June 5,2010 Relocation Cruise

fingers crossed for you, will you be on the net after you fly out? let us know if you got there ok :)

oh btw: where did we decide the 10.30 meet the first night was? thinking its really gotta either be studio sea or promenade lounge, as otherwise the kids wont be allowed to come along.

I hope to be able to hop on the net with the Wifi feature on my iPhone. However, I will not be connecting to the 3G network! Dont want THAT big of a bill when I get home! If I make the CDG flight today, it is on a 767 and I believe we have them all equipped with inflight internet access now...so I may post from the air. Just please keep those fingers crossed! As of a few minutes ago there were still 6 hard seats and I should be no lower than number 4 on the non-rev stand-by list. That is not a lot of room to play with...but it is better than it being overbooked or something!

I vote for the Promenade Lounge. Since we don't know if Studio Sea will be doing some event...or loud Karaoke or something. So, let's say the far end near the computers? I will be the large man with a stack of Fish Extender packets!

Hello everyone,

We're also sailing on the June 5th relocation cruise (but flying in a day early to Barcelona to try to avoid the worst of the jet lag). I hope it's not too late to introduce ourselves and join you all--I've been reading this thread for a while but computer problems prevented me from logging in to post a message until now.

We're the Hughes family: I'm Krista, my husband is James, and our three children are Jamie (James, 12), Kira (11), and Ian (5). This will be our third Disney cruise, but our first time on the Magic and our first European cruise. It will also be Ian's first airplane ride and his first time in the Oceaneer's Club (he was 1 and 2 years old respectively at the time of our previous cruises). Ian is autistic and we're a bit worried about how much he'll be able to join in on at the kids' programs. We're hoping for the best.

We'll be celebrating 3 happy events on the cruise: our 15th wedding anniversary (June 3rd!!!), my husband's promotion to full professor (he's a college math professor), and my recovery from Hodgkin's Lymphoma (my last chemo was July 2009).

We'll be staying at the Hilton Diagonal Mar in Barcelona; wish we were going to be at the Novotel since we have fond memories of the Novotel in Windsor, England. Our stateroom number is 8532. I'm frantically trying to make up door decorations now--can anyone help me with making up graphics? I want to have at least one with our wedding picture but I'm not sure how to get text over the picture.

I can't wait to get onboard the Magic and to see everyone!
Krista Hughes

Hi Krista

We found an awesome door decoration a few pages back on this board - printed it on photo paper and it came out really nice.

We are also flying in early (we leave on Monday 5/31) and are staying in the same hotel as you. We check in on 6/1 so will be there a few days ahead of you. We are the Sroka's - try to find us when you check in. We have 2 girls (7 and 9) and this will also be our 3rd cruise, but ALL have been on the Magic. We've had such a magical time we don't want to change ships. Look forward to meeting you before the cruise. ;-)

Is your husband just using military id to validate his discount at check in? That's all the DU person says that we need, but I swear somewhere I saw we needed to bring DD Form somethingrather as well. Help!

Adding our name to this cruise! Heading to Barcelona this Friday for our 4th cruise! First time for my mother and we are all coming from Ireland - dd is 10 going on 11.

Read back a few pages, haven't been on in a while, anyone able to give me an idea of what night is formal, semi-formal and pirate night? Thanks and sorry for being so lazy! I'm sure it was already discussed!

Thx..

Moira.

hope you got on the flight scott :)

so the meet up on first night is 10.30pm in the promenade lounge by the computers. as scott is (hopefully) in the air at the mo, could anyone who upgrades/changes rooms at the terminal turn up to the meet, even if just for a couple of minutes, otherwise we wont know where you've gone, and you might not get your FE gifts.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for this, I know it's not hugely important but I love to know when pirate night is! We have two rooms in the Residence at the airport and they have a shuttle bus that drops us into the port on Saturday morning. Been to Barcelona twice before so we are just heading straight for the ship! Great excitment here in our house, have been reviewing the navigators from the 11 day Med and it's great to see what's on!

See you all in 6 days!

Nope, all we have ever used is his military ID - we will have his leave form along with us as well but they have never asked for it. This is our 3rd time using AD discount :)

Pirate night is the Lisbon day (night 5 i think)

i remember when i posted this a while back on here, there was talk of the guy that emailed me back got it mixed up and might be wrong. i'm not sure it is right, because it sounds wierd having pirate night on the last night.

as long as its not hugely oversized, i dont see them getting the tape measure out and saying you're an inch over the regulations! dont worry about it! worry about the excess luggage charges for all the stuff you'll buy on holiday!! ;)

yeah...but it's my carry-on....what if they make me check it :confused3

I have a call in to DH's best friend....he's an international pilot for US Airways....for advice :sad2::sad2:

you should be ok, i swear all my hand luggage is technically over the limits, but they've never checked, i think as long as its not stupidly over the size limit you should be ok.

scott managed to get on his standby flight! yay!

