June/July/August 2006 Code watch

know this is way OT but DH wants to go to Niagara Falls in July and we have never been. Can you tell me a decent place to stay with 3 kids? We wants to be near the casino so he can play after I go back to the room with the kids. We are looking to keep the cost down so I am not sure where to find a room for around $100 per night. Also, are there any good sites to find specials or learn the ins and outs?

Check out the Canadian board. You'll get some good answers there from the locals. ;) Have a great time!

I'd be looking at the rent/trade board to see if there is anything available for a DVC. I doubt that there is much to choose from for this summer though.
I know a lot of people do this, but I wouldn't sleep well until I arrived. Besides, it's AKL or nothing. I tried to get the family to go for the teacher discount at the Swan and that was a big yelling "no" by the three of them simultaneously!!! So, it's AKL or bust for us. There are worse things in the world ;) And, I'm still taking my $94 rate and my $270 rate and getting $182 as the average. My glass is half full

I went to a DVC presentation, just to get a better understanding of it. There's no doubt, over time, you will save money. However, it is pricey, and if your credit is less than stellar - Forget it. You won't get financed. Which leaves you the option of paying $15,000 up front. Not sure about you guys, but I sure don't have that kind of money.

I am a little late, but this made me laugh. Disney seems to finance EVERYONE... I have hung out out on the DVC boards and read enough stories to think that pretty much they finance everyone.. (There is little risk to them.. they just take it back and resell if you don't pay and they take directly out of your bank account so they KNOW! LOL!)

Give me a quick lesson since I don't know anything about it...
how can paying $15,000 up front be a good deal? That's a lot of trips to Disney. I know a friend who even had a CM discount and pulled out...or whatever you call it. So...I don't get it really. Isn't only good for so long too?

You got that right, Carol. If your credit really sucks then they have you put down 20 percent instead of 10 percent. The only thing they question is those who have an active bankruptcy

Doesn't sound too bad. We pay over $10,000 a year now for just a room at the Poly! That is on a slow year. Some years it is over $15,000.

It is only a good deal depending on how long and for how many years you plan on going to Disney. SSR is good for 52 or 54 years, and that will give my great-grandchildren a chance to experience it!
Just think it is about 300 a night to stay in a studio at the BC with a discount that is 5 nights at @1500. it would cost around $7000 to purchase these points and then pay around $280.00 in dues a year. So you would break even in about 7 years. I KNOW I will be going to Disney in 7 years from now.
NOt only that the resale value is still pretty high on these points. In some cases, like OKW for example, the value has gone up eventhough there are fewer years left on the ownership compared to SSR.

:) We have had an annual rate for the last 7 years, but in inquiring through some permanent cast members, they say that they believe it has been 10 years. They could be wrong, but I have been getting some sort of AP cut for the last 7 years. It was a deep cut during the summer following 9/11 and that winter. I am also very surprised there isn't a Fl passholders discount....

I know you meant "FL resident" discount" and , no, I can't remember the last there was no "FL resident" code. Quite honestly, my DD and I will be in WDW at the end of June. Last year, the codes for that time period was out by March.

At this point, you'd have to pick me up off the floor if codes came out for June.

I guess I'm not so sure DH would be up for only WDW vacations :)

DVC is a good deal if you want to stay in villa accommidations. If you are happy with moderates or value then no its not a good deal.

If you stay deluxe then financially its a good deal, but not if you really want to stay at a certain resort such as the Polynesian or Grand Floridian.

You have to figure the cost of your initial purchase of points, and then your monthly/yearly dues.

Your best value is staying at one of the DVC resorts at WDW, Hilton Head or Vero Beach. Anything else is not a good use of the points.

Also you need to be able to plan ahead as much as 11 months to get certain busy times and at least 7 months to take advantage of being able to book what you want. Already some members have seen times they were not able to book what they wanted, when they wanted even at 8 months out.

We have enjoyed ours but lately it seems to be losing some of its appeal.

That's good info. Since I'm a teacher and can only go during the busy times and my family only likes to stay at AKL it's just not a good option for us. I thought about how much we would pay for our room this summer and then perhaps at Christmas time and then thought it would be. However, I'm not sure we'll be back for several years...at least 2-3 (probably more) so then for sure it's not a good option. For sure, planning 11 months out won't work either.

:sunny: Morning everyone. :sunny:

:surfweb: nothing new on the major sites or passholder. Don't think anything will be out possibly till after June 4th (end of booking for free dining). But would love to be proved wrong. ;)

I'm with you, mky. I checked everything this morning, too, but I feel like if anything will be released, it will be after the last date to book free dining, and I'm still afraid it will skip June...at least!

I'm trying to stay optimistic for everyone who is going in June (we're early-mid July) but yesterday was the first day I went to work without bringing along my Passporter with all of my spreadsheets and ressie information!

Here's hoping for some news soon!

Good morning! We had some major thunderstorms here in S. FL last night! I was woken up by a flash of lightning at about 3:30, and have pretty much been up since!!! It's going to be a long day. But at least we got some much needed rain.

I'm going on June 4th-9th. Unfortunately, I can't go a day early to take advantage of the code then. But I'm still keeping watch, though I know the odds are not in my favor. Keeping hope alive!

We must be soul mates! I've been awake off and on since 1:41 am!
I'm gonna die today at work.
