June Exercise Challenge - 54 Challengers and 40,537 minutes completed!!!

I've loved doing the challenges these past two months, they've really kept me motivated! Thanks so much for being so encouraging, Cam! I so appreciate all the work you put into the challenges!

Thanks so much for hosting June, debbieandroo!

I'm excited for June and will set my goal for 1600 mintues. Thank you!!
Beth

Put me in for 1000 please. I just got the dog's wagon out of storage today in fact (she can only walk so far because of a medical issue, so I have only been walking as for as she can. Last summer, I plopped her in a special wagon when she was in pain and kept on truckin. She got 5 miles of sights and smells and I got the steps :woohoo:)

Additionally, if anyone has any tips for staying on target while on vacation, I'd appreciate it. At WDW I'm planning on bringing some hand weights for every other day, but there's no good opportunity for cardio, unless I count the walking around in the park. I think I will. :)

Last month we averaged over 10 miles of walking per day (11.9, 15.1, 13.7, 11.8, 11.3, 8.9- I wear a pedometer ;)) I dont know about you, but that is more exercise than I get at home, especially in that heat! The first day on the scale, I had gained a little less than 5 lbs from the trip. The 2nd day home I had lost 3 of those (water weight I guess). So 6 days of eating nothing but crap and I only gained 2 lbs! :woohoo: Well worth it

Well, I didn't hit my goal for May, but I want to keep the same goal. Please put me down for 1200 again! :)

I'm in!!

1000 minutes for the month please.

:banana: Our first challenger - congratulations!!!

I'm in again. I'll sign up for 1600 minutes.

:thumbsup2 Yay, great to see you again!

May I participate here as well? I am setting a goal of 900 minutes. That works out to 30 minutes minimum a day :woohoo: I should be able to manage that. Work days will be a real challenge, will need lots of :coffee:

:welcome:

This thread is open to all, newbies and veterans alike. Your goal sounds very doable - one thing I've enjoyed is learning all sorts of great ways to put exercise into my daily routine, like walking that 60+ pound boxer a couple of miles at night.

I'm in again but let's up it to 1400 this month. Good luck everone!

You go, girl! :thumbsup2

We're doing a step challenge at work so I'm going to do that (I'm glad you do percentages as the gauge)

12,000 steps a day * 30 days = 360,000 steps for the month, so that's my goal!

I'm glad I have a fitbit to help track all these numbers - it'd be hard to track without it!

I'm impressed, that is a big goal. I've been wearing a pedometer and am continually surprised at my number of steps each day. It'll be fun to see your progress.

I have never done a challenge on here, but I am recovering from foot surgery and after a month of doing absolutely nothing, I am determined to shed some weight. I am going to shoot for 1000 minutes. Wish me luck!

Good luck! You've come to the right place - this is truly an inspiring group of challengers who combat so many setbacks to get to their goals. Even if your foot doesn't let you do the entire 1000, at least you've started and that's HUGE! :grouphug:

I'm definitely in again! I'm going to aim for 1400 again.

:yay: So glad you're back!

OK... I totally failed last month. But I just realized I really need to start training for this half marathon I'm aiming to do in Sept. So, put me down for 1000. Who knows... maybe I'll exceed it?

Ugh... I feel sluggish... can't wait to get back to working out and having energy again!

Now, in my book, failure does not mean 'sign up for a half marathon three months from now.' Good for you for doing that - I can't wait to hear about all of your training progress this June. I have a feeling that you'll blow past those 1000 minutes pretty quickly.

And isn't it cool to know that exercise is such a great remedy for that sluggishness? I used to just eat chocolate to get rid of that feeling - now, I go walking....then I eat the chocolate.

I have two days of Special Olympics events this month where I will be on my feet for hours and hours, carrying food, serving, running back and forth for supplies. I should be able to hit 2000 minutes this month if I do all my regular workouts too. So, please put me down for 2000.

Thank you, Debbie, for hosting!

That's so neat that you're a part of the Special Olympics. And I read on another thread that you're training for the Disneyland half this September - how fun will that be! Hope your knee behaves itself this summer.

Yay! This was so helpful last month.

Okay, in May I started with 600 and had to up to 800. June will feature a lot of traveling - to Disney!! and a few other places, as well as school starting again. So I think I'm going to revert to 750 - challenge myself to keep up with the pace I have set, but realizing I may not make it.

Additionally, if anyone has any tips for staying on target while on vacation, I'd appreciate it. At WDW I'm planning on bringing some hand weights for every other day, but there's no good opportunity for cardio, unless I count the walking around in the park. I think I will. :)

I definitely think you should count walking in the parks - I sure did! Especially putting that heat and humidity into the mix - maybe that should count double! :) I hope you have a wonderful time.

Thanks for hosting this month, debbieandroo! :thumbsup2

Cam - super huge thanks for all of your work the last couple of months! You have been very inspiring. :goodvibes

Cam has left HUGE shoes to fill!

Hello!! Please put me down in June for 1000 minutes. I did so well in May until the last two weeks :confused3 But it worked so well pushing myself!! Now this month I'll be going thru a move at the end, but that just means I'll be doing lots of vigorous cleaning!! Good luck to all.
Thanks,
Lynda

That's another thing I like about these challenges is that they start over at the beginning of every month, kinda like starting a new journal. And I think vigorous cleaning definitely counts as exercise. Congratulations for wanting to get back to it.