Hi everybody!
It's our first time on disney cruise and we have some questions before get ready to go aboard.

Firstly regarding the voltage. As US voltage is around 110v and ours is 220v, I've bought a converter? Does someone know if it's enough to plug in materials safely ?
Other important questions concerns the tips. Are we supposed to put US dollars in an enveloppe in the end of the cruise? How does it work? Because I'd like to know if I've to bring dollars on board or if a credit card is enough...

And finally, I'm wondering if the pool is warmed? And is there fire works every night? And a last question: What about Pirate's night? When is it, what is it,..

Thanks a lot to everybody for your kind help. Have a good night (yes, it's midnight here in Belgium).

Mickey Bars are the Mickey Mouse shaped ice cream bars that you can only get at Disney World and on DCL. If I remember correctly they are vanilla ice cream dipped in crunchy chocolate.

Almost all non-alcoholic drinks on board are free with a few exceptions. If you order a soda or juice in a bar there is usually a charge and there is a charge for espresso drinks in the Cove Cafe. In restaurants and from the large self-service drink fountain on Deck 9, they are free.

This will be our third cruise on DCL in three years and we keep coming back! I hope that you have an amazing time. Are you bringing children as well?

Adrianna

Hi Adrianna,
Thank you so much for your reply. It's really useful and kind from you.
We have no children yet. But I'm sure that as soon as we have a little child, we will choose disney cruise line !!!

Hi,

You are going to have a ball! I can help...

Re a converter, yes it is safe, we use one too all the time to charge laptop and camera charger when in US;

Re tips, you can use your credit card at desk services, they will give you a slip for your envelope to show you have paid tips and then you can give your envelope to your servers & stateroom host/hostess. No need to get dollars and have to pay commission;

Re pool, yes they are all warmed, very enjoyable!

Re Pirate night, ot sure what night yet but it's great fun, dress up as pirates (if you want to, no pressure!), great dinner menu then bbq later on, fireworks & dancing on top deck until late...

And only fireworks on this night normally, though there have been times where extra fireworks were on, first time in Barcelona, etc..

Hope this helps!

Moira.

Hey!!!!!

I don't post for a couple of days and the board goes Mad! Welcome to all the newbies to the thread. It is great that there will be more children. My dd is five (but desperate to be 10) and can't wait to meet all the others!

Hi cruisers, we are checking in from Normandy, we arrived here today for a three day tour - our own tour. We did not have free wifi in London, so no playing on the boards. we will see you all shortly in Barcelona.

Hope you enjoyed London and the journey down is easy for you, I will be really interested to hear what you have been up to.

Scott, I believe you made the flight  I bet you are relieved. On holiday now!!!! I will see everyone in the Prom lounge, whether other half and dd will be with me, I have no idea - probably be fast asleep! Can't remember where it is though, it seems like ages since we were on the Wonder and to be honest, it was all a bit of a blur, having done a week in WDW, we were shattered - missed most of what was going on! I too have an Iphone and believe as long as data roaming is off, you will be OK.

Feel a bit more organised now, house is in order ready for the house sitters, three bags are out of storage (clothes not yet in them) FE gifts done and labeled, although seem to take up more space than I thought - so hidden from OH and I will pack them sneakly amongst the clothes!!! Nearly all the ironing done (I have to do it all before I go away, even if I am not taking any of it!). All I have to do is cut the grass. Pray it doesn't rain tomorrow.

Phew!....

Susan, I know how you are feeling with the amount to do.

Karen, hang in there, only four more days to go (three for us, as we fly out Thursday morning). :woohoo:

Looking forward to meeting everyone at the Partyotel on Friday, or on board

Those that are setting of in the next day or two, have a safe journey.

Kate

Hi all, and hello to the newcomers :wave2:
Well, i've had a very productive day. The kids stayed at grandparents last night so we were able to make our FE. Dh did it and for a 1st attempt it looks great :yay:

Also, I wrapped and tagged all the gifts-how much space do they take up when they're put together???!

Went online to book DH's tux for formal night and when I saw that it was $95 we decided to pay £9 instead for an extra bag from EasyJet to take his own :lmao:

Have printed out everything I need for the trip and have even checked in online for our flights. Believe me, this level of organisation is unheard of for me- *whispers* I like it!

Is there a library on board? I need to plan what books to bring! I watched Julie&Julia tonight and loved it so that may be my holiday read.

For the Novotel gang, have you seen the pics on the May 5th trip report-the rooftop terrace looks great:thumbsup2

Thanks for this, it looks fab. I am feeling a lot happier about it having seen this.

I know how you feel about the FE Gifts. I have hidden mine from OH!!!!!

As for books, I keep meaning to read the Time Travellers Wife, so hopefully will get a chance. I am happy to exchange books with anyone, although I think everyone else will have read this except me. I do like a bit of Chick Lit too and love Katie Fforde books, so may look out for her new one!

I had forgotten about printing of the paperwork :scared1: Thanks for reminding me!. Another thing to add to the list!!!.
