June/July/August 2006 Code watch

Hello all! Count us in too for jumping on the code bandwagon. We just had to change our dates from Aug. 13th to June 6th(hubby's deploying again!). Right now, we are at rack rate. Keeping my fingers crossed for some type of general room discount for the public. Tink :confused3

Well the AAA discount is 15% for our Beach Club 5 nights 7/31-8/5.

That is a savings of about $45/night for Room only.

I think the AP code for last Summer saved a flat $75 / night for deluxe resorts.

So I guess the code would be worth an additional $30 / night if it's the same as in the past.

Every little bit helps!

Hi, If your DH is eligible for SOG(they are probably ALL booked for June?) you could try calling SOG and asking about OVERFLOW rates at any of the WDW Hotels. These rates are discounted, and I am going to try this today for 2 nites at the end of July. Joan

I have used the AP codes for our last few trips. We usually stay for about 2 weeks, so we have to buy the AP anyway. The discount is just a bonus.

Just curious, how many people use the savings to lengthen their vacation? In the past, we have applied the savings to an additional night in the resort.

Speaking about this possible promotion that we have guessed *may* happen, if its going into the press surely they will have deadline to have it to the printers for, probably sometime on Saturday, so perhaps there may be a leak :confused3 . Anybody know anyone working in the newspaper industry? :)

I do. In fact, I use the savings to take ANOTHER trip to Disney, which I won't be doing this year sadly - At least that's the way it's looking.

I know this is a different subject but if tourism is up and rooms are being filled. Hopefully they will finish the other side of POP(suites and standard rooms)

I am so discouraged over this AP room rate. A discount on a room is one of the perks of the AP. Why doesn't Disney just offer the AP discount when you book the reservation until those rooms are booked? I hate jumping through hoops :Pinkbounc . I feel like I'm tied to my computer to find out when codes are published then it's a race to see who can get a room before they sell out. We were booked at WL and changed to ASM due to my nervousness. I guess I'm disappointed because when we bought our annual passes, I thought the room discount was a done deal. :sad2:

If the codes are published, will they convert our current reservations to the AP rate?

If there's availability (AP rate) at the resort you want, then they will. I've done this several times now, once in a while having to change my view choice to what's available. We are booked at CSR and BC with AAA for a split stay and plan on keeping the ressie like it is, but I sure am hoping, along with everybody else, that some AP rates are released!!! Anytime now would be real nice.....

I was also using the AP discount to extend our trip. We stayed 4 additional nights last year. :sunny:

I don't think the Sunday release is for AP discounts. I am sorry to say it but I think there is something that will be published in the travel section of the newspaper and that would not be an AP discount. I think it will be a promotion that will start when the dining plan ends, so something for the fall.

IF we get an AP rate we do usually extend our stay. Sure would be nice this time as we are driving & a longer stay would make it seem more worthwhile.

So....... :wizard: to us all!

Well, I phoned Disney this morning. It's not good for us June people. The nice cm said that she didn't think there would be any discounts out for the month of June because it already mid May. She did say that this wasn't a guarantee and to just keep checking back. She didn't sound to positive though! :confused3

Joan S.- I tried the Shades Of Green and this is the second time that there hasn't been any overflow rates. They are just booking at Disney's rack rate price. This also happened to us in Jan. Is Disney not giving out any overflow rates anymore? Tink

We extend our trips too, with the savings we get. With the AAA savings I got for next month, I changed 3 of our nights to Concierge.

What I could do with even more savings! The fun I could have!
Lol - :rotfl:

That being said, next year at this time, they'll have them back. When they see the drop off in AP holder renewals, they'll realize, the "hit" they take in the discounts isn't worth losing their most repeat customers.

I hope that's right, but my gut tells me it's wrong.

In fact, I think WDW doesn't much care for AP at all, other than as a marketing tool to sell discounted rooms without undercutting their rack or minor discounted prices when they have rooms to sell. AP is entirley inconsistent too with the new preference for expiring passes. I think they'd be just fine seeing AP renewals go down while business stays good.

AP is a losing proposition for WDW, unless it's really true that many of these people will stop coming. I think WDW, at least for now, doesn't believe we will stop coming, and even if we do, I think it is now in a position of strength where even if we do, they will sell the rooms at rack or AAA rates.

Personally I don't think there are actually enough AP holders who won't book rooms or vacations to create a "hit" This board is skewed so it's not a represenative sample of your avg Disney vacation. (And even on the DIS boards, this thread is a "sub population" )

LOTS of APs are sold to Florida Residents, lots of whom live within day trip range. APs are also sold to folks like me who have the majority of thier vacations at DVC resorts or are in Orlando for other reasons (work) and just visit Disney in between meetings etc. Failure to release discounted rooms would not impact my AP buying habit and I expect that I am not alone...

We tend to upgrade our resort choice. I usually have a set number of days I can go, so the length of time isn't affected. It's just that we would stay at Poly instead of POR or POR instead of POP -- choices like that. Right now I have ressies for July 14 - 20 at POR; we'd like to stay at AKL though and will try to change if an AP rate comes out.

mouseaddicts- I just rec'd my park maps in the mail!!!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!! :sunny:

Hi, This would be the FIRST time I have ever heard of NO overflow rates! (AND -you would THINK with us STILL being in IRAQ WDW would LOOK to do something for all the men and women who SERVE,esp. the ones that HAVE to be apart from their families!) :sad2: ANYWAY,it was at least 2 years ago that I used OVERFLOW rates, so I guess I am not really in the LOOP! SORRY to lead you down a DEAD end path! But I do hope your stay is TRUELY MAGICAL and thank your DH for SERVING! (my DH is in the Military-Air Force, but he is in a non-deployable position) Joan

The most repeat customers are FL residents and DVC owners. Not the "I'll buy an AP if my discount comes out or maybe I'll just get one if they ask to see it at check in". I would wager that there are a lot of people here that don't have an AP and won't buy one unless they get a discount. No hit for Disney there. :rotfl:

I no longer live in Florida, but we return a bunch to visit family and...well, I admit it...just to visit WDW!! During all of our visits this past year, the only time we found the resorts to be full was over Memorial Weekend. Even Christmas seemed pretty slow. All Star Sports was nearly empty up through Christmas, and WL was far busier but rooms were available. Over our Spring Break, I bet POFQ was less than half full!! I know the buildings closest to us were pretty darn empty. Also, if WDW is starting to offer rooms on Priceline, I'd guess that they're having some problems keeping rooms consistently filled.
