June 2013 rental

We are going 6/8-6/16.
I have a full-size reserved w/ Dollar now for ~$170 total.

What is the process w/ Alamo Insider? Do you go straight to garage Kiosk or wait in line at desk?

I've never used them before. We have always gone to the desk to get out car....no matter what the company and we have used Budget, Thrifty, Hertz and Enterprise.

Never Budget again! Ever

With Alamo, it doesn't matter if you are Insider or not -- you can use the kiosk.

What I generally do is a day or two before my trip, I go back onto the Alamo site and pull up my reservation. There's a section (they used to call it 'Save Time', but I'm not sure if they still do) where you can put in your driver's license, etc. Then when you get to MCO, you can just go right up to the kiosk and finish up. Even if you don't give the additional info earlier, you can still use the kiosk...just more to type in.

I would assume there is no pressure at the kiosk? What if the alamo profile is in my name and the main driver will be mu husband, is this an issue??

There's no "human" pressure at the kiosk. When you access your reservation, there will still be questions about upgrading insurance and other extras. The kiosk used to make taking the extras sort of a default, but they've improved it somewhat. Just be careful answering questions, checking options, etc. It shouldn't matter which one of you operates the kiosk (btw, having one go to the kiosk and other wait for luggage is a good idea), but whoever goes should have the reservation number, credit card and the driver's license number(s) of the driver(s). The actual matchup of the driver with the driver's license on the contract is more important after picking up the car and going to the exit gate.

sounds like this might be a wonderful time to try this out :)

THANK YOU!

I rented with Alamo last year, and I tried using the kiosk but I remember it wanted to charge for the additional driver (me) even though I am an Alamo Insider so I canceled and went to the counter, where I have to say got highly pressured to upgrade the size of my car. Maybe I was doing something wrong though.

I already have a full size so I don't think there will be an up-sized pressure...

So you couldn't add a driver? This is not good :(

It just kept adding a charge for the driver, but I probably didn't do it right. And they added it at the counter no problem. I had a standard reserved (since I would get to choose a full size as they don't have a standard row). We are a family of 5, and our three kids had pretty small suitcases, but the man was telling me (OVER AND OVER) that we were going to be cramped and would probably have to hold luggage on our laps. What a joke. The trunk fit it all with room to spare. I didn't like that at all. BUT, the rest of it was easy, and it was almost midnight, so maybe I was being sensitive. :)

I've been on that flight that gets in at midnight and then you have to travel forever to get to the luggage etc.....its never fun. Its just myself and my husband so we'll see what a craze it is when we get in. We arrive at 1:30pm on a Saturday, it could be hellish!:headache:

Maybe someone will chime in if they've had the same experience with the kiosk. I would much rather deal with that when we get in at that same time again. There wasn't a line at that time though so that's a bonus! Hopefully it won't be too bad for you at 1:30PM. :)

At the end of the day, for $145 for an 8 day rental of a full sized in Orlando, I think I can deal with the line if I have to :)

When the price came back down again yesterday, I quick and made profile for my husband as an insider and put the car in his name. He does the bulk (if not all) of the driving anyway, so now there is no worries.

The price went up about $186 to about $331 today, thank god I was able to lock it in. With AAA discount Thrifty is at about $161. I will watch this till about 36 hours before we leave to insure we get the best rates. I am sick, I know it!

I am too, lol. :)

I just used Alamo rental code AD2338FDF. You have to pay with a Visa card and got a rental 06/08/13 pick up at 1:30pm and drop off on 06/15/13 ago 7pm, making it an 8 day rental. The total came to $129.34 for a FULL SIZED car. Good luck bargain hunters.
