June 8, 2011 – Mediterranean

We are heading to Paris post-cruise (Happy 40th bday to me!). We rented an apartment in the Saint Germain des Pres area. Maybe we can meet on the cruise and I could get some tips! The info is overwhelming when you add it to all of the cruise ports--my head is spinning. Thank goodness for this board and cruise critic. It really is invaluable.

The only change that I noticed in the itinerary is that Naples is 8:30-7p instead of 9p. That shouldn't affect our plans too much. We have a tour booked with Simply Amalfi and we were scheduled to be back by 5pm.

Can't wait for June 8th!!

We will also be heading to Paris post cruise as a happy 40th! :woohoo: Happy birthday, when is it exactly if you don't mind me asking? Mine is sail date, June 8th!:yay:

I'm sooo jealous that some (if not most, lol..) of you guys are going to Paris/London Pre-Post cruise! We originally plan to go either of those places but DH is hesitant to take more than 2 weeks off from work (he has about 4-5 weeks of vacation :confused3) so we just decided to take 3 days pre cruise stay in Barcelona.

I can't believe we're less than 2 months away!! :banana::banana::banana:

We had originally planned to stay in Barcelona for three days as well, then I began snooping for prices to get to Paris and found it more than doable, you should look. For example, we booked a very cheap flight with RyanAir that leaves out of Barcelona in the early evening on Sat (so we'll have Sat to check out Barcelona), and arrives in Paris. Then we'll fly back to Barcelona Monday evening to leave for home on Tuesday. We plan on doing DLP on Sunday and touring Paris all day Monday. If you want more specifics, PM me, I'll give you more details. I know there's also the overnight train option ???
I just hated being so close and not getting to go to DLP. :)

Hope you can make it.

We are GTY too. There is still a lot of availability on the cruise so I am guessing we aren't going to know till much nearer the time.
Wishing for that upgrade :thumbsup2

My theory is, the more availability the better chance we have at an upgrade :thumbsup2 Right?!?! Crossing my fingers for some pixie dust!! pixiedust:

We are doing Paris pre cruise as MY happy birthday. My birthday is the 6th ... but I'm not turning 40 (yet ;)) I can't wait to spend my bday at DLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banana::banana:

We booked last night! Dreading the flights with two small children even though it's so short. Will be back soon to catch up and no doubt with some questions as we're so late to join!

Hi Kit

How old are your children? My little girl is nearly is 3 but we have flown to Europe with her when several times since she was 10 months. Do you have a portable DVD player? She sat and watched that the whole flight.,It was a life saver!

I have been on two cruises with Disney before once back in 2000 andwe went round the Baltic last year. I'm thinking of the same things for packing but seen as we won't be doing any excursions we should be ok with minimum stuff. I'm only 5'3 so I know what you mean about the maxi dresses some people where wearing ball gowns on the last cruise. We are going back on the same cruise on the 29th June so it should be warmer then for us :)[/QUOTE]

2 disney cruises in June?
Nice one :thumbsup2
I'm not at all jealous.......... !

Hello :wave2:

Our party will be me and dh, dd 18 months and ds 4.5. I am envisaging the worst I think as dd doesn't sleep at night and ds is a horror if his sleep is interfered with! So the very early flight fills me with fear as either way we'll have to disturb their delicate pattern! I think that once we get to the 'plane bit ds will be fine, we have the technology to keep him plugged in lol. But the whole baggage/ seucrity thing? And how to keep an 18 month old strapped in for take off?? I'm almost changing my mind - I'm a nervous flyer!!

Also any advice on the luggage front. We've never flown with EasyJet before so I have no concept of how many clothes etc we can actually take for our allowance. I don't really mind as its easy on board but I can see a lot of :laundy: for me! All these little details and still the ports etc to think about. TBH we will probably just chill on the boat and let Disney give us a break rather than tearing around in the heat. That said we don't want to miss a gem of a trip!

