the stethascope:) ...and Judy had the one with Dora the explorer....so cute....
anyway....I was given the Stress test ...which I failed...I had no food til 3 pm and they were taking blood all day...so I was wiped out !! the Eko showed that the right side of my heart was working overtime...and that`s when they ordered the Cat Scan to check all the artiries in the heart and lungs.....the pre-diagnosis was.....if the test was possitive....I had a blood clot in the lungs...and I had to stay in ghe hospital to start to desolve it..and then 5 months of treatment at home with injections in the stomach....:scared1:  :scared1:
The second....and that`s what Im thinking I might be facing now...is.....the test is negative...which it is...but that I have some COPD.....from all the years of Broncitis and Asthma.....
So Im grateful for the negative...but like I said....Im not oout of the woods just yet !!!! Im not on the nebulizer right now...but I have a little cough..and I reading up on the COPD thing....it sounds alittle like me....so we`ll see what happens....
TP2- Thank you !!! I know you`ve been tired of drs. too for the last few months......I pray all is well sooon !!!

EE22- 7 months can`t come soon enough !!!!!!:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Thanks again guys !!!!:cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Tomar: Hope you are feeling better. DD3 has been so much better this week. I think I have the pattern down. Her reflux kicks in (she missed a dose of medicine last week) then the asthma gets worse, then her ears become infected. I think the key is keeping the relux in check. I think the cooler weather may also be helping. How is your asthma in Florida with the heat in July? I would imagine pretty bad. Not sure if we should even attempt to go back during the summer with her having asthma. Let me know if the heat makes it worse. I am hoping you are feeling better. Take care of yourself.

TP2- Thank you so much for asking:goodvibes Im feeling better today:cloud9: .... Your doctor is exactly right with DD3`s treatment...I was put on Nexium...because my allergist felt that the reflux...was triggering an Asthma attack with me....
AWWW.:sad2: ...I can imagine all the thoughts that must have gone through your head with haveing DD3 diagnosed with this.... My older DS was just 3 when he was diagnosed also....I was loosing it...trying to sanitize my home.. even more than it was...lifting carpet...and dusting the floors all day long !
I don`t seem to have a problem in July in the world...believe it or not:angel: ...I feel better in the Summer....always.:yay: ...I shouldn`t be in NJ...but I love it here :cloud9: LOL ...We`ve always gone in the summer...and I don`t think I would have....if I thought I was going to suffer:sick:
Mr. Tomar is treating me like a little fragile puppy...since I came home from the hospital ..ROTFL...he`s been doing alot around the house too....Im grateful:angel: ....but I better start excercising  that was the instructions from the hospital for my failing the stress test....Miserabley !!!!

Wow, everyone has been having a rough time while I was away. I have been catching up on the reading but have not had time to post lately.

Tomar - my thought and prayers are with you. My mom (now 75) had a heart attach in Dec 2005 and it came out of the blue. We did the zip line tour in Mexico together a year before and she was always the small but strong one. It was not a serious attach but it was horrible. I was in North Carolina for work and a huge icestorm hit Charlotte and Chicago and Detroit were snowed in and I could not get home right away. I darn near drove the 4x4 off the highway trying to get to the airport once the roads were passable. I can't imagine what it would have been like to be the patient.

The good news is, she followed the doctors instructions and was able to do the Disney cruise with us in March for her birthday present. So do as they tell you :goodvibes

Encourage DH to continue to help out to provide you with the opportunity to do what you need to do to enjoy a healthy life into old age.

TP2 - the heat does not bother my asthma but rather the air quality. I agree that free dining does affect the crowds but we go the middle of July and I don't have any trouble breathing.

MKY - I am 41 now and the hot flashes are only just starting so I still have to bring sweatshirts and such. Don't forget to pack an empty duffle bag for the return trip. Even if we don't buy much, I can never get as much into the bags on the way home.

I hope the pass the Disney shirts for you as well. In our hospitals, they were all kinds of differnt shirts so it is up to the individual. It would give people something to distract them.

