June 8, 2010 WONDERful 5 Day Key West Cruise

I have been wondering what we would do in Nassau too...wish we could do Atlantis but can't afford Disney's prices and Comfort Inn only has suites (last I checked) for $400+ a night to get the wristbands. Any suggestions on something inexpensive there? Is it worth it just to go to Atlantis to see the hotel/casino? (I know you have to pay for everything else) I hate to get off the ship and just wander..with no real plan. Megan also wants to parasail...which is better for that - Key West or Nassau? (she doesn't want to do it at CC) I guess I have to spend some more time researching the port activities on my own. ...we are...counting the minutes!!!!

You can kill a little bit of time at Atlantis but not the whole day without an excursion. The hotel is beautiful the shopping is High End for the most part. There are dolphin and sea lion excursions there if that interests you just book directly through Atlantis. If you go to the hotel take the time to at least walk through the marina its unbelievable the yachts that are docked. There is also a great pizzaria there I would recommend highly. Good luck I hope you find something fun to do in Nassau.

Thank GOD!! Work is ...well working me to death!:headache: Does anyone have any plans for the night before the cruise at the port? We did RonJon's and ate at a great italian rest last time. Thinking of doing a little look around, any ideas?

This is our first time staying at the port, and we've no idea what we're going to do the night before. We love Italian food, so where was the restaurant ? near Ron Jon's at Cocoa Beach ?

the reataurant is next to or more like right in the raddison parking lot and I think our hotel (country in and suites) is next to the raddison. So it's really close. RonJon's is a little bit down the street.

Hi everyone, it's really getting close now! I set up the photo website with an email I rarely check, so I never saw your requests to become members of the site. Sorry about that - everyone that wanted to be should be a member now! I finally graduated and we can't wait to relax now :)

2 weeks to sail away party is sounding better all the Time. We are thinking about the jet Ski's in castaway cay and DS said he saw something about a high speed boat. still undecided in Nassau if worse comes to worse we may just walk around and hit the shops close by how far away is the Hard Rock cafe

we were going to go to Atlantis, but I canceled the aquarium because it was going to cost $120 to see fish! :rotfl:I know it's a pretty resort but we are going to tour Nassau instead. Last time we did the pirate museum with the kids, but I want to walk the Queens stairs and see some more of the older buildings. Plus Clinton actually loves the straw market!! So I get to hear "hey lady" a million times!!!

That's why we aren't doing it either. We have passes to SeaWorld, that's plenty of fish for me! And a couple of roller-coasters to boot!! Is the Straw Market a close walk from the ship?

Ahh I understand, I was thinking of the Ron Jon's store not the resort, thanks for the info, I'll let hubby know how close that restaurant is :)

The Hard Rock Cafe is very close to the port, just a 5 minute walk up the road ::yes::

The Straw Market is close too, you can usually see it from the ship :thumbsup2

** Only 13 days till our 'Where Has the Rum Gone ?' Cruise !!! **

We didn't book any excursions for Nassau either. The only one we wanted (beach day at Blue Lagoon? can't exactly remember right now), was already sold out. :sad2:

Since this is our first cruise, we thought we might just have more fun staying on board and enjoying the ship(I was trying to talk my DH into the rum tasting or the cigar rolling class- but he's a no go for either). The kids are just excited about the cruise, although they would love to do an aquarium. We just don't like the price of that excursion.

Good morning all! I meant to respond yesterday - I agree totally about enjoying the ship and I think my kids would agree too!!! Last year on our cruise DS10 didn't even get off the ship in Cozumel! If the port means just walking around and shopping (which is what we might do in Nassau) then he would much rather hang out at the Kid's clubs on the ship!! We are still thinking parasailing for Megan in Key West and we might rent one of those electric cars for a few hours. We love the ship so much...we just wish there were a couple more sea days...actually wishing this was a 7 day cruise but hey! We are going on the WONDER in less than 2 weeks!!!!!:banana:
Straw market question - what kind of stuff do they sell there? I usually like those kind of places ...so if we can walk there and maybe to the Hard Rock cafe in Nassau..that might be our plan.
Have a great day everyone!! :goodvibes

Straw market is a big flea market type place. They have Tons of fake purses and misc tourist stuff. Never pay what they tell you, al ways haggle!

Goodness me I hated the straw market, it was so hot and claustrophobic in there (I don't know how anyone works in those conditions). My DD saw a lovely bag in there (like Debbie says all fake designer brands), but she wasn't prepared to haggle

I suppose we'll have to prepare ourselves for the constant 'Hey lady, do you want your hair braided' or 'do you need a taxi' once we get out of the port. I'll be glad of a cocktail from the Hard Rock by then :rotfl:

I hope you're all having a good day :)

I know what you mean Mandy, I like those kind of places in small doses...but I am a shopper at heart, :lovestruc so I am willing to put up with almost anything to get a good deal! I will be ready for a drink afterwards too!!!

That's what I like to hear :rotfl: What kind of things are you hoping to buy ? :)

Well...nothing in particular! What ever strikes my fancy!! DD Megan loves purses and I can always find something I want!! DS Evan is NOT a shopper however (what 10yo boy is, right?) so if we go to the market, I am thinking he will definately stay on the ship. Still wish we could go to Atlantis however...they would both love it.

Clinton says we HAVE to go to the entire market....even though it's all the same stuff over and over  Last time I walked in and down one aisle and walked right back out! The sales people drove me nuts! Clinton loves that stuff and wants to walk every aisle since I didn't let him last time. I'm thinking maybe a few drinks first and the constant HEY LADY won't bug me sooooo much!:rolleyes1

:surfweb: Spending a little time today looking at excursions, etc in our ports. Sooo...just looked at reviews and pictures of the Straw Market on Tripadvisor (love that site!) and well, maybe, on second thought...we won't go there. I don't mind aggressive sales people and I kind of like knock off purses, etc. but this place does look kind of gross. So I looked at the Blue Lagoon beach adventure (half as much if you do it on your own vs. DCL of course) but that looks kind of like CC..we can't afford the dolphin thing so I don't think we need another beach day (not that there's anything wrong with that!!). So now I am wondering about just DH and I going to Atlantis to look around and stop in the casino....not my thing, but DH does like to play Blackjack..I hate to take the kids there and not be able to do the waterpark. So who knows what we will do in Nassau!?? :confused3 I would like to at least walk around a little to at least say we have "been to Nassau" so I guess we could always just hop back on the ship and the enjoy the day there after that!! :cloud9:
