June 23, 2014 Wonder to Alaska

So much planning to do for this. Wondering if anybody is coordinating FE list yet or would you like me to do that? It's so much fun and we've loved doing it on our previous cruises.
5 1/2 months to go!

Magical Clown volunteered to set up the FE, but they may like help

I feel like I am getting closer to vacation. How many people are flying in ahead of time to Vancouver? We will be getting there on Saturday and hopefully we can do some sightseeing on Sunday before the cruise.
What are people planning to do in the different ports?
Anyone going to do the whale watching in Juneau?
Bering deadliest catch?

We arrive in Vancouver mid-afternoon Saturday and hope to do a little sightseeing Saturday & Sunday, though we don't have a clue yet as to what we'll go see. Looking forward to sampling the local restaurants for sure, despite the fact we'll be boarding a cruise ship on Monday, where eating seems to be a primary daily activity. :rotfl2:

We haven't really researched excursions yet, though we hope to do kayaking, hiking, biking, zip-lining, etc. Anything to work off Palo dinners! :yay:

eaten at Palo. Is is really worth the extra money? I feel like we get such good food already that it is hard to justify the extra money

I just booked this cruise for DH and DS17 and myself! We had been saving up DVC points for Hawaii, but that didn't work! Booking the cruise may not have been the best use of points, but it worked this time for us!

This will be the 5th DCL cruise for DH and I, and 4th for DS. So excited!

Have you ever done the Fish Extender before on your cruises?

We have done the FE, on our 5 day Dream cruise a couple years ago. I'm not sure yet if I will get in on this one. I have to give some thought to what I might gift for an Alaska cruise, lol. I did beachy and pirate stuff last time!

We've also done 2 Palo dinners and a brunch! All of them are awesome, and worth the extra money just to have some special adult time. I liked the brunch the best for the simple reason I didn't have to worry about what dining rotation I was going to get, and if I would miss that "special" dinner I really wanted to have in the MDR. LOL:rolleyes1

While the food is undeniably good at the rotational restaurants, I believe Palo is a step up, and as mentioned by others, grants you a brief reprieve from the kids, love them as we may.

While I don't believe it's any cheaper, if you have only one meal at Palo, brunch may be the better option since it allows you the opportunity to sample many different dishes. Food for thought. :rotfl:

I created a Facebook group in case anyone is interested. Just search for Disney Wonder June 23 2014.
Only 5 months to go!

We have booked two cabins -- two adults and two kids in each cabin. Kids' ages are 13, 11, 5 and 4.

This is our second Disney Cruise -- went to the Med in 2011. It is also the kids' first time in Alaska, although DH and I went with Holland American about 20 years ago. We had lousy weather the whole time back then. Hoping for a completely different experience this time. :)

We would love to be included in the Fish Extenders. We did it last time, and the kids had a blast!

We will be going on the Wonder for our first cruise and SO excited that it is to Alaska. I have 6 states left to visit to say I have been to all 50 and I can't think of a better way to see Alaska than aboard a Disney ship! My DD, age 8, and I are super excited. Her birthday is June 26th, so she will be celebrating in style as she turns 9! We are Texans and will meet up with our friends from California for the cruise so that will make it even more special (also a mom and her DD8).

We haven't decided on FE and port excursions yet. I have read about FE and am wondering what this group is planning&one gift per day or one for the week?

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I have seen various pictures and videos of the Alaskan cruises done by Disney. We did an Alaskan cruise on Carnival a few years ago, and it was amazing. Our very first cruise was a 7 day Disney Cruise in the Caribbean. It was an amazing time, and we still talk about how it is still one of our most memorable cruises. We have decided to go on another Disney Cruise this year, and I have thought about going back to Alaska. We loved Alaska, and we loved the Disney cruise line, so we have considered returning to Alaska on a Disney ship. We haven't made a final decision on the final location yet.

Greetings, fellow cruisers!

My husband and I will be joining you on this cruise. Additionally, his sister and mother will be along too, in their own stateroom. I'm trying to get my 19-year-old son to come with us, but we'll see if that happens. Perhaps learning that there will be a couple of gals and guys his age will change his mind. :)

We've done two Bahamian cruises on the Dream and we were fortunate enough to visit Alaska last summer. But cruising and Alaska together - we've never done!

We're really looking forward to this - as I'm sure all of you are.

Hello All,

Feels like we are joining a bit late. We booked a placeholder cruise back in June 2012 while on the Dream for a 5 day double dip as Castaway Cay and moved it to this Alaska cruise soon after the 2014 dates became available. This will be our 3rd Disney cruise. We also cruised on the Magic out of Galveston Spring Break 2013. I hosted the FB group for the Magic cruise but I see someone here already started one for this cruise...So I'll be joining that group today! We are from Austin, TX and it'll be me, DW, DD(12), and DD(10). The girls are home from school today due to a misting of ice on the roads. This is Texas where everything stops if a snow flake is seen anywhere! So I've tasked my DD12 to read this thread today to get us all caught up with all the happenings for our next cruise.

Also - an idea we learned on our first cruise was to start an email thread for kids to get to know each other a bit since most don't have FB accounts (neither of mine have FB accounts). Email tends to be a little easier to monitor. I will post more details in the FB group but we would want it open to those that don't join the FB group also. So if you have kids and want to include them send me a PM and I will start a kids email thread. (Please forgive me if this has been done. I have not read the entire thread yet - again thats assigned to DD during her "snow day" today.

Regards,
Alan