I hope everyone feels better soon.:grouphug:

Candi- Sorry that your mom was going through a tough time there for a while too:sad2: ...You never know when something could happen...it scarey:scared: ...all we can do is try to take the best care of ourselves...and leave the rest to God !:cloud9:
I know it must have been so stressful not to be able to be at her side at first
but from what you are saying....you made it !:thumbsup2
Thank you for your concern too:goodvibes ....Im feeling much better since Im home...I was actually having an Arithmia not an attack ..due to the lack of potassium in my body...but it sure felt like it ! ....I have to pick up all the tests and take them to my reg. Doc....Im not sure if I`ll have to see a Pulmonologist or not....but at least I know Im on the right track..;)

Happy Halloween gang !!!:hmghost: :mickeyjum :hmghost: :mickeyjum

TP2- What are the girls going trick or treating as this year ? Let me guess  .....PRINCESSES !!princess: princess:
They sure look like Princesses !! :cloud9:

MKY- Are you packed yet ?....Im getting so excited for you now !!! Pretty soon !!!!!party: party:

EE22- I can`t believe that we`re going to have to start making our ADR`s in a month or so....YIPEE !!:yay: :yay: When I know that our names are in the restaruant logs of Disney....I feel like we`re half way there ! :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

Hiya everyone! :hmghost: :chewy: :ewok: HAPPY HALLOWEEN!:darth: :yoda: :hmghost:

Hope everyone could enjoy there holiday.:) We had pretty good weather here for the trick or treaters. Windy and high 60's. Rained in the afternoon but stopped at 3pm. We had a mob.

Worked passed our shirts:banana: Today wore a great mickey / minnie halloween shirt.:thumbsup2 The hospital used to wear everything too, then they decided to be more "professional" and only allow white and navy. popcorn:: But Pediatric's fought back, and we are granted permission to wear cartoon prints. Yeah.:dance3: Still only white and navy pants, which is ok.

:hourglass 20 days! Tommorrow is November, the month we leave! We are getting close. Very excited now.

Candi, Welcome back, hope your mom is doing well still. I had a hysterectomy but doing patches. So when I forget to change them in time, I start sweating & having the hot flashes.

Tomar, are you eating your bananas? You let Mr. Tomar take care of you for a while.;)

EE22, Sis has to learn or figure out posting pictures here. Maybe I can get a photopass guy to take a picture of the castle for everyone?

You guys will be doing your adr's while I am gone? What are your must haves? Gosh, I have to start seriously thinking about next august. Are we going then, cruising, dates? I better get busy on that passport too. :wizard: (just incase?)

:smickey: :smickey: 20 days and counting.................... mky:cutie:

Hi all...Happy Halloweenie;)

So glad you can wear Disney shirts mky!!
Walmart has a great selection and there are some online too with Disney now.

I can't believe your trip is here so SOON!!!

I hope everyone takes care of themselves.

My only week off all year from sports and DH has two business trips. No fun.

And...DD found out she has practice on Saturdays over break so we can't even take an over night when we go back to Midway to shop. :sad1: We are both really bummed, but I tried not to make a huge deal out of it. It will be Wicked and one morning before the show now. Oh well....

She has practice at 5:45 AM too on Wednesdays and various other days too:scared1:

Soon we'll be saying Gobble Gobble.

Happy Halloween!

We had great weather here as well. It was mid sixties and the temp didn't drop until about 8:30 and now it is raining a bit but it was great for the little kids.

My mom is hanging in there. She had a TIA a couple of months ago (a mini stroke) and she is going to have surgery to open a blocked vein in her neck (90% blocked) the end of November. They were kind enough to book it after my physical inventory since I can't take time off during the 10 days it ties me up at work. I will have a week off to take care of her in hospital and once she gets home.

We are going to hit the Kalhari water park in Ohio on November 10th to get a little family time in before the chaos starts with inventory, taking care of mom and getting ready for Christmas.

Her outlook is good and she wants the surgery and she has one of the best doctors around here. Our health care might be included in our taxes but the care is not as good as you get in the US.

MKY - how far would Sandusky be from your place? It is 2.5 hours from Detroit for us. Detroit is just a mile from here (border traffic takes about 20 minutes).

Tomar - you might want to approach the subject of having someone come in the help you clean.....I would give up food before my housekeeper! If you find someone who knows someone who cleans houses, it is not as expensive as you think and it reduces the stress level an incredible amount.

It might be just what you need to take some non-critical functions off your plate so that you don't look like this come Sunday nights :scared1:

I turn the key everyother week and the house is clean. I still tidy and such in between but no full house cleaning on Saturdays for me. :cloud9:
