June 5,2010 Relocation Cruise

Las Ramblas People?
We are renting an apartment in Las Ramblas, it looks pretty cool. We can have our own bar and dance party. I am not sure how we are getting to the ship. Any advice out there? Maybe the Novotel bus will pick us up.

We are renting an apartment in BCN also, we are still looking into which one.
I know it is getting close, but we have a backup plan with a hotel reservation.
We arrive in BCN 31 May!

We found our apartment through www.homelidays.co.uk

The transportation actually looks easy, ours is near Las Ramblas, .25 miles from the blue bus cruise transport. I will say there are a lot of unexpected fees associated with the apartment, but hotels for 4 were pricey too. We are going to appreciate the space for those few days! We get in early June 3.

(My OH will find this so strange - he thinks making friends on a mess. board is weird!) :surfweb:

Ditto on this! Maybe we could find a room for the grumpy husbands!
for the pet sitting link by the way. I have now managed to find someone close to us who will come in and feed them and make a fuss of them. Another job done!

Just a word of warning it is the Queens Official Birthday on Sat 6/12 which means London will be heaving as it is the Trooping the Colour ceremony!!

Held as part of Queen Elizabeth's annual official birthday celebration. The idea of marching the regiment's colors by the troops as a rallying point dates back to the 17th century and has been incorporated into the British monarch's birthday celebration since 1805.

Trooping the Colour is English pageantry at its best. Over a thousand brightly clad troops and hundreds of horses march the parade route, which extends from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall and back again. Hundreds of musicians and drummers add to the excitement.

The ceremony starts at 11 am, when the Royal Procession arrives and The Queen takes the Royal Salute as she drives slowly past the Royal Guards and the Household Cavalry. After the inspection, the Royal Family gathers at 1 pm on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch a flyover of RAF planes. It's all very impressive!

A great thing to see if you can get there but it makes London very busy.

Also I dont know if this will affect any of the coach tours around London as as you can imagine quite a few roads are shut off that day

WOOHOO! My daughter just woke up and told me "Daddy, three weeks from today we will be on a plane to Barcelona!"

see you guys soon!

Sinthia, glad to see you are bringing some more girls. We have twin 7 yr. old daughters, this will also be their 6'th Disney Cruise. Spoiled! Really it's all for mom and dad! We are not at either of those hotels. We plan on using the Disney bus with the castle tour to get back to London that you can only book on board. Makes me nervous not having it prebooked. Maybe the family driving their car to the port can cram my family of 4 in their car.

Do you know if this tour will drop you off in London at a hotel of your choice or does it have to be one of the DCL hotels?

We had reservations at the Casp 74 apartments for Sat June 5th. It is very spacious and new. A 10 min walk to Las Ramblas. Of course, I am cancelling this as I just added this repo cruise.

I tentatively booked a B&B in Dover for June 12th. Do you think the Queen's BD procession is something not to be missed? DS wants to see the Cliffs of Dover and I would like to tour Dover castle since we are right there. Do you think Dover is worth spending the night for?

Appreciate any feedback as I am not having time to research as I am still in the throws of finalizing all of our med plans. We are doing all DIY except for Tunisia. :goodvibes

Am I crazy to think it might be possible to do all of this on Saturday:

1. Get off the Magic
2. Get to London
3. Check into hotel
4. Go see the Queen
5. Get to Leicester Square for half price tickets to a matinee (hopefully "Sister Act")
6. Get to said theater
7. See "Love Never Dies" evening performance
8. Meet up for food and drinks with my work colleague's daughter who is in school in London
9. Sleep
:confused3

OMG!!! That is amazing!! Maybe we'll get to see at least some of it as our hotel is RIGHT THERE!!

Wondering how we can be added to the FE list and the roster?

Our information is as follows:

Orest (44 yrs old)
Sinthia (43 yrs old)
Zoe (9 yrs old)
Dana (6 yrs old)

We also booked a 12 GTY and was assigned Stateroom #6537, it's been a long time since we were in an inside stateroom without the split bathroom.

Has anyone been successful upgrading to an oceanview or balcony once they were on board? If so, what was the cost to upgrade?

Hi Jill,

Thank you for the warm welcome. You are absolutely right, it really is all for mom and dad. My daughters are excited about meeting your girls. I was concerned that there will be less children on board due to the timing. We are pulling the girls out of school for ten days.

I am also planning to book the post cruise tour that you can only book on board. I was surprised that we were not able to book the pre or post excursions online for Barcelona and London. I am looking at other options, but it looks like the transfer from the ship to our hotel will cost at least 200 GBP for a one way trip.

Thanks again and we look forward to meeting you on board.

hi sinthia! welcome to our meet thread!
i've only been on here since last week (booked a last minute deal) but everyone on here has been very welcoming and friendly!

Thanks Karen for the warm welcome!

Got you added to the list (see post 359). Welcome!

was just thinking about it earlier.
first cruise, for dinner, we had 2 couples as our tablemates, they were both really quiet, getting any conversation was like getting blood out of a stone. our servers were great and paid us a lot of attention because we actually talked to them, unlike the others. bottom line, we didnt enjoy the dining as much as we should have.
second cruise, we were sat with people from our cruise meet thread and had an amazing time.
would anyone on 2nd dining be interested in linking reservations so we can all sit with likeminded disney people?

FE up to 19 cabins! this is so much bigger than my last 2!

oh, and the world is getting smaller. turns out my manager and my ex assistant manager are both going to be on this cruise.

I think this thread needs an official name. Someone mentioned "Movin the Magic" Any thoughts?

On the door magnets I have "sailing the Magic to New Ports of Call".

Welcome sgawlak and sinnika. If sinnika lets me know the names of everyone in the cabin, I'll make a door magnet for you.

I also need cabin numbers. ThanksAlex

thats so kind of you to do magnets for everyone alex. even if people dont have time to make their own ones, they'll have at least one ray of sunshine on their door!!

Oh, thank you! OK, we are: Taina -DW, Kaitlyn - DD 14, Ben - DS 13. Unfortunately DH is leaving the ship after the med cruise as he has to go back to the office. I was on the phone and computer all of yesterday after our British Airways flight to Paris via London was cancelled due to the strike. We are now on direct flights to Paris from Houston via Air France, then going by overnight train to Barcelona after a few nights in Paris and Normandy. British Airways was kind enough to change my return flights and dates to the US to depart from London for free, that is why I was able to add this cruise! I have to call my TA and pay for my cabin this afternoon. We are doing a GTY 12 (going to be hard leaving our cat 4 from the Med ). As soon as I get my stateroom I will post. :goodvibes
Is this group planning a private Palos brunch? Would love to sign up if there is one. We are not doing FE's as we try not to carry anything other than essentials and need room for souveniers! :)

i havent heard any talk of palo's brunch but i'm intrigued!

i'm really looking forward to this now, in exactly 3 weeks, about 15 of us (give or take) will be in a bar in the novotel, toasting the upcoming cruise :drinking1
