June 5,2010 Relocation Cruise

Happy Monday to everyone!

I am not going to mention that Mr. Volcano is causing flight disruptions again...

Anyway, I reposted the FE list above. I am working on the spreadsheet right now and will get it organized in alphabetical order and get an easy to read count on the number of children vs. adults, etc.

A few questions:

When do we want to make the cut off for joining the FE list?

How does everyone feel about having a quick FE meet AFTER dinner on the first night? In my past cruises I find that the afternoon is so filled with getting on board, having lunch, getting the kids in (and out) of the pool, lifeboat drill, Adventures Away party, Welcome Aboard show, having dinner, unpacking........etc.......etc...... that is has been very hard to put together an effective meet. SOOOO.... What if we said that we will have a brief meet where just one person from your group is present at like...1030pm or so just to get any cabin updates and distribute the printed list I will have made? I will then put copies of the up-to-date list in my FE for anyone that could not make it. Of course, we can do it WHENEVER...but that was just my thought. What do you think?

As Lynn said, we give the FE gifts out sometime during the cruise. A day at sea usually has some time to do the FE gifts. Sometimes we do it the first day if we board early. We also tag our gift with our name. We like to see who gives us FE stuff. No set rules. Alex

Agreed! The important thing is that there are no rules! It is just fun, you can do whatever you are comfortable with. One gift, a few small gifts... I always tend to do my deliveries late at night. It is my favorite time on the ship anyway and I think it is fun to wake up and find that someone has left you a surprise. That being said, it is also fun to return to you cabin in the day to a little something too...

Hi Everyone

Busy weekend. Started putting out stuff to pack, but not made a list yet.

Thanks Yensid for the list, I am not sure when it would normally be closed, never having done this before. Would it be a couple of weeks before sailing? Bearing in mind that some people will be setting off travelling.

Meeting up in the evening sounds good, I expect my daughter will be fast asleep, probably otherhalf too, but I would be happy to have a wander and meet up.

It is amazing isn't it that all the adults on our list, there are only 7 children - if I counted right. Seeulater, I didn't count your dd in that!!!

Everyone keeps saying to me, 'Oh its a kids cruise isn't it?' and I keep telling them that no adults go on it on their own too! and this list proves that.

I am so looking forward to it. Other half, who would not get involved in anything like a FE normally, has actually come up with a few ideas!!! Although I am mainly going to concentrate on the children (oh and the young lady!).

Bode, my dd is only 5 and not into emailing yet!!! Sorry, maybe Gaby emails?

Susan, I hope the party goes OK and the weather is kind. Today has been freezing here.

I did want to ask all you experienced DCL cruisers here about dinner sittings. We have been put on second sitting, which I presume we could try and change if necessary. Bearing in mind we have a five year old, who will love the shows, how is it likely to work out, in your experience are we better staying with this?

Any thoughts would be welcome. Also, I can't remember on the Wonder, is there a pool the children can actually swim in, or is it just a splash pool?

Many thanks

Kate

Would love to do a FE meet, but we won't be there until Monday in Gibraltar, so we will miss it.

I have the First timers putting a magnet on our door that states we are arriving late so no one is confused when there is no FE hanging on Sat. or Sun. (Alex-I will have mailed to you this next week! Thanks for putting on the door for us!)

Linda

Evening meet sounds good to me also, my children, (in theory!) will be asleep by then so that suits me also......unless i've had one too many rioja's!

I would be happy with a 10-14day cut off for the FE, is this ok?

Kate, though not an experienced cruiser I had a couple of reasons for chosing early seating. My kids eat around 5.30-6, so this time suits. I also like the traditional pattern of dress, eat, go to a show/bar. It just seems to fit if you see what I mean? Also, eating together and food generally (!) is very important to us so I'd rather the little ones be more alert for that than the show. I've read loads of reports however that the children do just fine on the late seating....

