June 8, 2010 WONDERful 5 Day Key West Cruise

On a lite note..i lost my big toenail at work yesterday...grrrrr!! I
You should feel better by next week! Believe it or not, this happened to DD in April, about 3 weeks before a dance recital. She was pretty freaked out! It was quite yucky for a while but she was able to dance on it -- what a trooper! It looks much better now. You can compare notes while sipping umbrella drinks!:thumbsup2

Good morning!
Well, I wish I could say it was a happy Friday morning for me, thinking about our cruise in just over a week, but I am struggling today...need to vent here a bit, if you don't mind. :guilty: I just got a phone call from our vet after a couple visits and blood samples and our dog is apparently very sick. I know it's a dog and not a person but she is a part of our family. (Bailey is a 7 year old chocolate lab - a big sweet mushy ball of love!) Apparently her platelet count is dangerously low and we are not sure yet why that is...could be a tick borne disease or it could be related to her kidneys, they just don't know. They are going to put her on heavy duty steriods and do further blood tests and maybe an xray to look at her other organs...?? I am beside myself. My kids are going to be hysterical. We are leaving on our cruise... I just hope we can get her started on the meds and figure out what it is...how to treat it, etc. We board her at the vet so that is the best place for her to be while we are gone... Anyway I am at work trying really hard not to cry. It sucks. Sorry to be a downer this morning but I can't help it. :sad1:

 I'm so sorry to hear about your poorly doggy. We had a Golden Labrador called Sammie and we were heartbroken when we lost her. She was 12 years old and she was the biggest softie in the world. We used to joke that if we were ever burgled, she'd be fine as long as they gave her some fuss :wizard: I hope the meds kick in soon and she makes a speedy recovery so that you are able to enjoy the cruise

On a lite note..i lost my big toenail at work yesterday...grrrrr!!:scared1: I hit it w/ our 10 ton safe door....pain!!!! then the toe nail came off and all I could think was, dang- there goes my pedi for the cruise!!! :headache: I think I may buy some disney bandaids to hide my gross toe.....hope that makes you all smile a little

 Ouch !!! Goodness me Debbie, that must've been so painful. Debbie with the Disney Bandaids - I know I'm going to remember you :rotfl2::rotfl2: Oh sorry, only teasing

Well I have just had an afternoon out with my daughter, we've just been to see Sex and the City 2, she's a huge fan, but as for me, I've never seen the TV series and I didn't enjoy the first movie, well this one was no better for me. She loved it, and that's all that matters, but all I can think is that that Carrie Bradshaw wears some dreadful clothes (nice shoes though :rotfl::rotfl:)

Have a nice weekend everyone :)

:yay: Mine are bagged up and ready to be packed this weekend :yay:

I'm trying to decide whether to bag ours up or just pack everything loose (which would take less space I think)...

I'm so sorry to hear about your doggie....Our pets are always family and so I can only imagine how hard this must be.

My mom did that to her little toe 2 days before my wedding (11 years ago). She had to wear some totally big comfy shoes (slippers), but she was even dancing at the reception. Hmm...I wonder just how many cocktails she had that day??:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

We celebrated my hubbie's bday today by going to see Ironman 2. For all you action-movie fans, it was quite action packed!! There was a preview for Prince of Persia beforehand. It looks quite good, and action-packed as well!

so many lost toenails!! :lmao: at least flip flops are my major cruise foot wear :goodvibes Next day off is Wed, Can't wait for the cruise:banana:

Good morning all!
Hi Jim - just saw that you guys are doing back to back cruises??!! That is so cool. My kids will be so jealous. My daughter says for sure she could spend a month on a DCL cruise! Me, not so sure! I love it but I am afraid they would have to roll me off the ship!! :rotfl:

Dog update for those of you who listened to my sad tale (tail) yesterday... They did an xray on Bailey and ran blood test to check for the tick borne diseases... the blood results are not in yet. The xray did not show any tumors or anything obvious so that is good since I know they are looking for cancer. She is on huge doses of steroids to get her platelet count up..and antibiotics... another blood test tomorrow. I am a little more upbeat today but still worried about leaving her in just a week. But by then we will have some answers and hopefully treatment will be underway.

I plan to start *packing planning* today...I am a slow packer but at least putting the things aside I know I will be taking is a start! The weather here in Chicagoland is absolutely gorgeous! Enjoy your weekend everyone!!! :goodvibes

You mentioned dance recitals. What kind of dancing does your daughter do? Both my kids just finished their recitals and are gearing up for their summer choreography rehearsals.
Also, I thought I saw another post about dance recitals...Andrea maybe? My kids love anything to do with dancing. :dancer::dancer:

Hi Kellie!
No, I didn't mention dance recitals but Evan is a musical theater kid! I would like to get him more into dance though, since it is such a big part of theater! What kind of dance do your kids take? Is your son about my son's age? Evan just turned 10 last week. Hopefully they will meet on the ship! :yay:

Hi Andrea,

My son, Hunter, is 10 as well. Both of my kids have been involved with dance for a number of years. Hunter does Ballet, Modern Jazz, Hip-Hop, and is venturing into Tap this year (to broaden his skills, he says). Jazz and Hip Hop are his favorites because there is so much freedom of expression, but he loves the leaps and lifting the ballerinas in Ballet. My daughter, Piper, does all the same disciplines; this is her first year trying Hip-Hop though.

Dance and Theatre go hand-in-hand, but I can't get Hunter to try acting. He loves being on stage and performing, but he says he doesn't want to "speak" to the audience with words. I think he's watched "FAME" one too many times.;);) Hunter and Evan would probably get along great. Can't wait to meet everyone!!

we had planned to do B2B but did not work out

hope the meds are helping the dog-any word?

 Woohoo !! We're into single figures at last

I can't believe that the first 5 night Cruise is setting sail today, those lucky things ::yes::

So, what will you be doing next Sunday ? We'll be heading to DHS for Star Wars Weekend, then in the afternoon I'm meeting some friends for a Lapu Lapu in The Poly before heading to Epcot in the evening :yay:

Andrea, I hope your doggy is starting to feel better

Have a great Sunday everyone :)

7 days (this sounds better than one week) and we will be starting our drive south. Just planning on grilling the next couple of days and getting started on the lawn so we are all caught up before we leave. minor packing starts Monday.Everyone can let the excitement begin.

Next Sunday I'll probably be frantically remembering everything I'm forgetting this week.... :rotfl2:

Nope, it was me! Our DD Lisa has been dancing since she was 5. She recently graduated from college, but danced all through college in a company at the University of Florida. We made a trip to Gainesville recently to see her last dance recital. It was quite emotional!
Enjoy your recital weekend! They are physically and emotionally draining but I can tell you from experience that you (and your kids) will remember them always!

Our DD's dance recital is this coming Saturday - hence us leaving at 0'dark-thirty on Sunday 6/6!! It's 2 shows and she's dancing in both - along with Jim, who's in the Daddy-Daughter dance in both shows! It'll be a long day for all of us, since I'll probably spend all day running back and forth between the auditorium and backstage! :rotfl:

Oh my, a week tomorrow we'll be getting on 'our' ship :yay::yay:

So, what will you be doing a week today ? :)

We're planning on going to either DHS or Epcot in the morning, then we'll be heading to the Country Inn and Suites at Port Canaveral via Best Buy next to the Florida Mall (hubby needs something for his camera), and I've no idea what we'll get up to once we get to Port Canaveral. Maybe we'll head to the Ron Jon shop at Cocoa Beach

Have a great Monday everyone ::yes::
