June 2024 WISH Thread- Jumping into SUMMER ☀️🍉🕶️

This evening I'm going to a Full Moon Yoga session, and tomorrow morning I'm going to a historical walk along a section of beach in a neighboring town. Sunday will be my stay-at-home day, unless I go see InsideOut 2 which I didn't see last weekend (Wildcat was so phenomenal I needed to sit with it for a while).

I have a few garden chores to take care of, and as always lots of household things to do as well. I really need to get serious about having someone come to clean for me on a regular basis, because I keep getting behind. I'm working on (another) deep clear out of stuff and after that I think I'll book a housekeeper.

Happy Friday everyone.

I've always been tempted to get a housekeeper too, but have never pulled the trigger!

We are going to see Bikeriders tonight - nothing else in our area that really appealed to me that we haven't already seen. Tomorrow we are going to the Cardinals game though! Pretty excited to go, it's a day game and it's supposed to be between 93° and 96° during the game :sunny: - but they have a great giveaway tomorrow and I really want to get, so I'll endure it lol!

I'm sure Saturday night will be spend soaking up the a/c!

Happy Friday!!! Sounds like most of us are having a hot one!!!

My weekend kicked off early last night with some pool time with my dear daughter in law who is 7 months pregnant and very very hot. She came over right after work and stayed a few
hours after I got off and we floated in the little blue pool I put up on the patio. She said her body has not felt that good in weeks!

Today my niece came early and I took her to play with my other nieces and nephews for a bit then we swam in our little pool for a while.

Tomorrow morning we will walk dogs 🥵🔥 then spend the rest of the day in the ac or pool!

Sunday we go to first service at church then I do the nursery for 2nd service. Sunday night kicks off VBS for the week! We are expecting over 100 kids so it will be a busy week for sure! My oldest niece and nephews are coming with me so it should be fun.

Oh and we are dog sitting one of our previous fosters this weekend!!! Excited to spend time with him!

On the way the the historic beach walk this morning I drove thru farmlands with irrigation sprinklers going and it reminded me that when we were kiddos we would go visit my Mom’s Mom in Eastern Washington each summer. One of her Sisters still lived there, on a farm that grew wheat and alfalfa. Eastern Washington is dry and arid and really felt like summer. Good times.

Don’t have any current traditions but I’m putting together a list of things I want to do this summer, so I get them planned and don’t miss out. On the list is a trip to Victoria BC, going to Crescent Lake and Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Park, doing the whale watching boat again and doing the tour boat in Deception Pass.

Favorite summer foods… local strawberries and in season watermellon.

Summers for me as a kid was long days at my grandparents house swimming in the pool. Taking naps on the floating lounge chair and drinking sasprilla. Great memories too of traveling with my parents to New Hampshire for Santa’s Village and story land, made a point to take pics with the kids in some of the same spots my parents took my picture.
Fast forward 30 some odd years and now my family spends most summer Sundays at my in laws house by the pool. Whoever is around (aunts uncles cousins) are there swimming and cooking and it makes for a long but fun day each week.
Summer time foods…anything grilled.
Dream summer vacation as a kid was Disney. I only got there once as a child so I am happy I have been able to take my kids a couple times and I hope several more trips before they are all in high school/college and are busy.

Yesterday was one of those days that actually felt like a couple days rolled in to one. I started with the historic/nature walk, which was perfection, then I came home and tackled cleaning out the shed, followed by a nap and then out to do a few things in the garden. The evening was spent doing more organization in my crafting armoire and watching old episodes of Great British Bake Off. I'm pretty proud of the progess I've made with the great clear-out.

Today for self-care and reward for being so productive yesterday, I'm headed to the fancy nursery a few towns away to pick up more annuals for a couple new pots I'm putting together for the patio.

I was (still am) a water baby. I grew up across the street from a lake, and my extended family owned a cottage on a beach on Long Island Sound. So between the lake, ocean, and friends’ pools, I was always playing in the water. Childhood memories of watching fireworks at the beach or lake really stand out.

Traditions include vacationing, and being wherever the water is…currently that’s my backyard heated pool. I rarely visit my town beach these days unless it’s off-season.

Favorite summer foods include fruit salad, S’mores, ice cream, steak on the grill, corn on the cob, and my pina colada cake made with vanilla cake, cream of coconut, crushed pineapple, and cool whip.

Cape Cod is my dream summertime vacation.

What is your favorite memory from childhood summers? My grandparents owned a home at the beach and it was where I spent most of my summers my entire childhood.

Are there any summertime traditions your childhood family had, or your current family does? As a child we spend the “Patriotic Summer Holidays” at my grandparents swimming in their pool. The rest of the summer we were all at the beach house. As an adult I host the summer holidays now and we no longer have the beach house but we used to go for a week or a long weekend together to the beach. However this year we won’t be going due to cost and quite honestly I don’t feel comfortable leaving my son and daughter in law so late in her pregnancy.

Any favorite summertime foods?
Ice cream!!!!

I think it would be neat to visit someplace cooler during the summer months-we have never ever done that! Someplace with no humidity maybe?

Self care today is taking a few hours between my normal Sunday church volunteering and the start of VBS tonight to relax. The church looks so so so cute, I can’t wait for tonight.

180 kids are signed up!!!!!!!!

We have cloudy weather today so although my car temperature read 100 degrees at noon it feels so much cooler than the last 5 days when the sun was relentlessly blazing from sunrise to sunset!!!!

Ended up getting the chicken wire up around the garden yesterday before the thunder started so hopefully it will cease to be a bunny buffet.
Today I took the boys to mass late as they did a belated scout Sunday then we grabbed DUNKIN for lunch before going to the zoo for a few hours. We didn’t stay long as it was pretty muggy but it was nice to take a quick trip. Having the membership is so great the kids enjoy it and so do the adults most of the time. Started breaking in a new pair of hiking sandals. The soles and straps around my feet were sssooo comfy but I get a little blister from the ankle strap so I’ll have to put shoe petals in or use a lot of foot glide or other anti-chafe product.
Breaking in shoes and walking in the heat counts as vaca prep right?
I should do my nails and stuff tonight but I am just too tired. I think the couch is calling my name.

Catching up -

Summer memories as a kid - free time spent at the playground, fireflies, swim lessons, trips to visit family, the fair coming to town every August.

Self-care Sunday - not enough 😆 - Yesterday was a fun but very "people-y" day, so I will be catching up on self-care today.

Motivation for this week... after dropping five pounds my first week of better eating I didn't lose anything last week, so I'm motivated to get a couple pounds off this week. That means further tweaking food choices and increasing exercise.

And in my big household clean-out I'm going to do a complete reset in the kitchen hoping it will help to motive me to cook more... fingers crossed it helps.

Catching up after the weekend - I think I posted earlier that we were going to a Cardinals game Saturday. It was super hot (which we expected). After the 2nd inning, I went to go fill our water bottles again and when I got out into the concourse, I had a light-headed episode and actually passed out. I still can't believe it. I felt super odd before it happened, so I went over to one of the standing tabletop areas where you can stand and have a place to put your food to eat it to lean on the table. Next thing I know I wake up on the ground with some super nice young man, holding my head so it wouldn't hit the concrete.

They took me to the first aid area where I called DH. We stayed in there awhile to cool down and then he went to get the car and we just left early. I was super bummed because 1) it was a great game and 2) obviously it stinks to have that happen.

The after effects of it - I apparently fell right on my tailbone, because I have a hard time sitting and then getting up after I've been sitting for awhile. I'm hoping that goes away soon because we leave for a cruise on Friday and will be flying in already uncomfortable seats!

I am going to go to the doctor about this. I definitely have light headed episodes on a somewhat regular basis. Usually I get light headed and my knees start buckling (not sure how else to describe it). But, when I stop and hold on to something, it usually goes away. This time it didn't - I'm guessing because of the heat added into the mix, but I'm really not sure.

I've mentioned it to my doctor before and he kind of dismissed it saying I'm probably standing up to quickly or not giving myself enough time to acclimate after standing. I'm not one to push, so I let it go. I'm not even sure what the issue could be or what to ask him to do, but I'm hoping for some better answers.
