Boma, dinner, 6.12.09
Ah, I must apologize for being away for so long! Seriously, I'm so so so sorry! Life has been getting in the way! Anyway, so yes, dinner at Boma. My first time to have dinner there (had breakfast before) and I was so so so looking forward to it! And it did not disappoint! I arrived from Epcot to the AKL at around 8:30 and checked in. I headed to the bathroom, and my pager went off right away! Awesome! I was seated, and I took some pics of the restaurant.
I also snapped a pic of the page of the drink menu of the drink I was getting. I've had it before, and I really do enjoy it. It's the Fusion Lemonade
First picture is She Crab and Coconut Curry Seafood Soups
Absolutely loved both of these! I'm a seafood lover, so this is no surprise. And as much as I dislike coconut, this soup was still good to me. The coconut was subtle enough that I still enjoyed it very very much.
Oh, and then my drinks arrived. My alcoholic Fusion Lemonade and my included in the price of admission...plain old diet coke. Yeah, awesome
Next up, some more soups. Lamb potje and butternut squash soupl
Pretty much, I wanted to try almost everything (other than beef, cuz I don't like beef), so I tried these out. The Lamb soup was alright, not a fav. But the Butternut Squash was sooo good! Nice and creamy and butternutty. I love that vegetable, so it's not a surprise I loved the soup.
Next up, I decided to try out some of the salads. So first we have an apple and jicama, then a fried platain and corn, and finally, a spinach and quinoa.
I don't remember too much about any of these salads. Although, I do know that I love quinoa and I enjoyed that one very much.
Again, I went back for a taste of some more salads. Watermelon rind, and some sort of pasta salad. Some fruit, then a couple of types of hummus with pita to dip in it. There was some sort of olive hummus, but I hate olives, so I didn't bother with that one.
I've heard great things about the watermelon rind, but well, it wasn't to my liking. Too bitter I think. The pasta salad was okay, as was the fruit. I do love hummus, so this was a nice treat.
Next plate, I decided to try some of the "main" fair. From 11pm going clockwise, we have Potatoes with Afritude, Pork Shoulder w/Boma mustard, mealie bread, salmon w/coconut curry sauce, marrakesh couscous, Pap and chaka laka, and fufu in the middle.
Honestly, it's been a while. I really should do these reviews faster. But I do remember loving loving loving the couscous marrakesh. This may be because I love couscous and vegetables, but there you have it. I think I liked the fufu as well. I need to take better notes. I wrote down what everything was, but not if I liked it or not! Next time, I promise to be better!
Okay, so I still wasn't done. Not even close! Next plate, from about 7 oclock we have blackeyed peas with ginger sauce, some sort of yellow rice, roasted vegetables, corn and spinach pudding, and some sort of roasted chicken in the middle.
Yum yum yum! Blackeyed peas I just wanted to try, they were okay. Rice, you can't go wrong. I love my veggies, so these were good. But let me tell you, I do remember that corn and spinach pudding. It was like something that should have been sweet, but it was savory. I can't quite place it, it was like a cornmeal mixed with a pudding, and oh my goodness, it was delicious! I want to go back to Boma for this dish! So so good! Oh yeah, I had chicken on this plate too. It was chicken. Honestly, nothing I remember at all.
Yeah okay, still not done eating. I got me another cup of the coconut curry seafood soup. Honestly, really don't like coconut, but this soup was just that good!
One more trip for dinner food, all of my favs! Couscous Marrakesh, corn and spinach pudding, mac & cheese (i'm a kid at heart!!), and some more hummus and pita.
Like I said before, that corn and spinach pudding was out of this world good! And I'm a hummus kind of girl, so yeah. This place was the bomb for me!
Oh let's not forget desserts! I've had zebra domes before (from the mara, not from boma, so it may be a weeee bit different), but I was so looking forward to them anyway!!!
On my dessert plate, we have banana bread pudding w/vanilla sauce, a fruit tart, peach cobbler, 2 zebra domes, and a pineapple upside down cake
Bread pudding was okay, but no where near Ohana standards. The rest of it was okay. Zebra domes were a little melty, but still delicious.
Overall, excellent dinner with excellent service.
And afterward, I decided I needed to go the MK night time EMH. Silly, I know, but I've loved them in the past. Ended up being way way way too crowded for my liking, but I was glad I did it anyway.
Especially cuz I ended up getting these from a wonderful Cast Member who just happened to have a few goodies in his pocket...
That's right...I was going home on the 15, these were good til then, SCORE!!!! Ended up using them the next day, my last day at the MK. Ah, heaven!!!!
Apparently, I ended up going on Small World. Since I force myself to go on it once per trip. It's nostalgic. And all that kinda stuff.
I left before the EMH was over, since it was way too crowded for my liking. Ah MK EMH at night during the slower season is so much more worth it! Can't wait to go back in October!!! Main Street on the way out
next up: lunch @50's Prime Time w/my fav waiter!!!