I'm going to try again, back from vacation, getting over my cold/cough and for once want to meet my goal for one of these challenges!!

I'm in for 700 minutes.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for hosting debbieandroo!

I hope you feel better soon - those blasted summer colds seem to last way too long. And I hope you had a great time on vacation.

I am in for 1600 again. Thanks!:goodvibes

woo-hoo! :yay: [hey, if I post enough jumping smilies, would that count as exercise? :)]

I'd like to join and am in for 600. :goodvibes

:welcome: Look forward to reading about your progress.

I would like to join and do 600 for the month. I think that this will be a great challenge to jump start my exercise. :goodvibes

:welcome: My first challenge was in April but I had started exercising regularly in January. I was surprised at how the accountability of posting my minutes made me that much more motivated to exercise. I hope this does the same for you.

What a sweet story about your tired puppy - you are a great mommy!

I wore my pedometer to WDW but accidentally reset it a couple of times - boo. In the end, I just estimated my time in the parks then divided it in half to calculate how long I walked that day. But I felt every mile that my pedometer didn't record.

Well, I didn't hit my goal for May, but I want to keep the same goal. Please put me down for 1200 again! :)

Good for you! Not giving up is already a measure of success, right?

We have 20 challengers so far and June hasn't even begun!

I'll go for 2000 minutes again, as long as my power walking pup and I don't get too hot on our nightly walks.

Here's a newbie thread-starter question -- how do I edit the thread title to include the number of challengers?

Thank you again, everyone, for joining in. Despite the blanket of heat here in the Mid-South, I'm excited at the prospect of staying as active as I can.

For the April challenge (I missed May), I think I completed 1200 minutes of exercise. Since I will be turning 55 on June 1 :scared1:, I think I'll bump that up to 1600 minutes for June. :scared1: :scared1:

Thanks for doing this for us, debbieandroo!

I think you can edit by going to your first post and click on the Edit button at the bottom right of your post. Of course, I could be wrong - it's been a while since I've done this. :rolleyes1

To edit the title you hit the "edit" button and then hit "go advanced." :thumbsup2

Put me in for 1000...I will only be here until June 23rd and then it's PCC3.0 and then a week at Disney! Can't wait! I will definitely reach my goal by then!

I'm in again for June! Please put me down for 1200 please. Even though I didn't quite make my goal last month, I feel certain I will do it this month!

Thanks so much for hosting the thread this month, Debbieandroo!! It sure does help to have encouragement along the way!

I'm in again.

I'm traveling some this month, so after looking at the calendar, I came up with 1500 minutes of exercise I thought I could fit in.

But I don't want to take a step back in goals, so count me in for 1600 again.

I'll find the extra couple of hours to run somewhere.

Ted

I just bought the zumba DVD set...I am so very excited about it. I'm sure it will help me hit my goal this month. :)

Good luck everyone!!!

Please put me down for 1200. :)

I just posted my final number for May and came up just a little short: 1145/1200. I am determined to make my goal this month. :thumbsup2

Happy Birthday tomorrow! Looks like, from all the races on your signature, you're not letting anything slow you down. I'm especially impressed at the 100K bike ride in Texas in summer. :worship:

I'm in Memphis, just a hop, skip and jump from you Razorbacks. In what part of AR are you? I'll be traveling to the gorgeous Ozarks in a few weeks.

I've got to get moving again. Put me down for 1000 for June. Thanks!

Thanks - the 'go advanced' was the part I missed. Now, if you could help me with all of my other computer problems...:rolleyes1

I'm in for 750.

Hi, Heather!

Put me in for 1000...I will only be here until June 23rd and then it's PCC3.0 and then a week at Disney! Can't wait! I will definitely reach my goal by then!

TTFN :tigger:

1000 minutes in 23 days - that's a great average. What is PCC3.0 and should you count those as minutes? You should definitely count Disney, especially in the summer.

I'm in again for June! Please put me down for 1200 please. Even though I didn't quite make my goal last month, I feel certain I will do it this month!

Thanks, Ted. Glad to see you back this month.

I just bought the zumba DVD set...I am so very excited about it. I'm sure it will help me hit my goal this month. :)

Good luck everyone!!!

That is so cool - I'm tempted to get the DVD from the library but wonder if I might hurt myself doing that! I am horribly uncoordinated. You'll have to let us know how much you love it.

Since we're starting "summer" I'll keep my goal at 2500

Unless you don't walk much you can just count the time walking as exercise. I went to NYC last week and walked 8-9 miles/day and lost 3 pounds living on restaurant meals and cheesecake (and alcohol). If you are more of a relaxed vacationer you could sneak laps into the pool, situps before your shower and walk the long way to get places. Really though, it's a vacation so don't wear yourself out. Good luck!

You blasted through May so I know you'll do well, even in the summer.

Please put me down for 1200. :)

Yay, Laura!

I've got my new exercise ticker made up and ready to go!! :cool1:

That is a great idea - I might have to borrow that one from you, if you don't mind.

Hi there!

This will be my first challenge ... please put me down for 1200 minutes! It will be nice to have the extra motivation!!!
