June 30 2012 NYC Anyone?

Hey Lorri!

I'm Jen and will be traveling with My husband and 2 girls 6 and almost 11 at cruise time along with my parents and my brother, his wife and 2 kids.. We are so excited!! :cool1:

We are going to be on the June 30th out of NYC as well and I am sooo excited! We have been to WDW a few times but this is our first cruise ever, so happy it's a Disney one :)

I'm Rhonda, I'll be travelling with dh and my 3 kids...ds will be almost 11, dd#1 will be 7 and dd#2 will be 4 at the time we go on the cruise. I'm happy they will all be able to be in the OL/OC together. I'm certain my ds will be happier in the OC/OL than moving up to the tween club.

I absolutely love planning our family trips, esp Disney ones so I'm already on top of this one even though it's more than a year away. I have picked up clothes, disney themed activity books, etc for the kids and put them away already LOL.

We had originally booked a 5 night on the Dream for June 29. Once the NYC itineraries were released we opted to move to this one since it's a shorter trip to get to the NYC port (we are travelling from the Toronto area). I'm happy because now we get an extra 3 nights on the ship plus I get to see NYC since I've never been there before. Depending on my dh's work schedule and how much vacation time he can take off, I'd love to head there a day or two early to walk around NYC, we'll see how that goes.

I'm a little bummed because my dh isn't super thrilled about this trip. He puts up with my Disney obsession (we've been the 2 of us pre-kids once and taken the kids to WDW twice already). He wanted to book this cruise because he knows that doing a Disney cruise was a dream vacation for me, and right now the kids are the perfect age. I'm hoping he falls in love with disney crusing once on the ship :)

So that's about it. I've already been cruising the disboards for info about the Magic, restaurants, etc. I'm hoping to book a dinner at Palo for dh and I. I wasn't going to on the 5 night cruise, but with the 8 night I figure we'll have more than enough family dinners that one evening can be spared for a date night :)

Yay, more people :)

rhondac, I am sure you DH would love the cruise. This is our second cruise and it is my DH favorite vacation. We go to Disney every year and he puts up with it because of us. :) He was a bit hesitant about the cruise, but still to this day he says it was the best vacation he has ever had! It is so much fun! I haven't done any planning yet! We are going to Disney in August and once we come back my planning begins:cool1::cool1:

Can't wait!!!!

Yea, I'm happy to see some more folks on here. I love the Magic. It's the best vacation because there is something for everyone. Our first DCL trip was in 2006 and I booked it without telling my DH. He was sooooo not into it, however he ended up loving it!

We have done Palo and it is fantastic. We did the brunch and the dinner. Both are great.

We live just an hour north of the port, so it's gonna be a wonderfully easy trip for us. :cool1:

This is so exciting!

Rhonda - where near Toronto are you from? WE have traveled to Toronto quite often for Physiotherapy for my 5 year old.. In fact one of my closest friends lives there. I have to say , there are some great ice cream/ gelato places there for sure!

I bought my girls some great sun dresses from Kohls.com for the cruise. The sale was unreal...

I just can't wait!

I'm happy to hear about all these DH's who ended up loving the Disney cruise experience. My DH is all about family time and fun stuff so I do think he'll love it more than he thinks. I know he ended up enjoying the WDW vacations we've taken (in fact the second trip with the kids was his own idea).

Jen - I don't like to get into too much detail on public boards, but I'm in a suburb north of the city. I don't get downtown Toronto very often, just once in a while for events/plays. Are you far from Toronto? I'm assuming you were at Sick Kids downtown with your daughter, wonderful hospital. We had to deal with the genenics dept for a little while after my youngest was born due to some of her test results and they were absolutely amazing.

anty30 - I keep hearing about Palo on these boards and from people I know who have cruised Disney. I'm going to book it and not even bother telling dh about the additional cost (he'll be all "if all the food is included then why would we pay extra for a different restaurant?" LOL).

disneycrazy2004 - how exciting you will be there in August! We were last at Disney in Sept 2009 and I am soooo anxious to go back, even though it will be just for the day during the cruise. My youngest was only 1.5 years old on the last trip (and I was pregnant with her the trip before that). So I want to do Magic Kingdom on our day at disney and make it fun for her since my older 2 already have a couple of trips they remember. And I'm not sure when I'll be able to talk dh into yet another Disney trip after this cruise :rolleyes1. We just bought a cottage this summer so that pretty much eats up most of our vacation budget. The cottage was Dh's dream, and we had already booked the cruise so I warned him the cottage would not be bought if it meant cancelling the cruise! So we are still keeping the cruise, but I imagine it will be our last big family vacation for a few years.

Actually we go to Blue Balloon in North York. We live about 6.5 hours from Toronto..

I have added your thread to the cruise meet list :thumbsup2

YAY...we are official! :)

I'm so excited to have somewhere to be excited about something that is still soooo far away, and chat with people who don't think I'm Disney crazy (hopefully LOL!)

My 9 year old informed me we would be at 400 days out soon!!!

I haven't told my kids yet, and it's soooo difficult to keep it a secret. We told them about the 2 WDW trips just as they were booked and we planned together (link chain countdowns, earning dollars to spend at Disney, etc). But I've had a few friends surprise their kids last minute with a trip and I think it would be fun so I'm going to give it a try. We'll see if I'm able to keep my mouth shut about it for another year and a bit LOL!

Plus I want to surprise them in 2 parts. First just tell them we are heading to NYC as we get on the road for the drive. Since we are planning to arrive a day or two before cruise departure they will think NYC is the trip. Then surprise them again on the morning we head to the port! I was going to hold off on telling them about the day at WDW as well but figure that will be difficult since they will be in OC/OL with other kids, I'm sure it will come up. So I'll prob tell them about the day at Magic Kingdom that first night at dinner.

Of course after all that, my kids will be expecting some big surprise each day :lmao: I am planning to bring a few little surprises for them each day in our rooms...new pjs, disney themed activity book, reading book, etc. But I do that a lot on vacation anyways, I like to make it fun and special (okay, the truth is I like to shop :rotfl:)

We are planning a big surprise as well and it is very hard to keep a secret, so may be we can talk about in here.....

Anybody thinking about excursions yet? We definitely want to do Atlantis!

I am torn between Atlantis and Blue Lagoon.... any thoughts on any of those? Definitely have to do the dolphin encounter
