June cruise...how formal for dinner?

As I have been reading through postings, I have noticed that some of the dinners are formal (which I did read about in my dsl cruise book) but how many dinners are formal? How formal should men and women dress? Can anyone give us insight? We are not going until next June for our honeymoon, but would like to know what we need. (Summer sale season at the mall is soon.)

There is one "formal" night and one "semi-formal" night. Any time you dine in Lumiers or Palos, a jacket is required. I rented a tux through Disney (you get a brochure with your documents) for my husband for about $100.00 including shoes. He wore it two nights. But if you don't like getting too dressed up, there were folks who didn't have jackets and they didn't enforce the rules.

It depends on which cruise you want to go one. The 3/4 day cruises don't have an offical Formal night but as the other poster said, the 7 day has one Formal, one semi-Formal.

You will see ALL sorts on formal nights. I wore a formal on Formal night, and a nice pantsuit on semi-formal night ( although, on semi formal night, we only lasted through appetizers. Seas were rough and we were sick.. ) anyways, some women wore cocktail dresses, sunday dresses, fancy formals, sundresses.. Some even wore SHORTS.. and men wore tux's suits. dress slacks and shirt w/tie, some without. You REALLY see all sorts. On semi-formal nights, it's more casual, BUT still dressier than "normal" nights. At least it's what we experienced.

We saw all kinds of attire on the June 15 cruise. On formal night (Sunday), some men had tuxes, but most wore suits. Some men came without jackets and some came in shorts and (collarless) t-
shirts. Semi-formal night was less dressy than formal night, but slightly more dressy than other nights (many wore Sunday or work dresses).

On the other nights we saw several people (men, women, kids) in shorts in the dining rooms. Even in the fancier restaurants (Lumieres and Palo), several men dined in golf shirts without jackets. We also saw two women in Palos in shorts and t-shirts.

The attire was most fun on tropical night (Tues)!

We were on the June 8th western cruise and definitely didn't see that many men in tuxes, most were in dark suits. This was our first seven day and was expecting to see more tuxes, but it my own opinion, the whole formal night thing seemed to have been downplayed a bit. Don't get me wrong, if you want to dress up, by all means go for it! But either way you won't feel out of place. We had Lumieres on the non-formal nights and still didn't where coats (and didn't see a lot others with coats either). If we had that would have meant four nights in coats for dinner with our rotation (yuck!!).

Quite frankly I could do without the whole formal night thing. Understand that some people like it, but it's just not my thing . I had to wear suits for a number of years for work and now we've all gone business casual. Don't miss the suits a bit .

We were on the 5/25 Western, and although some people did the formal and semi-formal attire, there were many others in casual wear, including jeans (of course, we have seen people in jeans at Palo on the three-day cruises...personally, I think that's tacky, but to each his own!). Hubby and I brought our formal wear, as we enjoy dressing up on the cruise, but you would be pretty much comfortable in whatever you choose to wear.