Susan:)

sounds good to me

first night meet up sounds good to me too. we're on late seating though so probably wont get done til about 10.30 ish (based on previous cruises), is this going to be too late to do a meet though? if its just going to be a short, hi, how are you, here's the list then it'd maybe be ok, but would it be better to do it sunday morning (sea day) or before dinner on saturday? just thinking that theres going to be a good chance that a lot of people will have been travelling most of the day, so will be tired out by then? the last 2 cruises, we've gone straight to bed after dinner on the first night, by then we're nearly falling asleep in our dessert!
i agree with susan, 10-14 days cut off for the FE sounds good to me too.

kate:
the pools are the same as on the wonder, mickey (splash) and goofy (swim) pools.
if you're on first seating, you have dinner, then see the shows. if you're on second seating, you watch the show before dinner. we're on second, i just cant have a full meal that early, plus with early you tend to have to cut your day short as you need to be back on the boat earlier to get ready for dinner and the show.

I'm a little suprised at the number of kids on this, is this normal for a med cruise that there is so few?

for any of the "special" itineraries, there tends to be a much lower ratio of kids to adults than on normal cruises. and a LOT higher amount of repeat cruisers!

just being nosey, for the people in the UK, whereabouts are you travelling from? we live in southend in essex :)

Hello All,

I was thinking just a quick meet and greet to get any updates. Of course if anyone wants to then head into Rockin Bar D:woohoo:

Again, it would not be mandatory to participate or anything...just a place where you can get the list that I will have printed and especially to give any cabin updates. With those updates, I will leave a few copies of the list in my FE...so if you just aren't able to make it, no biggie, just swing by 7612 and grab a copy!

seaulater, you can also just grab a copy of the up-to-date list from my cabin.

In the highly unlikely chance that someone at DCL thinks that my airline employee discounted rate deserves an upgrade....:rotfl2:....I will try to leave something on 7612 saying that....If they will just give me the Walt or Roy Suite, we can just have a meeting there!

Anyway, back in realityland, we are also on the late dinner rotation, so I would also be coming once we are done.

If we want to have some sort of more "official" DIS meeting the next day, that would be cool too.

either meetup sounds good to me! i'm in the same situation as you yensid, would love an upgrade but seriously doubt my chances given the rate i got! and i'm still (impatiently;)) waiting for a room assignment!

 25 days til we sail!!

Me too. Got a travel employee rate, which I would think is similar to yours however, we are going to get to port early just to ask the question!

True...what's the worst they can say?

We don't have any kind of employee discount so I think we are getting the upgrade to the Walt or Roy suite!!

AWESOME! So....we just have all meetings in YOUR room! :rotfl2: Oh, by the way...I may be moving in...

Hi All,

Looking forward to the trip, starting to already get in panic mode with school ending etc. Just sent off to get family shirts made for boarding day...we will be the proud geeks in the matching white shirts with Disney sailors.

Bode, my girls are both 7, our kids will be in different clubs, but send me a pm and they can email over the weekend with my help. If they are too young, no problem!

Kate, You can change dinner time on board. Go to Rockin Bar D (I think) as soon as you get on the ship and get on the wait list. We usually get the phone call in our room minutes before the early dining starts. So just plan on getting dressed with the dinner change. Once through the ship entrance I go make all our changes immediately and meet the family after for lunch and pictures.

Yensid, Thanks for doing all the organizing...if I recall I think I got you into this! I am done shopping for FE gifts. So cut off soon is fine with me. It was interesting finding things for so many adult cabins! Meeting closer to 9:30 or 10:00 would work better for us.

We are still hoping to upgrade rooms at the port. Crossing my fingers we do not have to pay a fuel supplement instead of an upgrade!
(I'm still bummed with the half empty ship they put us in an 11) The inside rooms make me wheezy! I know I got a great deal.

Kids Clothes: Those of you panning on Disney Cruising again with size 5-7 girls, I'll have some custom outfits we will be done with after this cruise. I plan on ebaying them, let me know if you are interested first.

Jill :cutie:

LOL

Yeah, but I know what the guy said when I booked the cruise and then asked how much to upgrade to a Cat 9!!!!:eek:

Yensid, you upgrade and we shall 'fight' for your room!

Thanks for the replies re. dining everyone, looks like my first port of call on board is to change my dining time AND to try and book Palos. So much to think about!!!

See you in the Walt Suite then for drinks!:thumbsup2