Is it still a quiet cruise? DH was panicking on the phone last night as the girl kept saying ooh that rooms gone now, oh hold on, no thats gone too. But when he actuallly said can I have some room numbers to choose from in the category .... there were loads.

Oh and whilst I'm writing my first essay the Castaway Club thing has daft rules. We will have totalled 30+ nights but still class as Silver .... we could have done a handful of tiny cruises and been promoted!

ttfn :-)

Yes we are very lucky I to am taking the portable DVD player my daughter went to dlp last year with her dad and didn't take it but I thought better to be safe than sorry. Welcome kit nice to see that there is going to be more young children onboard. My daughter is called Tegan she's going to be 4 1/2 when we travel. She loved it last year. How old are your children kit? Maybe are lil ones will become friends in the club :grouphug:
I can't believe it's less than 8weeks till we will all be on the magic :cool1:

We too are with easyjet. I know what you mean about about sleep we have to leave for the airport at 3:45am hopefully my daughter will sleep in the car :)

We are flying in the day before to avoid the very early wake up time as I worried then it would set her off on an early wake up time for the whole holiday! We are flying Easyjet and have done several times with no problems. Regarding luggage, buy one of those luggage weighing scales from the 99p shop or just hold your case and stand on the scales to weigh it. The allowance per case is plenty, it is just that you have to pay per case. We are just taking the 2 cases for the 3 of us as it's all we'll be able to lug around. Remember also that you can have only 1 piece of hand luggage per paying passenger. So if you have a small handbag and the babys change bag, that counts as 2 and you'll be charged extra! If you put the handbag inside the change bag it'll only count as 1!

What are you doing in Corsica? The worlds third largest tourtoise sanctuary (Europes largest) is there near Vero. Also the small gauge train goes up to the mountains. The Disney cruise tour goes there, but not to A Cupullata the sanctuary. These are sights outside of Ajaccio. Also, Jacques Cousteau did some things around Corsica. They do not seem to have tour companies like other places, only DCL which is very expensive. Please give me some information if you have ever been there, or who to contact?:cheer2:

Welcome! So excited to have other little ones on the cruise. We are sailing with DD age 3!

Does anyone have any good recommendation for a City Map for Barcelona and Rome?

Try Streetwise or Easymap... both are easy to use and available at Barnes & Noble. I have both and they are very easy to follow.

Mine is May 18th...so I'm older (and wiser?:):):)) We are flying on Vueling airlines around 12:45 , so we have booked a private transfer to the airport. I was worried about standing in the queue too long for a taxi.

Happy birthday to us! Cheers!

I've been trying to figure out our transportation between Barcelona airport to the hotel to the port to the hotel to the airport and it's coming up to almost 300 euro :scared1:

For those not going directly from the airport to the cruise .... does this sound right or am I looking at all the wrong places on the internet?

Have you checked out taxi fares? Someone posted this on the main forum....
http://www.worldtaximeter.com/ , and just use this as a guide. I think taking a cab is a lot cheaper than private transportation, unless you have a big family and will split the cost. From what I read here at the boards, Taxi fare from airport to hotel would be around 25-35 Euro. So far we plan to take a cab from Airport-Hotel-Port, what i'm worried about is from port to Airport, I read that It takes a while to get a cab at the port due to long lines.

Us too! We fly out of Barcelona on the 19th. We are planning to go to Montserrat on the 18th (fresh off the cruise). The idea is to drop our luggage at the hotel then head to Montserrat late morning.

I think we are going on Sunday the 19th and making a day of it since I had read that some shops and restaurants close on Sunday. We will spend Saturday in Barcelona exploring the city and hopefully picking up little gifts to bring back home.

So who else is GTY? I know it's early but I've been checking for a cabin number at least twice a day.

Impatiently waiting for cabin number :rolleyes1 and hoping for an upgrade :thumbsup2

Thanks for the link. I'm afraid if we take a cab, we'll have to to take 2 cabs because we're 4 people with 4 large suitcases. Hotel to Port and back would be ok as 2 cabs ... still cheaper than hiring a car service. The trip back and forth from the airport though might not work out so well.
